The meltdown that is happening on the Vandy message boards

SIAP but it's as if vandy is located near some body of water, judging from their helmet designs and adoption of "Anchor Down"

Is there a Franklin Lake or something I don't know about?

They're the commodores. It's a Navy thing. I don't know what Vanderbilt has to do with that though

Saw about him on one of those history channel mini-series about the men who built America. He seemed like a dick and the last part of his life was pretty depressing

The university was one of the two philanthropic donations in his life...so I guess you're right.

According to Wikipedia...

On December 19, 1813, Vanderbilt married his first cousin, Sophia Johnson

What a sick perve.

He had very little to do with it, he was persuaded to make the donation but otherwise didn't have much of a clue about what exactly he was donating it for.

If you go to the Biltmore in Asheville they tell you all about it. And yeah they said he was pretty much a d-bag and one guide even made fun of him having the nickname "Commodore" by saying "Just because you buy a bunch of ships doesn't make you a Commodore" and hinted that he gave himself the nickname.

You would have saved time if you had just used the Google machine instead of writing this post

No, not quite, hoss. It definitely would of took more time to type out my question on google, then take the time to read all of the results. That previous post of mine took all of five seconds to type out. Anyways, isn't what I asked what these threads are here for to begin with? To discuss football, ask questions, etc.?

little bit of an arena league feel with that big ass anchor in the back. They just need to keep the star v logo. Thats the best one.

Mason sounded confident in his press conference today.

I imagine this look will return rather quickly on Sept. 3:

easy to sound like a big shot in the preseason when theres no games being played. He did it last yr but even worse. But yeh, i think you are right. That look will become a mainstay on his face until the end of November.

Out of the gazillions of bath and shower gels out there, Summer’s Eve Bath & Shower Gel was created specifically for your V. Treat this extra-special body part with the one that’s dermatologist-tested for gentleness and comes in fresh scents. Get your loofah ready.

I laughed so damn hard at Summers Eve new commercial - Respect the V - the only thing I could think of was vanderbilt. get your loofah ready.:eek:lol:

per google: Commodore is a naval rank used in many navies that is superior to a navy captain, but below a rear admiral.

Hahaha, yep massive derp on my part

I mean, if Vanderbilt had an actual connection to some sort of naval history, then yeah, they're cool. But they don't, and their connection to anything nautical is really pretty pathetic when you dig into it.

Actually, you know what, never mind. Anchors representing a rich, self important, morally questionable self-titled blowhard is exactly what Vanderbilt should have.

He also bragged about only having read one book in his life (Pilgrim's Progress), and was quotes as saying:

If I had learned education, I would not have had time to learn anything else.

Apparently, Vanderbilt was started as a tax break.

Fyp. Try that acronym out. :)

Here are a few fun facts about Vandy's original benefactor, Cornelius Vanderbilt:

1) He wasn't a commodore, but he did own a shipping company. He encouraged and promoted the use of the term "commodore" to help lease ships to the Union navy during the Civil War.

2) Speaking of the Civil War, the government paid for his ships with government bonds, which were very volatile during the war. He was already well off, but he became a very wealthy man by using insider trading information to illegally manipulate the bond
market during the war, costing taxpayers millions of dollars.

3) Vanderbilt married his first cousin, and they had 13 children. When his first cousin/wife died, he married another cousin who was 45 years younger than him!

Feel free to use these fun facts against all the pompous and entitled Vandy fans who probably don't know that the Vanderbilts were inbred cheaters with no connection to the navy.
