Really good show, disappointed that so many good characters die. The good vs evil has tilted to the evil vs less evil.
At least Tyrion is still alive. For now.
You can count the number of "good" major characters on one hand. I would say Davos, Sam, Jon (up until his stabbing, who knows how he'll be if he comes back), Sansa, and Brienne are pretty morally upstanding characters. Ned was as well. Dany, Tyrion, and Arya favor grey to me.
Tyrion stands for survival. Nothing else. Arya stood for revenge, the Many Faced God (which I find puzzling) changed that a bit. Who knows what happens with her now with her betrayal.
Why is there any thought to Jon coming back?
Everyone forgets Bran.
Because he was skipped this season for his off screen training. He'll come back and (most likely) be one of the most powerful magical people in the show. Thought what I find most interesting is his powers may even come from the opposite god of Melisandre's.
The books haven't gone into anything about him really, or how he's being trained. The show even gave more information about it than anything else (same with the leader of the white walkers in fact.) I'm looking forward to how they do this from here on out honestly
Arya is heading down a very dark path. At this point she's using the most powerful organization of assassins in the world to further her own revenge schemes. She's not really bad, but she's very disturbed.
Regarding Jon, a few reasons:
a. Melisandre left Stannis to die and conveniently arrived back at the Wall just in time for Jon's stabbing. She realized that Stannis wasn't the savior she thought he was. And clearly she sees something special in Jon.
b. Melisandre had previously been to the hideout of the Brotherhood of Banners when Arya was with them, where she talked to the other red priest about his resurrections. So we know that resurrections can and do happen in the universe, usually in association with a red priest.
c. There are too many loose ends concerning Jon for him to die permanently. What is the truth of his parentage? The battle at Hardhome also indicates to me that he has a clear role to play in the upcoming struggle - those epic staredowns with the white walkers, for example. There's also no one left in the Night's Watch that audiences care about with Jon dead and Sam going to Oldtown. And it has to rally around someone or everyone is screwed. Stannis was the only other person in a position of power who cared.
I don't root for her. I find her character boring.
Same here.
I admire that she is going all Abe Lincoln to free the slaves, but her approach is awful. She is making drastic changes and expecting the citizens to just accept it. Her wise and experienced advisors (Barriston, Jorah, etc.) tell her their opinion and she goes against what they say. She isn't funny (like Tyrion), didn't have a huge change in her character (like Jaime, although Dany did change some early on), she isn't an amazing warrior (like the Hound), she isn't extremely cunning (like Littlefinger), she isn't evil (like Joffrey). This just makes her kind of boring. The only thing she had going for her was dragons and they only show up every now and then.
Th only part of her story that interests me is those surrounding her (Tyrion, Jorah, dragons).
I'm finding that most people (me included) seem to like her less as the seasons go on. I think Clarke's acting has gotten worse as well (besides when she speaks in Valyrian).
I have a feeling Dany will grow immensely in the next season, but I agree that she was fairly boring in the recent episodes. I'll bet it was intentional. The writers (obviously) aren't dumb.
