UT doesn't operate exactly like the legal system. Student disciplinary board. Plus the Feds are snooping around. And the Tennessean is stirring up ****. And a faction of the "Lady Vols" are putting on the pressure. Cheek is a weak leader. Von's not in the clear just yet, but the Hubbs comments are encouraging.
Whether or not the accusers are in school could be a factor whether or not UT allows the various accused students to be in school or not.
I disagree, completely. There is a criteria for an Interim Suspension. Period. Danger to the Campus Community.
Now if two guys indicted for two counts of aggravated rape aren't a danger to campus regardless of whether the accuser remains...
I'm sorry TGO...going all the way back to the Fulmer era, I don't recall anything remotely like this.
Pearson is being used as a political football and Vince Carilli should have to meet Pearson in the Circle of Life drill and if Von somehow loses they should give him an unconditional release, and if he wins Carilli, sorry if I'm spelling it wrong, should resign.
Sounds completely ridiculous, yeah I know. They should lift the suspension and if they don't I hope they get what they deserve.
I have appreciated the debate this evening from all parties, but time to hit the hay, see yawl tomorrow.
I'm not arguing whether it's right or wrong. I'm saying that that might be why UT is keeping VP off campus but allowing Johnson and Williams to continue taking classes.
However something entirely different could have happened too. We don't know and probably will never know.
All the "cloak and dagger" everybody's out to get poor Von conspiracy theories are getting ridiculous.
UT's position isn't a legal matter. Yet.
They could clear it up, they will say they can't...cowards, hiding behind an act that is supposed to be for the benefit of the students, but they are using it to avoid explaining their actions.
If I am wrong, I'll be here and the medicine I will take.
They also have privacy rules to follow.
We still don't know what VP did that night. The rape kit was negative and the DA is dropping it... but VP may not be totally home free until the statute of limitations is up. Hey lawyers... can charges still be brought later or have the authorities closed it for good?
The only logical answer is there was an act committed by VP after the original incident that caused the "victim" to have real fear on camPus. Perhaps he threatened her or something similar
Now if that or something similar didn't happen then your thinking here is correct but it could have happened which would explain the discrepancy
There's no proof of any CRIMINAL activity. However that doesn't mean there wasn't conduct unbecoming and that's exactly what the university is going to take a long hard look at. People get suspended from school and off of sports teams all the time for doing things that aren't illegal in the eyes of the law. I don't know why so many here are having such a hard time grasping this.
The fact that the school is withholding the ability for him to participate in classes (which is a part of the benefit of his scholarship) when he has been legally cleared of wrong doing is a joke.
I understand the school has code of conduct items that are different from the law, but they threw that argument out the window when they let Williams and AJ participate in classes.
This!!
Why is this so hard to understand... We don't know what he did, if anything but these are the facts.
Kids get kicked out of school for far less serious things than being charged with rape. The question might be why were Johnson and Williams allowed to stay rather than why has VP been denied. Rules change too. Maybe the Johnson and Williams decisions were made and then something changed causing VP to be kept away. Length of time as a student in good standing could be a factor as well. AJ Johnson had been a student for about 4 years, VP for less than one.
On Basilio today, somebody suggested that maybe UT just wants VP to go away and is willing to pay a settlement to make it happen.
A "second chance" implies he did something wrong and there is no PROOF that he did. See that's what you seem to miss...there is no PROOF!!! Ever think maybe SHE got pissed about something, had to much to drink and MADE CRAP UP?????????????? There is such a low burden of proof to FILE CHARGES and there wasn't enough that here. GET OVER YOURSELF. This has been a crap case for too long and we need to move the heck on.
Ther's a million hypotheticals that can be generated and imagined to make sense of the situation.
i think it should be a lot simpler than that.
He's legally cleared. he wasn't found not guilty at a trial, he was found as clean in terms of the law as you can be when accused of a crime.
I'm hoping ericvol's post earlier proves to be true, as his info has been spot on, and this is all a charade to help UT win the PR battle. If it isn't, there's a problem.
What? The school has lost the PR battle, you should have heard Hubbs, Hyams and Wilkerson today and they were being conservative, they could give no explanation.
Not the Knoxville PR battle, the "we are not FSU PR battle." Not saying i agree its the right strategy either... they botched it all the way around.
see his post if you want to know more.
