And so much for the attack dogs that serve no purpose

K-9 saves Hancock County deputy from ambush attack

A manhunt is under way after a Hancock County Sheriff's Department deputy was saved by his dog from an ambush attack by three men.

"The three of them were dragging him toward the wooded area, and he was able to break one hand free to activate the button that opens the door and it released Lucas," Bass said.

The dog bit at least one, probably two of the suspects, potentially saving the officer's life.

Why anybody would want to be a cop in todays climate is beyond me.

I know a couple of guys that have gone in to be cops, and they're all just about the kind of person you would expect would flock to a profession where you can easily extort, bully and harass people while being for the most part legally protected. Most entered the force out of necessity because their regular jobs got cut. It offered decent pay and consistent employment that can't be outsourced (yet).

At least the ones I've talked to... none have any interest in serving their community or have had any holistic reasons for wanting to be a cop. These guys were all in the service with me and they all joined for the wrong reasons as well. Cool uniforms, joined to kill some hadjis, etc. Those are the guys that are intolerable in the military and they're equally terrifying given a badge and lowered ROE here in the states.

That's just anecdotal from my end.

Black people in Minneapolis nine times more likely to be arrested for petty crime | US news | The Guardian

"The research comes after one teenager’s encounter with the police was captured on a cellphone in which a police officer in the city is filmed telling him: “Plain and simple: if you **** with me, I’m gonna break your legs before you get a chance to run.”

To protect and to serve

Was that before or after he cruised the local HS looking for gum wrappers for littering?

Now for my anecdotal viewpoint. I've worked with and around thousands of LEO's. I've arrested less than 5. I've been involved in more arrests, sw's, and contacts than I can remember and never saw/witnessed anyone conduct theselves in a less than responsible way.

I've heard of officers stealing, lying, abusing, and doing all sorts of stuff.... All of them were arrested and/or fired and all of them acted alone. They were not well liked by their peers, they were not mourned when fired/arrested, and the arresting officers were thanked.

I made these points to display to you that, while yes, bad cops exist, have existed, and will always exist. The most stringent training, testing, and interviews will not weed out ALL of the bad ones. It's life, it's the human element.

I've also said on here that I'm sure a bulk number of cops are good. They'd have to be, given the sheer number of them there are in the US and the dogpile nature the media has for police abuse.

I'm just saying that, in my immediate experience, the ones that joined were not doing so for (in my opinion) the right reason that would allow them to keep their nose up when dealing with the public.

What does her being white and a model have to do with anything?

Here is a perfect example of how race plays a part in people's perception. This video shows a very distinct and interesting contrast between the behavior of 2 individuals. I would really like to see the comments some of you have about this situation.

How race plays a part in people's perception? How about how playing the race card and acting like a dimwit plays a part in people's perception.

So, what did you think about the video?

A couple of things..... The officer remained calm the entire time..... The black lady was defensive from the start..... Brought race into it.... Cuz she white threatening me..... And then acted foolish.....and started walking away..... With that said I think the cop was quick to arrest and I didn't see the need for 8 cops or however many were on the scene.

I'm a little confused by the arrest because the cop told the white lady he didn't feel a crime had been committed ..... So she must have gotten arrested for being stupid....

I don't know if the police should have been so quick to arrest her based on that, but she's the one who made it racial, and she's pretty much as dumb as a box of rocks.

If that's his reason, he's in trouble.

I thought the cop handled it correctly...maybe a little quick arresting her but I would guess she would have escalated it regardless. If she had just talked to officer investigating then none of that would have happened.

Just curious... what was she getting arrested for?

I'm assuming that she got arrested for not cooperating with the police....I know u don't feel that is justifiable but I disagree.

Had a crime been committed when she she was refusing to give her name?

All she did was walk off and the cop followed behind her and put his hands on someone that he had already said he couldn't arrest because he didn't see that a crime had been committed. So cops can now force you to down to the ground when no crime had been committed?

Interesting...

U heard what u wanted to hear.....they were investigating a potential crime......they interviewed the white woman first and she gave her side of the story....she wanted the black woman arrested and the cop said what they could see so far that their not sure they have enough to arrest anyone.....They then went over to interview the black lady who instead of cooperating and giving her side of the story.....got defensive, wouldn't give info and walked away from the cop trying to investigate while refusing his commands.

And that was justification for the cops to power slam her to the ground? I mean, what was she gonna do... run away from the scene? They could have let her walk away, got her tag number as she was driving off and then arrested her (if needed) later on if they did conclude a crime was committed. Big girl wasn't gonna be going far, regardless. But cops aren't that smart to realize that, I suppose.

Power slam her to the ground? Don't exaggerate to make your point.
