Funny, because I distinctly remember Gary Danielson pointing out during the 2012 UGA game that depending on the way the RB lined up next to Bray, you could tell if Chaney had called a run or a pass. He was right nine out of ten times.

Can't average 30+ points and be "abysmal." He definitely wasn't great but above average play caller.

Hubbs reported just a few days ago that money will not be an issue for this hire.

The SECN has changed the landscape of coaches salaries in the SEC forever.

I've posted it more than once on here....

Every school makes more TV money each year than Texas and Notre Dame.

I saw on SEC network with Greg McElroy rating the coordinator hires. For the most part the best schools have big name coaches. Coaches with big resumes. Georgia, Auburn, LSU, A&M all have big name hires. Tennessee has????

Jake was just as bad with that, IMO.

Chaney wasn't perfect, but better than most on here want to give him credit for.

We put up big points with Chaney when Bray was on his game.

I tell myself that's because our defense was so bad and let teams score so quickly that the opposing teams defense wore out as the game went on as they were on the field so much. Bray looked great tossing enough fades to score 30. Giving up 50 was the problem.

It wasnt just that game, it was the whole season. But there was a method to the madness. on the 10th play he was usually going deep to Hunter or Patterson or (for a bit) Da'Rick. That's a set-up all coaches do, and it's worth it when you have home run hitters like those guys. Cant quibble too much over the 2nd best offense in conference.

Stay with me here.

I think the longer this hire takes (past NSD) the more likely there is going to be a pretty significant offensive staff shake up.

Let's say we bring in a guy like Matt Canada (my favorite for a while now) and make him OC and QB's coach. I think it is very likely after that Azzani decides to take the CMU job and takes Mahoney with him.

Then Butch brings Debord in as the OL coach and Canada brings over his WR coach from NC St. or someone else he'd like to have on staff.

You wait till after NSD to not rattle any cages with recruiting at our school or at the school the OC is coming from.

Any thoughts that something like this could go down? Or is everyone still thinking Debord and everyone stays pat?

My take: Butch wants as little change as possible. He will hire accordingly and try to prevent any more dominos from falling. I think he'll accommodate Z as much as possible and try and bump Jancek to the same salary as the new OC to keep the peace. IDT Z will be named Co-OC unless it's the only way to keep him and safeguard recruiting. More than likely, a nice bump and a creative new title with more prestige and responsibility will pacify Z for another year. He's not atop the CMU list, so he may find he can do better by staying here for now.

If Z goes to CMU, he could attempt to take other coaches with him, and I think Butch wants to avoid this at all costs. Butch wants stability and that means keeping his system and staff intact so the players can focus on improving on what they already know with coaches they trust. Anything that will bring upheaval or major change (even positive change) will be a non-starter, IMO. If it's anyone but DeBord, that guy will have to run Butch's system Butch's way and fit in seamlessly with Butch's staff. Going outside his circle comes with more risk than Butch seems willing to assume in a critical year 3

JMO... but Butch has said much of it.

Much like recruiting ranks, let's rate these hires again in five years. They'll be much different.

The problem with that logic is that each of those situations is MUCH more stable than TN....

Georgia--They aren't getting rid of Richt so he can afford to roll the dice and "shake things up" with a "new" offensive system.

Auburn--Malzahn is as stable as they come besides Saban and Meyer right now. Plus, Muschamp had a previous stint and will be given time to implement his system.

LSU--See Georgia, but flip sides of the ball. But maybe with a little less security for the Hat.

AM--Sumlin has security and they seem to have talent on that side of the ball. Therefore, ANY improvement will be seen as a huge step forward from the last two years.

Right now Tennessee doesn't have the luxury of bringing in just anyone and rolling the dice, they need someone who "fits" and will bring philosophical continuity with some new wrinkles.

All that said, just because you bring a big name in doesn't mean they will be successful IMO (see. Charlie Weis) :hi:

I'm all in for Clay Helton. All in for Debord. Why? Because I trust in Butch to get this thing done right.

No worries. Jimmies unrustled. Enlightenment found.
