Examples? And how exactly are you able to approximate that "everyone" was experiencing the same level of dissatisfaction that you were?

I never said it was an issue for me although it probably would be now that I have children....I am thoughtful of other people and can see why it would make everyone uncomfortable.......same reason I don't walk around naked on the beach lol

Cops are our authority figures? That is downright stupid.

But keep your head down and keep marching.

Do you believe in the rule of law? If so, you should respect those who we empower to uphold it. That Would include law enforcement and judges alike. Otherwise i would submit you don't believe in the rule of law.

Your children's sensibilities are so fragile that they can't handle the sight of a person ingesting a beverage that has less than 4% alcohol by volume? Going to be a rough life for such delicate flowers.

Nazi Germany had rule of law. You'd respect it and the enforcers of it?

I don't blindly hand my respect to anyone. Especially those with too much power.

I don't think it's the drink in the persons hands.....it will be after he has had a few, talking sh$t and acting like an insane a$$hole.

Perhaps that could be handled on a case by case basis? Perhaps a little bit of shaming from a group of fellow beach goers would suffice?

So when u r pulled over...u jump out of your car and run and fight with the cop over his tazer.....I so can't wait for this video.

Who is going to be doing the shaming? i like it the way it is and u will probably change ur mind when u have kids

As long as police view themselves as authorities over civilians, it will be impossible for them to truly respect citizens. They can be nice and forgiving, but it will always be in a way in which they (the officers) are the ones bestowing us citizens with their graciousness. Rather than them doing the same thing out of reverence or love.

So back to this...

I think there are different kinds of respect. Individual and professional. You can respect a profession and yet not respect an individual that happens to be in that profession. Paramedic for example is a profession that I respect the hell out of. Yet, I know more than a few EMTs that are complete horse's backsides. But I don't damn the entire profession based on the actions or attitudes of a few of the members thereof.

And yet, I can respect an individual and not respect their profession. Not disrespect it mind you, but it doesn't garner the immediate respect I might give to something else. Take your profession as an engineer for example. I can respect you as an individual, but don't necessarily believe your profession would or should immediately bring respect in my mind.

Courtesy on the other hand should be assumed both ways in any discourse. Until given a reason not to be of course. But being courteous don't necessarily equal respect. You can be courteous, but not respect the individual or the profession.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Never been to a professional sporting event? Was your experience "ruined"?

Mine was at a college game this past yr......taken my son to his first UT game....two drunken idiots were right behind us....spilled their damn drinks on us....cussing and carrying on like a couple of dumba$$es....yes it did ruin it for us....if my son wasn't there, I would have been going to jail bc I would have hit him.

Perhaps the person whose experience is being "ruined" could use a tactful approach to inform the "ruiner" that their behavior is not ideal for your family to be around. I've dealt with plenty of drunk and non drunk ass wipes this way. Ridiculous cursing at a ball game with my 5 year old nephew. All it took was a polite reminder to the man that my nephew is at an age where they absorb everything like a sponge, and that the words he was using weren't exactly ideal for his development. The man apologized profusely and bought us a hot dog. Nobody was kicked out. No ushers were called. No screaming and fighting. I've used that approach many times and have never had a problem.

Drinking isn't allowed at UT football games. Hmmmmm interesting.
