Butch says it takes 6 to 7 years to build a program in the SEC

I wonder if he is developing NFL stars or is he just trying to win games.

Take Caliperry at KY, he said that the number of players going to the NBA was more important to him, than a NC. I know KY, fans, and that is not how the fans feel. They would rather cheat and win, that's why they hired him.

I'm not asking him to develop NFL talent, I question the staffs ability to develop SEC talent at certain positions, you know the league we actually play in.

Here's my opinion - not that you guys give a hokey crap - If McElwain (Florida) had a few players from UT's O-Line, Hurd and 2 of UT's receivers, they would win it all this year.

:) Ha! No kidding? We DO have those guys and SHOULD be undefeated!

Would you consider 2 nine win seasons before reverting back to losing ways "building a program"?

They didn't revert until the coach left. Franklin did a nice job there and beat Tennessee twice which is still hard to believe

I think it was the NFL QB that made the difference, along with the whole SEC east was down. That is Vandy, a path, not the destination. You would think by now they could have created their own coach.

Someone that would look at Vandy as a "Dream Job". (Is blue font needed)
What nfl qb are you talking about during the James Franklin years?

No, I just refuse to lower my expectations.

So every year we don't win a NC is a failure? You support Butch but say Harbaugh failed because he didn't win a title at a school who cares more about water polo than football. 12-1 and a BCS bowl is better than anything we've sniffed in 15 years.

My bad, I though Vandy's QB, had NFL pedigree. Who was their QB?

I may have been going back to Cutler, all these losses run together as a nightmare on a loop.

Cutler left in 2004 if I'm not mistaken. The fact that we have no clue who the qb was kinda supports James franklins case for being a great coach

More reality. That really scares the hell outa you doesn't it. LOL

No. I actually feel more confident every time you disagree with me or reference your superior "logic" or claim to have a grasp on reality.

I've been here a long time... and you are actually one of the more amusingly deluded posters I can remember.

Yes, to not win the NC, is a failure. It's even harder to do so in the SEC. I still think Butch can get it done, I hope I'm right. Could Harbaugh? Maybe. He couldn't go undefeated out west, how could I know he could here. I like our chances with Butch, is that so wrong?

What? You say so much that makes, a lot of sense, but no, the NC is the prize, SEC is just the path.

Just speaking for myself. UT could finish 12-1 and win the SEC but be shut out of the playoff. No one can stop them from playing their way to the SEC Championship.

I have confidence in the SEC Championship's value as a measure of who is the best. I have much less in any system the NCAA has ever used. There can be and probably are teams that could stake a legitimate claim to being the best team at the end of the year who are excluded from the playoff.

I would like to see the Power 5 conferences merge into 4 super conferences with 16 teams each. Each conference could be divided into 4 divisions. The winners of the divisions could play two rounds to crown a conference champ. The 4 conference champs could then play for the NC. No more BS. Let it be won on the field like the SEC is.

Length of service, does not always = quality of service.

You don't have to go undefeated to win it; in fact few have in the last 10 years. I will gladly take a 12-1 season with a Big 6 bowl win and call it one hell of a season.

I know we are on a vols message board but would it really hurt to give the coach from another team credit where it's due. To act like harbaugh doesnt get the job done is ridiculous. Even belittling what the Florida coach has done in in his first year there is just stupid

I would go to 6 power conf., 12 per conf. have a championship for each conf. The 6 winners would compete in an 8 team playoff, leaving room for two at large.

My bad, I enjoyed his play for the Colts, more so than anything he could do as a coach. But sure ,he is a good coach, and might be another Bo.
