Coaching Search Thread

Can we start one where we keep it to legitimate names (no Smarts, Pearls, Marshalls, etc.)?

Buzz Peterson?? Kevin O'Neill?? Wade?? :naughty:

.

Marshall was a legitimate name when they replaced Buzz with Bruce, and when they replaced Bruce with Cuonzo. And had the money been right, we might have had him last year, but that was a pipe dream with what Tennessee was willing to pony up.

After being contacted by UT Chris Holtmann(Butler's head coach) is very interested in the Tennessee job and at this point is the lead candidate. Via bleacher report.

I like this guy, and I think it would be a good hire. Has great charisma, and is a good X's and o's coach.

Well we need him to be good at the X and O's not P's. Also his resume is not very impressive. I mean his 43 but has 4 years of head coaching experience

Of an on poster checking in. Long time poster may be aware of my affiliations to UT.

Just wanted to provide some outside perspective from someone with fairly strong ties to the program.

I really think it's important to get someone who is hard-nosed and fiery yet under the radar. Someone who is not coming from a big program trying to live up to their performance there

Being a New Yorker I like the hard-nosed up-north angle and think you need someone who would totally benefit from the resources of a big time sec program.

Someone like Bobby Gonzalez

Marshall wanted to come here when he was at Winthrop.
Someone close to him said he'd never consider a school that had passed him over. That would eliminate UT.

Anyway, that makes him sound like a douche.

Right now, calling anyone else a douche seem a bit asinine. Seems we have a good supply of douche right here in Knoxville.

If you guys don't like a slow down, motion type of offense, very similar to Martin's, then you're not going to like Holtman.

An interesting name would be a guy like Oliver Purnell. Successful at Dayton and Clemson and then bombed at DePaul, mainly because he couldn't make in roads into the dirty world of Chicago high school and AAU basketball. He is a little older, but has the reputation as a guy who can build a program. He might not be a long term solution, but maybe a 5 year solution, who could allow UT to hire from a position of strength and not weakness. Oh, and OP presses all game long. He could probably keep the current roster intact.

Anyone know what search firm Hart is using? Jack Sells owns a search firm you know. The Gators highly recommend him from what I have been hearing,
