VERY well coached game

Much better coaching job. Some players really stepped up and some didn't. It was only one game though. We'll see if they build upon it and continue to improve.

By the way, we shouldn't overlook their pretty good running back was injured early in the game. That had to have hampered their offense and affected their gameplan.

NEXT!

You have to keep the clock running there. As well as Dobbs played, I don't know that you can risk stopping the clock with an incompletion given his inconsistency throwing the ball.

I can respect that but I was just thinking Hurd or Kamara should have gotten a shot at getting a first down.

What about the play of josh Malone??? Man it's been a long time coming. This kids got talent and playmaker written all over him. Hell yeah I'm pumped over this win GBFO 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊

Your point? I also saw the defense do a good job protecting the sidelines and defend the pass very well on the last play of the game. After so many bad luck bounces I've seen over the years I will take a guy dropping a pass and not complain.

My point being that it could have / probably should have been a tie game, leading to OT.

If we go for it on 4th and short, and don't make it...OT at worst. If we make it, game over.

It was a great win. Team played their a** off. But there were still too many calls by this staff, especially early in the game, that make me wonder if they truly understand the concept of "coaching to win the game".

The players showed what they can do when you turn them loose. The coaches have already proved what happens when they don't.

6 games left. I'll hang up and watch.

Good point, dude played with some confidence today.

Oh....our secondary is a liability. No hiding it. Have to coach to keep them from having to make a play, which means coaching to keep our "D" on the sideline, or a 10 point lead late. Way late.

Yep I listen to everything you have to say .

Good for you.... a weak person doesn't like to hear what they don't want to face... Thanks for the confession.

Silliness. Not Sure what calls you are referring to early in the game, because we marched up and down the field. Calls don't cause dropped passes or poor throws. Did we dip in the well a time too many on a few plays, sure we did, but you can make that argument against almost any staff in almost any game. Punting was clearly the right call, this isn't Madden. You can make arguments against play calling in previous games, but overall this game was called very well on offense.

Coaching looks a lot better when players make plays. Had they lost, we'd be griping about playcalling. However Dobbs turned it on and the defense played better (14 of 31 points weren't on them) and UT overcame early mistakes and officiating.

Great coaching but notice how we praise them with the team makes stinking plays!

My gosh will this stop. Lets blame the coaches for Hurds fumble score. Lets blame the coaches for the punt return score that should have been called back. Lets blame the coaches for the dropped EASY INT.

How about you admit that despite coaching flaws, the players FINALLY made the plays to win? Early on they were giving it away.

Our DBs once again killed us... horrible. P Willy is good but has killed us two weeks straight... has a lot of developing to do ... will be very good, but has cost us some points and first downs.... sorry, just a taste of reality amidst all the euphoria.... I am praying the poster claiming to know Tuttle's injury status being out for the year is BS. We MUST have him to continue the ride against Bama, KY, MIZZ, Vandy, SC, and NT... the fact that he was able to walk off the field tells me he might be out a couple of weeks max. Did Big Charles get any snaps tonight?

I missed the entire game; traveling up from Florida after our honeymoon. Can't believe how awesome it is to check in and see that we won!

Very bad planning on your part. Next week is the off week. You couldn't have planned your wedding to coincide?

Our 240 pound beast was stopped for a loss on multiple occasions tonight, you act as iF there is no chance we get stuffed. As for your comments on complimenting the staff, the OP was referring to this game, so the previous losses have no relevance in regards to this thread.

okay....does WINNING this game = being WELL-COACHED?????
My answer is a resounding NO...I'm absolutely THRILLED THAT WE WON!! But just what did we do differently to earn that victory?? SJT says that our coaches performed well during this game....I respectfully disagreed....and STILL DO...

We got behind by 21 points....and in desperation HAD to throw the ball down the field to convert 4th downs...BUT HOW did we change after that?? We didn't--and almost allowed UGA to drive 99 yards to tie the game....

As for me "...acting as if there is no chance we get stuffed..." No....I NEVER said that....but I will always take my chances with HURD getting us 1/2 yard on 4th down when the alternative is putting our Defense back on the field in the hopes that they can do ANYTHING to preserve a WIN....especially with our DBs....

And--for the record--without an extremely LUCKY bounce....UGA would've started on their 20 yd line....and would probably have tied it up....and they ALMOST did so anyway...

I'd rather have 1 play to make 1/2 yard to WIN the game instead of trusting our D....and this is only 1 game out of 4 when trusting our D to preserve a win has worked....

You and the OP say that = being well-coached....

I say that kind of thinking is

GO VOLS! :salute:

I agree for the most part, and am very thankful for the win (especially for the players), but I would still question a couple of critical calls...

  1. Every TN fan, every GA fan, every GA coach, and apparently every GA player knew that Dobbs was going to hand the ball off to Hurd when it was first and goal from the one. We should absolutely have had Dobbs under center at that point and just let him sneak it 3 times if necessary. It is one of the most difficult plays for the defense to stop. Why we chose to hand the ball off 4 yards behind the line of scrimmage is a mystery to me. If they haven't been practicing short yardage situations with Dobbs under center then I think it's time they start.
  2. On the 4th and inches play at the end of the game I would have absolutely gone for it, though I also understand the rationale to punt. However, imo given what we have seen from our defense in earlier games in trying to close out a win (and being unsuccessful), I think it was time to put the game in the hands of the offense... and quite honestly I think the percentages would play out more in our favor. We gain 6 inches the game is over. If not, GA still has to go 50+ yards to win the game.

During the offensive series in trying to get GA to jump, as the play clock was winding down, I would have also had practiced a play to have our center either give a slight "head bob" or slightly move the ball on a hard count by Dobbs. It was apparent that GA was not going to jump, so this might have been enough to entice them. Best case they jump, the refs don't notice the slight movement, and the ball game is over. Worst case is that if the Refs call us for a penalty it only backs us up meaningless yards relative to punting.

Offense play calling was alot better in 2nd half.

We need to eliminate side line passes and throw to the middle

Cut down sweeps to Hurd

Be aggressive on both sides
