They're not in there and if someone was found guilty of that then they were stoned in the old, kicked out in the new. Again simple and efficient. It's often not the book but the people who claim to represent it where the problems arise.

I didn't watch all of CMD's PC but what I did hear from him even if I was unsure about him as an OC I would feel a little better because I believe he has kept up with the game while he's not been coaching. He understands, probably better than anyone else, what Butch wants to happen with Tennessee's offense. Since only about 20% of posters on VN could be considered to be OC prospects it's doubtful that many of them would be qualified to coach Butch's particular offense. Also, since the other 80% of us could qualify as janitors that would put us in a position to know about CMD's actual expertise. JMO

Surely you don't think any coordinator could easily coach any position just because he's a coordinator?

Not much happening on the Recruiting Forum this morning. Must be too cold for everyone to get out of bed. I'm not going to the Football Forum, I'm too old to face all that mess, could cause major cardiac arrest.

I get the impression Butch knows he wants and he got it. I think everything will work out okay. Butch doesn't suffer fools well. He loves the passion of our fan base but it's lack of football knowledge annoys the crap out of him.

Coach Butch did go out of his way yesterday to make it clear that the term "spread" isn't a precise term. Then the new OC used the term several times to describe the offense the team will be running.

Fair point with Sheridan but what do you do next year when is stint at GA is over?

IMO, you brought in an OC to do your O-line coaches job. Mahoney shouldn't be on staff in 2016.

I think there is a reason no one else asked DeBord to coach QBs since 1986. We will be fine with Sheridan's help with the QBs this year but what do we do after that?

I think they bump Sheridan to QC next season. VQ talks very highly of him. I think Butch will try and hold on to him.

Interesting. I graduated in '98, but I had Coach Gibson as a teacher. I had maybe heard rumblings that she was stern, but I guess I didn't know it was that bad.

Caught that as well.

Again, they are both selling and are old hands at it (pun intended). DeBord knows this offense and that is what Butch wants to do. He doesn't want any new wrinkles, he wants to fully utilize what he has built over the years. It is a spread as most know on here. It is just that his history is that he runs more than he throws out of it when it is fully implemented like Mahlzahn does with his.

Butch knows he can throw the scent off the trail with a lot of fans by saying stuff since they seem to want to hang on every word he speaks. For what Butch believes and wants to do he made a good hire. Those of us that question it are having a hard time believing his offense can take the program to an elite level from what we have seen since he became a HC at CMU, not just since he has been at UT. However, most of us defer to him since he is the one that is paid to deliver the W's. We hope he knows what he is doing and will support him and the program 100%.

I've wondered if they have shown very much of their offense. Maybe the reason he's brought CMD in is to see that the full offense is utilized. With CMB over the offense it seemed like a very small package. They will now have all spring and summer to get everything in place. We'll see.
