The main one I see is that despite mine or anyone else's expert opinion Butch seems to know what works for him. What he likes in a staff often runs counter to what myself or many envision but it has worked. Not to be cliché but he really has earned our trust. Also finding an OC willing to toss their playbook for our own is, I imagine, no small feat. Consistency for Dobbs would be a big plus though.

The problem I am having is that Deboring is pretty much the only guy we don't have to buy out their current contract....and is looking for work. Most every other good candidate is currently working somewhere...as a coordinator.

DeBord's the only one looking to get back onto the coaching ferris wheel.This just smacks of an old "debt" being paid...not best fit

I thought of something today that may apply to CBJ potentially hiring DeBord. Everyone has said "trust Butch he knows more than us", "or Butch has never failed us yet" etc etc. Yes, Butch knows more than all of us and knows how to win football games better than all of us. However, Butch is not immune from human nature of "seeing what he wants to see" in people. He has prior convictions and biases with DeBord and sees him in a positive light. In turn he starts applying those biases to his evaluation and interview process. He becomes blinded by tunnel vision and the bar for other candidates is subconsciously raised to overcome everything Butch already thinks about DeBord.

Many of us have applied this same concept to a job or spouse/partner and convinced ourselves it was the right situation because we wanted it to be the right situation. Despite others, who didn't work in the same field or date that particular person, trying to tell us otherwise.

I'm not defending DeBord, I just wonder how many of those bashing him, and pitching a fit could honestly do it without the use of Google, or his wiki page.

One thing for sure if CBJ gets it wrong we will be back to square one starting the 2016 season. I dont think I got enough years left for another staff overhaul. We all just going to have to wait and see how this team responds to his hire. :crazy::crazy::crazy::crazy:

Using that information is the basis for judging him. Why would you NOT use information from those sources? Is there another super secret source of information on Debord's career?

Unless we suffer massive attrition, we will still be far ahead of square one given we'll still have a roster with experienced, top 5 talent.

It's DeBord and has been DeBord before he ever left for Cali. All this talk of interviews is just made to look like he's doing his due diligence. Nothing will be announced till after signing to keep damage to a minimum. This all just my opinion.

I'm thinking the same thing. However, if you know that a hire sucks so bad that you have to wait until after signing day to announce it, why in the h$ll would you make that hire?

Perception vs Reality

Butch thinks the hire is good, but knows the masses won't believe that, so he waits


BUT

I choose not to believe that and instead want to hope that it is because the OC we are hiring from another team is waiting until after NSD out of respect.

Because it's all about the "fit" which means what he's most comfortable with. It'd be like hiring your dad. You know he's gonna agree with you cause he's just happy to spend to e with you.
