But had he played past the first quarter( or third or whatever the criteria is) of the season to still qualify as a RS?

I would guess the staff planned on using him in garbage time in these last few games, and probably a lot in the North Texas game since that one should be out of hand fairly quickly if we take care of business.

Between that, which was beyond ridiculous, and the Duke/Miami fiasco we have a highlight reel of stupid.

Speaking of which, all of that mess the officials got themselves into by not calling 3 penalties that were and calling one that wasn't before picking it up - could have been avoided by simply calling the first guy with the ball down when he was down. smh.

That game and our call are similar. You should not get calls wrong using a replay system, plain and simple. Everyone could see both of these calls were wrong on the replays. They should put in an appeal system for targeting suspensions after the Mosely call. I know they can't change it this week but at the end of the year they should.

I can't see Saban as an AD anywhere. This guy talks down to everyone. That's not a good trait for an AD. I would bet the farm this never happens.

Most people would bet the farm that Alabama would never hire a former Tennessee head football coach either to be their AD either.....and than walks in Bill Battle.
HA

You're probably right. I bet the RS plan was in place prior to Shy getting hurt, if there was ever such a plan.

HA

Bill Battle played football at Alabama and was a close friend/roommate of the former AD Mal Moore. Battle is a class act and is basically an interim AD until a "permanent" AD is hired. Battle being terminated at Tennessee had a lot to do with fan discontent over his teams' inability to defeat his alma mater.

Unless I was seeing things, he was out there on the last defensive drive. Seems like an odd place to burn a red shirt.

I probably missed him. Coaches were planning on RSing him earlier in the season. Not sure why that changed. Seems like it would've been better to keep the RS than play him in garbage time. But I'm sure they have a plan.

How many passes has he completed that are down the field throws? I can only remember one other one he's completed this year, which was to Preston in the end zone. Granted, our WR's have only recently showed up in the last few games so he's also finally getting help from them. I'm not bashing JD, but his down the field accuracy is not as good as we'd like it to be and sometimes he doesn't get enough time to look downfield before he needs to escape. But yeah, until he shows more consistency in throwing the deep ball I'll call it lucky. People can disagree all they like, doesn't bother me. I'm just stating my opinion here

What most people don't seem to realize is that it takes time for the receivers to get down field. In the first few games, the defense would almost get to Dobbs before the ball did. If they don't have time to get there, who is he supposed to throw it to?

No one is saying that he's the second coming of Dan Marino. But, now that the line is giving him more than 1.5 seconds of protection, I bet you'll start seeing some longer throws.

Ironically, we'd be ready to name a street after Bill Battle today. His record at UT was 59-22 (.723). He never had a losing season and took UT to 5 major bowl games in 7 years, netting 4 bowl wins, including a Sugar Bowl W (.800 overall bowl %). And he did it all with class.

This site should not be confusing to me.

It's either sunshiny, Butch-for-president optimism or utter angst and doom-and-gloom negativity. There's never an in-between, even though the in-between typically ends up being closer to the eventual truth.
.

Trust yourself...look at the slimmed down version of your post and you will find the Truth and Reality of VN. Kinda like The Force :)

Most people wouldn't bet that Tennessee would hire a former bama player to be the head football coach...same guy btw (Coach Bill Battle)
:)

I remember someone posting that and I watched the replay and didn't see Picou. Pretty sure he was supposed to RS, so I'd be curious what changed.

The radio call had him in but it was in a list of massive substitutions and they may have got it wrong.

All true....but he also did it all with Doug Dickey's players.....:salute:

It wouldn't surprise me if Beliema is shopping himself behind the scenes for some of the jobs available.

If UGA was to let Richt go they better make a big splash. Bad timing for them with that class they loading up. That is why I think Richt stays one more year to get this class in. Pruitt is overrated and being exposed Without coaching an entire defense of 1st and 2nd rd picks

15M buyout, he's not going anywhere.

Ya, he's really good on pulls. He had his hands full with that huge nose tackle this week. Couldn't move him out of the way as easily.

I use to be a member of the Crowder 5, but was able to get out. My identity is being protected by the government so my former brothers don't harm me for saying I was wrong about Coleman being our best center.... Mack ain't trash, but he can't pull like Coleman does.

Lol. Love that term I coined has had such staying power here on VN. Never would have thought it would catch...

Of course when I penned it, it was "Crowder Five"

Thanks for the inspiration to EZ, and those guys roaming Knoxville looking for him...

:)
