Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Because we are tired of wait and see, wait until next year, hopefully it works out, diamond in the rough, has potential, and all the other BS that comes with mediocre hiring

Count, I didnt say wait till next year man.
I said wait until the O and W game which is in about 10 weeks. We are coming off the best year we have had since 2007.
And now, a public service announcement to all those raising cane about the potential OC hire.... As Oddball said to Moriarty in Kelly's Heroes:
"Why don't you knock it off with those negative waves. Why dont you dig how beautiful it is out here. Why dont you say something righteous and hopeful for a change".

Losing to Florida, Alabama, and Georgia every year is much tougher

We spend an "inordinate" amount of time laying "bricks", where "individuals" come together as the "power of one" installing good "eye discipline" with intentions of filling Neyland to "one 0 two four fifty five" every Saturday night. Its a "process" man, and it will play out....eventually ...at some point. ...in the near or not so near and/or distant future

i agree but not a whole lot we can do about it. This is not just on Jones, it stems back to 4 coaches with staff changes.

It now firmly rests on his shoulders and he appears to be closing the gap that the others created. In doing so, he is fixing other areas as well. Academics, discipline, recruiting and the lists goes on and on.

We have been saying wait till next year long before CBJ and staff arrived. We will continue until we do get there no matter who the coach is.

Difference is that CBJ is fixing more than the others ever even addressed.

Just for the record,

On February 1, 2013, DeBord was hired by Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon to be the sports administrator for the school's Olympic sports teams. In this role he works with the field hockey, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's track and field, and men's and women's tennis programs.

Well........ Butch has always said he wants a diverse offense.

Very well said!
I applaud Jones' "body of work building a football family"
I just pray we don't lose the momentum with a lackluster hire. I want someone hungry to bring the fight and recruit

Yes but he was only a TE position coach.
He has not been significantlyon the recruiting trail in a decade.
He also was let go at both of his stops at position coach, and was not play calling at either.
Now at his administrative job at Michigan the new coaching staff didn't even think enough of his abilities to reintroduce him into being a position coach (even TE!) much less play calling.
He has a great resume, just ancient history. I can't imagine him being the one to play call us into sec prominence.

You said that he "was let go at both of his stops at position coach," but that is extremely misleading. He was hired my Mike Holmgren to the Seahawks staff in 2008, retained by Jim Mora when he took over in 2009 , after Mora fired 6 other Holmgren coaches and retained Debord.

He was let go from the Seahawks in 2010 when Pete Carroll took over as head coach, and named one of his former USC assts to the job held by Debord.

Then Debord was hired by the Bears , where he worked for 3 years until Mark Trestman was hired as head coach, and he promptly fired the staff, and replaced them with people who he had worked with previously.....Kromer, Cavanaugh, Peete, Bischoff, Meyer, and Tibesar.

Debord was not let go by anyone who hired him. He was the victim of head coaching changes, where the new head coach hired people with whom he has worked previously. They all have their guys who they trust, and want to work with.

As far as the new Michigan staff not hiring him, I covered that in another post. Harbaugh has his own o-line coach who he has worked with at 3 previous stops. Coaches all have their own guys.

I will correct my statement to read " failed to be retained".
I wonder why you wouldn't keep him coaching at least TE's with his vast professional experience at this position?

Good thing coach Jones doesnt have to take advice from everyone on here!
He would never be able to find Jake's replacement!

He knows this is an important hire, and I trust him to do what he thinks is best for the program. Rather than be negative, whichever way it goes, why not wait to see how it plays out with our recruits, our current players and staff, and on the field results in the OW game. Is that too much to ask of our fanbase?

Would you actually be satisfied with the Debord hire? If so you are part of the problem.

TBH, he doesnt knock my socks off, but it kills me to see people THiNK they know more than the HC.[/I]

Nah. Next 4 but not the next 2. It's all about the money.

We may not be able to afford to fire him for four years, but if he doesn't get it done in he next two then all the air will go out of the balloon and he'll be gimping along playing out the string. He can't afford to screw this up.

Was Butch a mediocre hire?

At best we're in wait and see mode on that. So Count's post still rings truer than ever. If we can't make a reasonable hire after what we've accomplished, when will we do it?

I'm sorry it's just "Olympic sports coordinator" sounds like code for "respectfully put out to pasture"

What qualifies people like you and Count to determine what reasonable is? Are you a million dollar D1 coach with your career on the line? Have you led a team of young men into anything other than Sunday school? It's his career on the line, we're just fans, I would suspect CBJ is fully aware of the magnitude of this hire.

I am not qualified to answer that question now; thats my whole point. Cause nobody else on here is either.
the question is, when the hire is made, was Butch and the people on the inside satisfied.

It's part of the role of being a fan. If I'm just supposed to blindly follow along, Dools and Hamilton are probably still here. Nothing worse than people that come in, provide no insight to the board and tell me I can't question things.
