VERY well coached game

Execution still wasn't great at times but they only went conservative a few times. They let Dobbs throw himself into a rhythm.

There were still some execution issues which is to be expected. But I thought the game day coaching today was very, very good.

Now THAT aggressive mental approach from the coaches is what was needed in the 3 losses.

Hopefully, Jones will think about it and realize that he should stay aggressive with a lead.

I have criticized when it was bad... but the staff was on mark today.
Yeppers!

This team needs more players.. I think Butch can still recruit if he keeps being aggressive on play calling.

No one wants to "play not to lose."

Respectfully disagree.....

Still MANY poor play calls that defy any reasoning....
Defensively--JANCEK and MARTINEZ do need to go....those two UGA rejects--esp. Jancek....ALMOST allowed UGA to march 99 yds to tie the game....

Although we did roll the dice and throw some balls down the middle and went for it on two 4th down calls--when BEHIND by 21....with nothing to lose....

We completely went vaginal when it was 4th and 1/2 yd on our last drive with a 240lb BEAST of a RB.....it's that kind of CRAP that convinces me that these guys are still coaching scared instead of confident....And--offensively--just TOO MANY passes into the short side of the field--and ONE almost got HURD's knees destroyed....

Just think a minute--if 81 catches that sure TD--would you still have made your post?

Ultimately--sitting at 3-3 when we honestly should be 6-0 is HARDLY REASON to compliment our coaching staff...

either way--GLAD the PLAYERS played their hearts out and WILLED themselves to win this game...GO VOLS! :salute:

I'm no fan as of late of Butch or his staff. I did see more creativity that led to more explosive plays on offense today though. I'm still not sold on anyone on this staff coming off a stoppage. That TD to begin the 4th was horrible.
The shotgun handoff on the half yard line is a call I would question as well.
I was happy to see Butch accept the penalties today!
On another note the refs today sucked.
Go Vols!

Well, give the coaches and players credit for a much improved passing game, which went from being crap to our strength in this game. Great comeback.

My negative? I've said it: Butch has a knack for making weak, dumb decisions with the game on the line. Punting the ball, and thinking that our defense would hold georgia, was stupid. We didn't hold them, and we wouldn't have held them: we got lucky on the punt and the fact that georgia had used 1 or 2 timeouts already. Another 10 or 15 seconds and they would have been in the end zone. When you are one play away from winning, you have to take it and make it. We narrowly avoided yet another choke.

Ok, now i'll drink a beer.

So Happy your dumb ass isn't the coach. In that situation, you always punt. Coach played it well and the defense did what was needed to win. Go Vols

I've been as harsh as possible to Jones up until today but I can't believe I'm reading people saying we should've gone for it on that last drive. Geesh our fan base is the most football illiterate fan base out there.

For the people saying we should have gone for it on 4th and inches, I honestly think we handled that very well. We lined up and did a hard count, then moved guys around, and another hard count. My guess is Dobbs has the right to run a play there if he sees the right read, judging from the movement it looked like they want to set up a counter to Herd but the Linebacker stepped up to the line so we took the timeout and punted. Butch trusts his defense to win the game for us, and they did tonight.

My only wish is that they practice under center more. The third down play should've been under center

Think I've been saying that they (the coaches) need to call a game like they called the last 2 Georgia game (they'd win more) and guess what they called and played all out. Was great to watch. They didn't sit back on that last drive and sit in zone and make the tackle. They brought the house on a few of the passes..

This. You and I are like-minded about this staff. While I have not yet changed my mind about that (I still think there are changes that need to be made), I also acknowledge that today...for the first time in a long time...this staff played to win.

And look what happened.

Bearing in mind that there is never a game where a team, or player, doesn't make a mistake...the fact is that losing Chubb changed the game for UGA...and if Reggie Davis catches that ball, we probably go to OT.

But it was a win, it was a gutty win, and the coaching staff showed signs of life. I'll take it.

There's a lesson there. What remains to be seen is if CBJ and his staff got it. If so, then maybe CBJ has turned a corner. If not, then he'll have no one but himself to blame when he leaves UT. Today, Team 119 showed him what it takes to win.

Go Vols.

Uhhh...you saw the wide open WR drop the ball, right?

Right on but 2nd and 3rd were conservative calls with Dobbs running up middle both times. Staff is still showing signs of trying to sit on lead and rely on defense in final minutes. Thankfully it barely worked out this time.
You HAVE to keep the clock running there, and after a big gain on first down Dobbs has a good shot of picking up the remainder with 2 runs. There is no way I risk throwing the ball there with a QB that is wildly inconsistent throwing the ball.

When they get out of Josh's head, he can wheel and deal much better... I hope that Debord finally sees that.

A decent portion of this fanbase would go for it on every 4th and 5 or less anywhere near midfield or better, regardless of the situation.
