Ukraine II: The Fight Against Russian Aggression

The point being, regardless of conscription or volunteer, the soldiers have no choice in the dumb decisions their CIC makes..

again comparing the Russian situation to the American one is not apples to apples in Prof's original post. the conscripts are supposed to be a defensive force, used within the country of Russia. this is clearly not what is happening. When you sign up in America you can end up everywhere, and that is known. so yes they still don't have a choice but they know this. the russians are lied to about what they are getting into it. thus the "screwed" part of Prof's post.

And our guys were told the truth about what they were dying for?

Ok...lol

moving goal posts much? are you concerned about where they are going, who they are fighting or why they are fighting? You have changed your stance multiple times, and each time i deal with one of your questions you ask another and claim victory because my previous answer did not foresee your next question.

would you like me to respond to this one, or your next post?

but to go ahead and semi-answer this, I don't think they are told anything about what they are dying for. so it might be a lie of omission. but honestly the ones to actually be telling them these things likely don't know either. otherwise you have the media making crap up, a president who may not be dealing with correct information, and who knows who else telling them different stuff. So yes, our soldiers more than likely go into battle not knowing the real reason they are there. but again I don't think anyone but the suits in the pentagon might know.

What goal post are being moved? You claim Russia is lying to their troops but refuse to acknowledge our troops were lied to along with the American people. That's exactly why we don't have soldiers dying in Syria right now. Most people see through the lies now of spreading democracy and removing an evil dictator.

Obviously not all though..

did you not read my blurb about the media lying to the troops???? I said our guys don't know why they are there. I was saying our troops know they are going to get sent God knows where, Russian conscripts are not supposed to be sent to God knows where, they are supposed to be sent to Russia. in the links i posted from our two government websites it lays out the differences. then later you asked if I thought the troops knew "what they were fighting for" different from where they are fighting. and I agreed with you, that they don't know why they are fighting, but if they have common sense know they could have to fight all over the world. as to why they have to fight all over the world I suggested a history book, lots of reasons in there. and seeing as how i specified the non-high school version I am sure you could find a history book that would appease your hatred of America.

This is this forums go to play when all else fails. My hatred of America. I don't hate America, just it's foreign policy.

It's hard to respect a government that lies to its people about its intentions of invading another country. It's hard to respect a govt that habitually sends thousands of Americans to die in foreign lands under the guise of spreading democracy. It's hard to respect a govt that breaks international law after law by invading a country without the consent of the UN. It's hard to respect a country that dismisses reports of no wmps in iraq and invaded it anyway. It's hard to respect a govt that destablizes countries with democratically elected officials time after time for monetary gain. And it's hard to respect people that contiually make excuses and cheerlead our despicable actions across the globe...

while its probably not the true intention of invading Iraq, we did install a democracy. Which has failed, spectacularly. that failure I put equal parts on us and equal parts on them. Afghanistan has some form of democracy now, but that is likely held together by our troops as well. again it may not have been THE reason we are there, but we did do it.

as far as the WMDs, Iraq did have some, they were the leftovers they were supposed to have destroyed, after we gave them them in the 70s-80s. so straight up saying they didn't have them is just as misleading as saying they were building nukes.

as far as the UN goes, you are going to have to tell me which? because both Iraq and Afghanistan had/have international participation.

we have messed up, we have messed up hard. but such is the life of the world's one super power who everybody expects to be the peace keeper.

It's like Biggie said: "Mo' money, mo' problems."

On another note, Putin is evidently going to appear on "60 Minutes" this Sunday.

College professors now quote Biggie Smalls. I am old. He was my favorite growing up ..also 2pac all the members of NWA and outkast. Listened to the above plus a lot of Tool, deftones, rage, etc. These days I don't listen to secular music but that was a different time. Some great music came from the 90s IMO.

F all of that.

We are opening ourselves up to be involved in far too many altercations around the globe. At some point, we are going to have to scale back. But esp. planning on a fight with Russia in The Baltics... no gain can come out of that for us. Nothing.

Don't be silly Ras..... The U.S. military has plans and counter plans for altercations with numerous foes. This doesn't mean they're planning to put them into motion. Were you never in the Boy Scouts? Always be prepared

The Boy Scouts still don't allow girls.

Funny there's a thread today in the FF about a good day...and half the posts are quoting Cube. Halfway home and my pager still blowing up...lol. remember my son (14) asking me what was a pager?

I couldn't tell him what I was thinking lol (it was the only way to get booty calls circa 1992) I had a rule as a teen that I wouldn't date girls that had pagers. Said they were sneaky enough without the tech advantage. My how things have changed since pagers and payphones. Used to be that if you didn't have a pager with you then a person was actually UNREACHABLE for a period of time. GO to work all day and not get a single phone call...stay out all night and not call home to check in...life was so different. Now I have spyware and GPS on my son's phone. And he can't even drive yet. Technology isn't all bad after all.

Sported the pager as well. Thought I was 007 with that on my hip. Lol

Amazing how fast and far technology has came in the last 20-25 yrs. I fought my wife over kids having cell phones in middle school because it was such a 180° from the world I grew up in...

But, the boyz n the hood Are always hard

You come talk in that trash and we'll pull your card. Lol

Know in nothing in life but to be legit...but don't quote me boy, I ain't said s#&t!!

Amazing how every white guy my age knows every word to Dre biggie Tupac etc. From the 90s. Those guys made so many millions of dollars. Back when you had to buy the whole album and see if the other tracks were any good when a new album dropped unless one of your buddies already had it. Crazy. I don't even know the names of rap artists these days but I am not at all impressed with what I hear occasionally on the radio or in a store. That goes for all new music really. Man I am getting old. Lol

I hear ya. I'm feeling it for sure. My son actually loves rap music. He's 18 and his passion is making beats...dub step, drop step and rap beats. He's actually pretty talented and I love that he follows his passion even tho I can't really connect with this era of music..

They also now occasionally quote Shakespeare. You are getting old.

Putin/Obama summit upcoming.

This week and the next are international/state visit overload, what with the Pope, Xi, and Putin. (Well, I guess Putin's isn't a state visit, but it will basically end up being the same thing.) I can't remember a span this significant and compelling. Pretty wild and crazy for us international politics guys.
