Posted this in Kamara's thread but he is now a 5* and #1 overall juco player on 247, not the composite though. Also if you go by 247 and not the composite we have the the number 2 class and the most 5* commits with 4

If you average Rivals and 247 (the only legit sites IMO) it looks like this.

#1 - Alabama - 1 average
#2 - USC - 3 average
#3 - Tenn - 3.5 average
#3 - FSU - 3.5 average
#5 - Clems - 5 average
#6 - UGA - 6 average
#6 - OSU - 6 average

I don't understand the need of a recommendation from Urban Meyer for DeBord. Butch used to be DeBord's OC, what is the recommendation supposed to tell Butch he wouldn't know already?

I hope it is Norvell, but don't think we would pay a million for him. I think either Mazzone or Canada would be good too.

It's called vetting all candidates and doing due diligence. I would say he is probably talking to several people that he trust their opinions in terms of coaching football to make sure he isn't making a decision based on emotional feeing toward a mentor And making the best decision for his programs future. its not like he and Debord have been side by side for the past 8 years either. Butch has been a little busy coaching 3 different programs. He knows the guy but he still has to verify what he Has been up to the past few years behind the scenes.

Maybe Butch is set on DeBord. Maybe he needs to do more interviews because he knows he has more than 1 spot to fill coaching wise. Jmo

Yep Rucker has said that Butch is preparing for every scenario so that he can be ready to strike in case something did happen. He doesn't leave anything to chance.

IMO all this talk that Debord is 100% locked up is a #Smokescreen.

VQ is known as the mouthpiece of the AD (I still love them and go to them for all my info) but I have learned to cut through their info and analyze the layers.

To me they are setting the foundation for DeBord to be brought in as a QC/OL type guy and they are putting his name out for Butch as the odds on favorite to keep everyone preoccupied while he does the search himself.

I think he had Debord come in this weekend, evaluate what we have going on, the talent on the roster and let him know what he thinks could be some good tweaks we could add and what type of OC to look for. You don't bring a guy in you are thinking of hiring as your OC let him spend all weekend with the team then go ahead an go forward with a normal coaching search afterward when he is the first guy in the door.

Now maybe Butch will decide all these other guys aren't good enough and go back to Debord but I think above is what is actually going on and if you look into what Brent and JB are saying they are hinting at that while still putting out the statements that he is "the frontrunner". They will do this for the AD because they know that Butch will give them the lowdown of the hire and they'll get to announce who it is first when he give them the go.

Development and results on the field, have made those assistants hot commodities...maybe Pinkel has that knack of finding the next bright star...it is amazing what they've accomplished with low rated recruiting.

In the ten years I can review, only 4 has Pinkel performed better than recruiting averages. It's just that half of those over performances have come in the past two years. The majority of his career, in relation to talent (not gross wins) Pinkel performs more like 2012 than '13 and '14.

Good points. I did find it odd that he spent entire weekend in Knox including meeting for film sessions with the teams too playmakers. I don't think that is common practice.

Whoever the OC is, he better not "Richt" us. We have 4 5* on offense and quality depth. (Expect O-line) He will have talent ****ting out of his ass.

This is what I have been thinking as well. You don't just not hire a guy (especially your old boss and someone you have learned from) that just came in for a whole weekend and evaluated some of your QB's and have a meeting with Dobbs and North. I would bet money on this exact thing happening. Also, I am not a betting man.

I would love to have Debord come in as QC and help out with OL. And has anybody else heard about the rumors that players do not typically like Mahoney? I know someone just posted something like that and that Mahoney is not getting his job done in recruiting, but I figured I would ask again to see if anyone in the know would be able to drop some info regarding that.

The Mizzou program was a toilet when he took over...didn't start out great for Pinkel either up until he landed Brad Smith...then took off with Chase Daniel...it's been a roller coaster since then but the Mizzou of the last two seasons is the true representation...could that go south or implode? Of course, it'd probably be wise to keep recruiting better than them...just to be safe. :good!:

I was ok with Mahoney sticking if Butch didn't want to shake up the staff just yet. Now that changes are being made, Mahoney IMO is prime to be on the way out.

I agree and great post. At first I was pretty nervous about this Debord stuff. But as this plays out it seems this is exactly what the weekend in Knox was about.

I think you are likely to be correct. I cannot see DeBord as OC with the current state of his career as well as matching up with Butch's offensive system. I can see him as you describe and he would add great value in that capacity.

I completely agree with these assessments and said the same last night- you just don't usually bring someone in for a whole weekend to interview and then let them meet with players and do film sessions... De1 alluded to hearing that one of our QC guys was already out(Parker?)....

You could be right. Or, it could be that Hart put the brakes on. But you are definitely right about Hubbs. UT feeds him information that they want to get out.

How much do QC guys at TN typically earn? Is UT free to pay their QC big bucks if they want to have Debord in that role?

Butch went and got advice from someone he trusts before he did anything. He evaluated our program, incoming talent, etc. himself over the weekend and then you started to hear new OC candidates. Canada from NC State and so forth.....

I think it would stabilize the O to have an old hand around. There is a lot of seasoning on the Defensive side of the ball already.
