Honest question here, what about last season would appeal to the WR recruits? Either form a QB perspective or a scheme perspective?
No kidding. If its just s a figurehead then he needs to go out and find a PROVEN topnotch recruiter, not some guy that Michigan only saw fit to give a BS job too. We need a guy that at least has had to recruit since the internet and social media have become a HUGE part of it.
Fair point, but I would think the recruiting pitch these first recruiting years for Butch here at UT was based on the offensive play at his past stops. Pitching this is what we are going to do. He's likely been saying they are playing to the limited skill sets on the current roster. Of course that's all likely gross speculations by me. lol
Didn't say he didn't hire some coaches he had experience with. But if Harbaugh brought HIS GUYS with him, then Greg Roman and Vic Fangio would have come with him. They didn't. There goes your argument....again.Right, but he named Tim Drevno as his off. coord .at Michigan. Trevno has worked with Harbaugh at San Diego St, Stanford, and the S.F. 49ers. He coached the o-line for 3 years at S.F. under Harbaugh. So, there goes your argument.
Pretty much what he's saying....without actually saying it. People who wanted Bajakian fired for supposed inept play-calling, in effect want CBJ fired....according to this "Butch is the OC" logic. So in essence everyone who has been blaming Bajakian for our inept offense should have been blaming CBJ the whole time?
That IS a fair point and I'm sure the coaches talk up Antonio Brown every chance they get...(Steelers fan here).
DeBord Coached Mario Manningham, more position specific would be Jake Long...point being, the guy has a resume and...
Not One Person On This Board Knows Why He Took An Administrative Position At UM.
I'm not endorsing him, are there others I hope get interviews...of course. We're all just speculating as far as I know, 'cept for this "check my stats" fellow, no harm in that.
Not sure why but I know Michigan fans were not to happy about DeBord returning in any capacity.
Press Release- Mike DeBord Named Sport Administrator
While I didn't appreciate DeBord as an offensive coordinator, I do believe that he was a very good offensive line coach at Michigan. He was also recognized as one of the best (if not the best) recruiters on Carr's coaching staff.
This is a nonstory, imho.
You posted a link. Therefore I had to read everything which, ya know....kinda sucks.
There was this one curious post:
The OL thing isn't surprising, but the recruiter part is something different than what's been said.
I particularly like all the Cam Cameron stuff....oh those zany Michigan'ers...look at the bright side, from whom to you think Tom Brady learned how to properly deflate a ball?
Sorry about that. Yeah seems most people think DeBord was a good position coach especially offensive line which he played in College. I take the recruiting with a grain of salt. Michigan has never had much trouble getting players.

Or he may have made a promise to help a guy who once helped him. I don't for a minute believe CBJ is the OC in any capacity. And the offenses are not as simplified as you try to make it out to be. I've heard QB's talk about playbooks being the size of a phone book....including Chip Kelly's. You know, the one offense you say is simple. That's a load of crap. There may be some base concepts, but there are a million different wrinkles to them, and lots of nuances that have to be mastered.Fans are always obsessed about playcalling. But the whole point of these uptempo spread offenses is that everything is quick and simple and it becomes much more about execution rather than fooling them with playcalling. Remember in the bowl game how the announcer could tell which way Hurd was running based on where he was lined up? That's by design; that's what Oregon does too. This is not some super-complicated offense where you need a genius playcaller. Notice, for example, how Oregon's offense/playcalling hasn't suffered at all since Chip Kelly left.
As far as people wanting Bajakian fired over the playcalling....well, most football fans don't know much about football. Plays that work are great calls; plays that don't work are terrible calls. QED. When in reality it's hard make plays work in an offense built around execution when your OL is too crappy to execute.
The fact that Butch is apparently seriously considering bringing in an old crony who hasn't been an OC in a decade seems like pretty strong evidence that everything about this offense is his and he wants to keep it that way.
And you know this...........how?And some of you wonder why people get off on "trolling" Internet forums.
Don't flame posters like Bob who clearly stir ****, then proceed to validate it.
Butch Jones is going to actually hire someone relevant and relatable to the athletes currently in his program and others he is seeking. Not an old, outdated, highly unsuccessful coach who hasn't had success at any position in CFB since these recruits were coveting coloring books and sugar coated cereal.
