Signature Win - Over UGA?

Bump because if nothing else this beatdown by Florida should at least prove my point that I was trying to make after how everyone went batcrap crazy after the UGA win. They aren't a good team.

GA was a good team when we played them. AL put the lid on the coffin, we just nailed it down.

Seasons change for teams.... An injury here or there.... A crushing loss...inner turmoil and etc.

It happens.... Get over it negabeaches

Lol... Georgia is not terrible. The fact is that Alabama is the best team in the SEC and then you can throw a blanket over just about the next 7 or 8 teams.

And the injury thing is just a fact of life. I can think of about 3 key injuries that would change our team if we had them back.

Georgia has scored 1 TD, collectively, in three of the last four games, only being able to score against the Vols. They're terrible, as noted a couple of weeks ago.

So that's the new narrative? Was Arkansas also a good team when we played them?

What does GA have to do with AR? AR was not good when we played them. They out right beat us because we did not play well enough to win.

All those saying UGA wasn't a signature win are the same ones saying "your record against UGA bama and FL" are the most important games for UT coaches. If you're willing to say UGA wasn't a signature win this season, then don't tell us younger fans that coaches performances against UGA are some of the most important in their tenure.

UGA’s wins:

Louisiana Monroe (1-4) - lone win over Nicholls State (0-5)

Vandy (2-3) - wins over Austin Peay (0-6) and MTSU (2-4)

South Carolina (2-4) - wins over North Carolina (4-1) - UNC’s wins are over North Carolina A&T, Illinois, Delaware, and Georgia Tech and Central Florida (0-6)

Southern University (3-2) - wins over Mississippi Valley State (0-6), Jackson State (1-4), and Alabama State (2-4)

So to digest. The opponents Georgia beat has a combined record of 8-13. The opponents of the opponents that UGA has beaten has a combined record of 9-36

Please continue to tell me how this was Butch’s signature win. He beat a team that lost their top player the first play of the game and has a QB who couldn’t cut it at Virginia. And a team that won’t be in the top 25 come poll time.

Look, this takes nothing away from the players effort in the game. Dobbs is a warrior. But to tell me that Butch "got it done" is a stretch. UGA was overrated it seems. Stats don't lie. But I'm sure just by me posting this some people will automatically think I'm a NegaVol.

There's a big difference IMO between being a fan of the team and players and worshipping the coaches. I don't ever think Butch gets more than 9 regular season wins at UT and IMO that's just not good enough. I'm glad they beat UGA and with Bama's issues on offense they very well could give Bama a game this year. Missouri sucks and South Carolina has checked out. It's probably a good year for TN to turn the corner and look pretty decent when all is said and done.

I just have a problem with people saying that this is a top 10 win in program history. It was one of the best come from behind wins I can remember but we beat a team that isn't all that great it seems. Anytime we beat UGA is a good day. Realistically we should be 5-1 now - Arkansas handled us fair and square. But we should have wins over Florida and Oklahoma - who also showed they may just be mediocre at best this year once again. TCU and Baylor will destroy them.

Flame away - I've got pretty thick skin.

The alternative to beating a top 25 ranked UGA was to lose to a top 25 ranked UGA. Is that what you would have preferred?

Or maybe Florida, Bama and UT are better teams than you give them credit for?

UGA squeaked by Missouri - barely. And Missouri is God awful this year. They lost to Vandy for God sakes. UGA is by no means good. Their own fans are even admitting it now.

Their wheels have come off and they're quitting on Richt..... To say they're not talented is incorrect..... To say they're soft is accurate

talent < > a good team (any UT fan should know that by now)

UGA is not a true quality win this year nor is it a "signature" win in the Butch era.

Or they are the ones saying your can't count a top 10 South Carolina win in 13 because well, their South Carolina.

Whatever..... They still came back from 21 down to win.... It was a huge confidence and character builder.

That is truly the impressive part.
Had we overcame 21 <fluke points :)> to Western Carolina, I would agree with the haters here.
But to do it against a team filled with talent, having a good year or not, was impressive.

But if I were you, I wouldn't worry if they agree or not.
If they were truly allowed to discount games, we would be 0-4 right now.

Get over yourself. It doesn't matter how bad they are, after the last 6 years I'm excited as heck UT is better than them.

Oh it was a W alright. That can't be disputed. Coming back from 21 down was impressive. Being down by 21 to a horrendous UGA team is more impressive and most baffling.

For a select few
Signature win cannot ever be accomplished..... because if UT beats someone they will say well if UT can beat them it can't be a Signature win....Just wait when we beat Bama they will be some on here that will say yeah but that was one of the worst Bama teams in the Saban era or something to that effect, just hide and watch...:loco:

I was at the game bub.

Well Bub..... Then you saw a 90 plus yard fumble return for a TD ..... Very flukish.... Then a punt return TD aided by a block in the back that helped build the lead.... This in spite of the Vols out playing GA from the opening whistle..... But you were there....bub

Yep. Saw all of those. The fumble return for a TD was not a "fluke". It was a good defensive play where they blatantly stripped the ball from Hurd, recovered the fumble and advanced it as they were coached to do. Just because it so happened to take place on their own 1 yard line doesn't make it "fluke". If the same play happened on our side of the field it wouldn't have even been suggested as "fluke".

At any rate, be proud that we beat the cupcakes we are supposed to beat and think we're some "improved" team if it makes you feel better.

As for this year, even if we go 8-4 vs the bottom feeders on our schedule he has done nothing to garner any praise and certainly no contract extension.

Living here I will take a year of not hearing the smack from the leg humper fans. My kids are ecstatic as well. The Georgia win is less impressive looking at how they have played since.

Ditto.

I love that my son wears his Manning jersey to school, and fools on the playground have nothing to say.
