I'm not telling your insurance what to do. If they don't cover you for not wearing a seatbelt, that's fine. But you should still be able to make your own decision.

It causes insurance rates to go up bc more people die or are injured bc they don't wear their seat belts therefore affecting everyone.....I'm not sure I agree with that law but it's made with good intentions.

It was made to collect revenue. If safety were truly a concern, then motorcycles would be illegal.

That's not entirely true.....they want u to drive the safest way possible.......seat belts and now air bags......motorcycles, you have to wear helmets.

Cars are much safer than motorcycles.

Yes but they are not keeping us from doing things we love to do but adding safety protocols to their use....You can bungee chord jump in pigeon but their are safety regulations with their use as well.

Aren't 5 point seat belts illegal?

I'm no expert but from my brief look around the internet.....it seems the use of 5 point seat belts are very unsafe in regular cars due to it holding the neck and head in a fixed position.

They charged him with littering after he was pepper sprayed and spit something from his mouth.

Looks like one person initiating violence against another who was totally non-violent.

I can't tell what the h*ll happened besides he got something sprayed in his face....They claimed he got tazed but it didn't look that way to me. No one even mentions why the cops was there in the first place.

Okay... All I'm saying is that regardless of how you want to attempt to manipulate it, the video shows a LEO turning a non-violent situation violent. What happened prior to the filming and why they were there doesn't change that. For that reason, he should be ashamed of himself.

And I know nothing of the incident but if it is true that they charged him with littering when he spit out his gum, then they're scumbags. Like I said, that may not be true I'm far too tired to look it up.

No it doesn't. No one is forcing insurance companies to cover people who don't wear their seat belt. So it would not cause rates to increase.

Well..... Think about from a liability perspective.....

Sure. If you don't wear your seatbelt, the insurance company isn't liable for your medical bills.

If memory serves me correctly, that clause is already in most insurance agreements.

So why do we need seatbelt laws?

You may want to look through your policy once more..... It's not there. When I say from a liability perspective I'm talking about the injuries you cause another party when at fault in an accident. It doesn't matter if they're wearing their seatbelt or not.
Your health insurance is going to cover your injuries minus whatever small amount of med pay coverage you have on your auto policy.

How isl liability even an issue with seatbelt laws?

You're assuming not wearing a seatbelt results in damage to other people or their property.

How?

This part is what I'm talking about. This is he only thing changed by wearing your seatbelt.

And as I said, this should be up to the company. If they put it in your policy that you're only covered if you're wearing a seatbelt, then so be it.

How?

I never said anything about not wearing a seat belt resulting in greater damage to people, but I do believe it has been proven so. Watch a safety film or something.... I don't crash cars for the highway institute
