Why Nashville?

Why take a home game off the schedule to play in Nasvillle? I understand Butch thinks it a good recruiting tool, but is it really? It's not even sold out?

The downside seems significant. Less revenues for one, but mostly a missed opportunity to get our players ready in their home stadium prior to a really important game against OU.

Let's face it. We will have a significant amount of players in the game with very little experience playing in such a high profile game in Neyland. Why wouldn't we want to take advantage of that opportunity?

I realize it isn't the end if the world and is great for our players who are from Nashville. I just think it does more harm than good due to our week 2 opponent.

It is because of the high Tax they pay per ticket to the City of Knoxville. Next year we have 2 neutral fields don't we? Bristol and Charlotte?

I'm with the op on this one. I would like to be going to a game in Neyland this Saturday. It's not like we haven't tried this before (Wyoming '02). It really does nothing for us as far as recruiting and we are already dominating the entire state anyway.

To be honest having home games in places other than Neyland isn't something UT is ever going to do. For starters you have all the game day traditions that we use to recruit that go out the window. Next you lose a huge home field advantage by dropping 30k people in the stands by leaving Neyland. After that think of the season ticket holders, sponsors, and other parties that pay for specific seats or ad placements in the stadium that will be irked to drive 3 or maybe 6 hours to the game all of the sudden. And finally you have to consider that having the game in Nashville significantly decreased the number of students attending due to the time and monetary loss ($50 tickets instead of $10). We aren't Arkansas, we don't need to have multiple stadiums across the state. The Vols have had a home field at the base of the Hill besides the Tennessee river since 1921. It's ridiculous to suggest we throw that away.

well thought out! Now can you say BRISTOL 2016.

That's an event that will receive nationwide attention. There is nothing special about playing Bowling Green in Nashville. No reason to be excited about this at all unless of course you do live in Nashville.

Betting some tickets find their way into some mid state recruits' hands. Just more exposure to the mid state region and besides we didn't give up a home game.

I'm excited about the game.. It's in a good recruiting area in a NFL stadium. It's good for BG fans also..

Loads of people seem concerned over what uniforms we go with (we're Tennessee, there's only four possibilities), but does anybody have a clue what the field design will be, endzones, midfield, etc.?

If the city business owners would like for UT to have had this game in Knoxville. People should stand up and let the city know to back off the entertainment tax they charge UT for having a home game. The city still will generate tax dollars on the addition sales tax and motel lodging. So, look for more games in the future to be played away from Neyland Stadium on what could be lesser crowds........Just my thoughts

UT does not pay the entertainment tax. The fans do. UTAD is a money hog putting out false information.

Great for recruiting. Great for reclaiming middle Tennessee. Great for a lot of media buzz. I see nothing but good coming from this. Very well may set up a better team to play there in the future. I love this.

Now I like the Bristol game even better.

With the Titans playing there on Thursday night, I would doubt it would be anything too elaborate.

Bristol is not exactly a great destination.. More people are likely to make Nashville a weekend

Actually, historically we have played home games in Memphis for many years up until the 1990's. So your post is incorrect.

Bristol is going to be amazing, but that game is a bit different than hosting home games in Memphis or Nashville. For starters we aren't giving up a home game, but rather playing neutral site instead of away. Also we are trying to get to a 160,000 person crowd, which I believe will be a record.

Outside of a the game.. Not much to do and not a lot of great hotels/ restaurants
