At least give the man a year. Butch will have all the influence on the offense regardless. If we struggle it well probably be more on him than DeBord

Ok...then, by that logic, that might have some relevance if we hired him into an administrative position but, in what shape, form, or fashion, does that position translate to calling offensive plays in the SEC?

Keeping in mind that it's been north of a decade since he last called plays for an offense...?

Was he not the OC in Carr's last year? That was 2007-2008.

Call it hyperbole but it was a cheap shot. He's not impressed with the hire and his favorite was hired at Notre Dame, so to compensate for his inner pain and turmoil, he picked what to him was a disparaging job and put it on Debord's resume. If this hire works out, maybe he can take his favorite custodian out to dinner...if it doesn't, check the news feeds for a run of hate crimes on a certain respectable profession...we have a suspect. :glare:

I mean...he called him a janitor, he didn't smack his mama.

Debord is a lame hire. Period. Spin it in which ever way makes you feel better but, that's the prevailing opinion--doesn't mean he's doomed to fail nor the opposite but, people vent on message boards. It is what it is.

That being said...we still have a very promising season ahead of us, with as talented a roster as I can remember in recent memory.

9 wins or bust in 2015.

Serious question.

Do people here truly believe we (or power teams in general) never cheat to get recruits? I get this Arian Foster hate, but pretending schools don't actually do this is insane. The best ones get away with it.

Why is it ok for us to think Bama pays players or UF does, but its not ok to think we did some shady things in the 90's and 2000's?

We have 100% done shady sh*t to get recruits. Every power conference school worth a damn does, which is why I'm not too quick to condemn the Auburns and Ole Misses of the world. I'm not saying Butch and his staff have because I think they're too smart to do anything obvious - and they really are very talented recruiters, I don't want to take that away from them - but did anybody think C. Patterson really wanted to come because he liked Dooley and believed in the future of Tennessee football? Let's not delude ourselves here. We hired his JUCO coach. Same for Dontavius Blair. It's no coincidence that his JUCO OL coach just so happened to get hired as a GA when Blair signed with UT. There's nothing illegal or immoral about that, but some would call it shady.

Probably. I am sure that UT football players have received "extra benefits." But the one key rule is not to flaunt it.

Arian is supposedly an intelligent guy, but he has some motive. He is bringing this on himself, and the irony of it all is without UT, who knows if his life would be any different?

If I told you that Florida or Alabama just hired a coordinator that hasn't called plays in 8 years, would you laugh your butt off?

I didn't know who Jim McElwain was when Alabama hired him, and frankly, I didn't care until they beat us bad. I have learned not to get carried away at hirings because you won't know until you see results.

But, it was just a question. North of a decade does not equal 7 years, and he has been in football much more recently.

What if a HOF Coach hired a coordinator who hadn't coached at the college level in 15 years and had spent those years coaching arena football, NFL Europe and XFL teams? Would you believe that team would go 11-1 the first year?

He's been out of football a long time. And now he's running our offense. Calling it a bad hire due to his tremendous absence from football over the majority of a decade is not flipping out, it's just good sense.

Doesn't mean it's doomed for failure but it doesn't invoke a lot of confidence either. Butch is spending a lot of capital with the fanbase with this hire...if it succeeds, we'll all the better for it but, if it fails, the blame and the consequences lies solely at his feet.

The letter is about 5 pages long. I think you can go into that thread safely. Would have to be a complete asshat for someone to post something stupid in there. I don't think even VN has anyone that bad.

Just finished. You were right.
Was reading between patients and trying not to tear up...
Thank you :salute:

Ok...suspend your own personal reality for a sec...if Debord is successful , is it a lame hire? We get 9 wins and Debord's mama doesn't get smacked? He has a right to vent and I have a right to respond...Message Board Bill of Rights. :hi:

I laughed my butt off when I learned that Bama hired Lane Kiffin, but they went on to win the SEC anyway. My point is even Kiffin can win the SEC with enough talented players.

Luckily I was at home, alone. I didn't have to hold back. There is now a nice printed copy of it hanging in my classroom waiting for my students tonight.....and one line from it written neatly on the white board.

Kiffin is a very good OC. The work he did with Jonathan Crompton is as good a turn around as I've seen for a QB, save Cutcliffe with Ainge.

Obviously we disagree there.
