Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Coach jones will be on the football scoop radio show coming up. The show is on espn radio I think it's 104.5 the baton rouge station. If you have the ESPN radio app you should get it easily. He is gonna talk about the OC situation. Also if you follow footballscoop on Twitter they will tweet out a link.

Who said anything about offering DeBord a job as OC?

He didn't even get a sniff as a TE coach which he had been doing in the NFL prior to getting canned.

Harbaugh thought his 25 year old son could handle that job better than DeBord.
First of all, he didn't really get canned. His boss lost his job, and the new boss cleaned house.
Secondly, do you think that Harbaugh should not have hired his own son if he felt that he was qualified? I mean come on. Some of you people are insane over a dang coaching hire.

It absolutely amazes me to see adults whining and crying like little children, because they don't get their way with the hiring of a stupid football coach. Good grief.

No we are just looking at the state of our program and the direction its going in. Some of us realize that Debord is an older guy who hasn't done any offensive coaching since 2008. And when Harbaugh was hired he didn't even consider a man, whom you have stated, has over 30 years of NCAA and NFL experience combined for ANY job. Also this same guy has not been actively coaching for quite some time. That's something to be concerned with when your program is on the rise like ours.

Regardless of what anyone wants to think, the OC for a team matters. We need an OC who has been at least active for the past couple of years. We need a younger guy who will inject some dynamic, down field passing to our offense.

In his defense he was an Olympic advisor in his last role.
If we have questions concerning rhythmic gymnastics or jumping on a trampoline we are set!
Too bad we didn't have him last year- didn't adoree pick usc because he wanted to be an Olympic athlete?

I guess I just took the part about if I am so concerned with Michigan staffing to go on their board as unwarranted. I felt even if we do not "know reasons why" it was fair to question why not just Michigan, but any school has hired him in the two years he has not been coaching.

Has he not been at Michigan. Sounds like he is in a semi retired mode kicking back. For all we know he may have turned down a job on the staff. 2 Years ago he rejoined the Michigan Athletics staff not the Football staff. He is 59.

You asked a question that only 1 or 3 people can answer. Harbaugh, DeBord and possibly Jones.

Well, Sunday brought about more meetings on the University of Tennessee campus featuring Butch Jones, Mike DeBord and other members of the Vols' football program and athletics department.

DeBord left Rocky Top between 1-2 Sunday afternoon.

While DeBord, we are told by folks on campus, left a very positive impression this weekend, as we noted late Saturday night Jones has continued vetting candidates.

In fact, Jones will be flying out to both recruit and conduct additional interviews in airports and other settings along the recruiting trail throughout the next 48-72 hours.

Mike Norvell is a name we've heard consistently and reported since Friday; but Norvell has a $900,000 annual salary per a USA Today report. Sources indicated to us that Norvell has indicated any discussions about a position would need to initiate with a seven-figure salary.

More names we picked up today include Mike Canada, the N.C. State offensive coordinator who just finished his second season with the Wolfpack.

Noel Mazzone, who has ties in the SEC after runs at Auburn, Ole Miss and in the ACC at N.C. State, is the offensive coordinator presently at UCLA but as noted above, has strong ties in the South and is on the list of candidates Jones and his inner circle are vetting.

Typically in these situations, a head coach will bring in his agent --- in this case, Jones is represented by Trace Armstrong --- to help facilitate conversations with potential candidates beyond just the initial texts and phone calls.

South Carolina's G.A. Mangus is a name that we've previously reported and one that has consistently surfaced across the course of the weekend.

North Carolina's Gunter Brewer is another candidate the Vols are exploring and could meet with in the next 48 hours.

Additionally, sources told us that Jones has spoken/will speak with 1-3 NFL assistant coaches.

Other names who have been confirmed by VolQuest.com to have been definitely vetted by Jones & his inner circle include Billy Napier, Josh Heupel and Seth Luttrell.

DeBord met with all of the Vols' quarterbacks, and then had an additional film session with Joshua Dobbs, who brought with him Marquez North. DeBord met with additional support staff.

Several NFL coaches and personnel people, as well as Urban Meyer among others, have reportedly reached out to Jones on DeBord's behalf.

Fit and continuity continue to be top-tier priorities for Jones in the OC search; he's very mindful of returning 10 starters and wanting to be able to utilize same terminology, system and more. DeBord has previous ties with Willie Martinez, Mark Elder, John Jancek, Don Mahoney and Steve Stripling.

While Zach Azzanni continues to be a name consistently mentioned on the short list of head coaching candidates at his alma mater, Central Michigan, where John Jancek also could be a candidate. If Jones can retain Azzanni, it would not be unexpected to see Azzanni elevated to something along the lines of passing game coordinator while Robert Gillespie could be in line to gain a promotion to recruiting coordinator.

Why would "several NFL coaches and personnel people, as well as Urban Meyer among others" reach out in support of an old out of touch dinosaur, who hasn't coached since Lassie was a pup, and is too old to relate to anyone not in a nursing home?

I do not like when a current coach speaks on behalf of someone for us to hire, especially Urban.
