He is a U.S. Marshall involved in a dangerous police action with a "girl" interjecting herself in the middle of it....she could have gotten herself, the cop, or anyone else killed bc of her stupidity.

So that distinction grants him the right to destroy private property? You do know it's completely legal to film the police right?

I have no problem with her filming the police but u don't get within ten feet yelling while they are trying to do their job.

So words being thrown about is likely to hurt the militarized force there? The point remains, nothing she was doing was illegal (yet)
Should the cop come out of pocket to replace her phone?

Mostly, you don't like the answer because your question was too broad and stupid. Thus, you were unable to get the answer you desired.

I don't need to respect laws written by politicians I don't respect and enforced by buffoons I loathe.

The instances we are seeing lately are because technology has become so cheap and widely available. This is who cops are, not some anomalies.

To end, I don't care what you believe about me.

You're wrong.

And they call my ideas utopian....

Please tell me what places anyone under any moral responsibility to follow the edicts (laws) of the ruling class i.e. Politicians?

I'll help you out, it's called force. "Do as I say or this will happen to you." It's foolish and dangerous at best. Rule of law my backside, it's called the rule of the majority. If evil is legalized, does it make it any less evil?

Checks and balances are good.

So you would have no laws and expect folks to just get along because we are all inherently good?

It all boils down to the definition of the word crime. A crime is injury to a person or property. If there is no victim, how can there be a crime?
Anything else is revenue collection.

It causes a distraction......if she had been where this video had been shot then it wouldn't have been an issue.....if she had gotten shot by a cop or someone trying to do their job then everyone would have been pissed for a different reason....i am getting tired of people trying to antagonize cops for no reason and then whining about it afterwards.

Actually came in here today to bring up the topic of Community Policing again. I realize it isn't the sexy "I hate cops, all cops are crap" vs "all police are angels" debate you guys like, but it is one that I think needs to be looked at more carefully. In my view we've tipped the scales too far to the gun fight at night and could make a lot of progress if we did more community policing during the day. It takes longer to have the affect desired, but that affect lasts longer in my view. The night time activities are still important, but there needs to be some balance.

In this story, a young girl got shot playing on the street on Mother's Day a few years back. My family and I were actually walking one block over when this happened as we were coming home from the Spring Street Fair. Mr. War lives across the street from the shooting and decided to organize the neighborhood to make it safe for everyone, but especially the kids. He is a maintenance guy at the school my wife used to work at and, while a great guy, he isn't highly educated. He just took some actions that needed to be done.

But, when you look at the article you see he still wants more. One of the things he wants to see is more police on the street during the day. Yes, a Black Man is asking for more police presence to enhance the safety of his street. This should mean something to all of us. We need to have positive relationships with our police officers so they can be seen in a positive light and not just someone who will kick in the door in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, we haven't seen any action on the part of our city police department. Last I checked we had two our of over 100 officers doing a neighborhood bike patrol. We are a small city of about 5 square miles, we have over 100 officers in the department and only two do any sort of community policing on a routine basis. There are many on duty during the day and many are in the community, but only two are actually assigned this role. That is out of balance in my view.

Neighbors' work produces York City block to be proud of - York Dispatch

I think this is a good idea in principle, but you have to get the community to buy into the idea first. One or two citizens asking for additional patrol presence, whether on foot or in a vehicle, is just that, one or two. It appears the person in the article you linked has gotten the whole community to buy into the idea. Or at least a significant enough number of residents that can effect change on their own.

The problem comes from both sides. One the incidents from officers that inflame situations. And the other side of that equation is people that continue inflaming the race card with "cops are racist." Even on here people cling to that mantra about "cops shooting brown people." So in order for this to work, both sides have to meet in the middle and work out their differences. I'm not saying it won't work, but take a place like Ferguson (probably not the best example I could use, but it is what it is) where both sides would have to come a long way to get something like this accomplished. And do it without outside interference from people like Al and Jesse and without any further incidents from police.

But the idea of community policing is one that can work. Just depends greatly on your community dynamics.

Your cup of state worship boils over.

Should the cop replace the phone?

Was any of her actions illegal?

Let me ask a tangent question, though related.

Do you think there are times that recording police shouldn't be done? Such as graphic situations or crime scenes or those potentially involving minors as a couple of examples?

And should the police have the right to request video not be taken at that point?

The answer might be yes and yes.....I do feel that the phone might be replaced but that bothers me bc she won't learn a lesson.....if the cops told her to move to the other side of the street and she didn't then yes she is obstructing

No. Under the current system documentation is key.
They can ask all they want, it's still up to the property owner.

Perhaps it's the cop that needs to learn a lesson of not destroying private property.

I have been to places where oppression is bad.....I live in the USA....I have a two story house....two fairly new cars.....go boating on the weekends....and my daughter plays AAU basketball which we travel to all the time. If I decide I want a steak on Saturday, I buy some to grill.....is ours the perfect system....no and I wish there were some small changes but acting like we are being held down by the "man" is beyond ridiculous.

Why would those examples call for a temporary ban on video recording?

Okay, I can understand that. But let's say doing so would put a person at risk like say during a high risk response or a barricaded subject. Should the police have the authority to remove said person from the situation if their being there would pose a risk to their personal safety?

Or if their recording might capture some gruesome scenes? Say a murder or rape scene that the families might not want in the public view?

Decide to not pay your taxes this year and find out just how free you are. Again, that quote from that chap that died a hundred plus years ago that I posted earlier will become very relevant in your world.
