Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

I think the reason why we may have to go w/ DeBord because other candidates might have discussed that they would want to bring in one of their own guys.

If it's a qb coach ( or wr if azzani takes the cmu job) I'm ok with that!

SIAP

We're told by numerous people on campus that Jones and Tennessee could potentially begin meeting face-to-face with offensive coordinator candidates this weekend, and Mike DeBord, we are told from three sources, has a couple of NFL options on the table but would be available for an in-person meeting and could be in Knoxville today.

The more this plays out the more its Like dools 2.0.. Coaches leave..dools tells us everybody wants to be here n he hires a lb coach...lol

The only constant here is hart.. U have to wonder if he is meddling more than we know..

If this guys is hired cbj will not be our coach much longer..fire your good friend to hire your grandpa that gave u your first job..yeah that's the bsia baby

Guy won a Natty as Michigan's OC in '97. I understand that the game has changed in 18 years, but the guy can't be a total hack.

I honestly believe we should be more worried about Coach Z leaving. Would be catastrophic for recruiting this cycle and the next.

1997 is more than 13 years ago.

Best Coaching staff in America! Thought Butch was quoted saying he was "humbled" at the interest that has been generated about the position.... guess that means humbled that no one wanted to come here.... if DeBord is all we can get, we are in big trouble and will look like a pack of idiots.... but I got flamed in another thread for just speaking the truth none of the sunshine pumpers want to hear.... Oh well, take DeBord and see how that works out for you... folks got pissed every game at Baj and his play calling... just wait till DeBord steps in! GREAT Recruiter... wait, nevermind. Auburn is opening up the checkbook because they are serious about winning, while UT once again goes bargain basement shopping and will settle for mediocre results.... and will then complain about it... you get what you pay for and we are about to actually go backwards....

I doubt any of us want to be successful more than Butch does. He has a lot more riding on this hire than we do. Do you really think he is going to do something stupid? CALM DOWN!!

I am a Butch Jones homer but I heard the same statements when I was bellyaching about Dooley ruining our program for years to come. Having said that I trust based on what good decisions he has made recruiting and alumni wise he will make a good choice. What I laugh about is the guys on here who took every opportunity to bash Baj now think he was a good OC. The fact is he was not.

Think about it....Butch runs this offense...DeBord wouldn't interfere...he wants the job and we can pay him less. Butch probably doing the guy a favor since he hired Butch as oc back in the day. I hate it as much as everyone else, but right on par for Tennessee tradition.

Even when he was coaching, his position affiliation spells out, in bold letters, a declining coach.

Just like when looking at Sunseri's resume before being a DC at UT, then DC at UT, then after you say "ah, yeah, so that's why he was never a DC".
Yes, he was coaching all NFL talent in his one year here. With our 2012 talent and blazing speed, I have to admit that I was surprised that we didn't dominate while learning a new defense with all new coaches.

You are wrong on so many levels. CBJ did not fire CMB. Lovie Smith wanted CMB on his staff and CMB wanted to go back to NFL.
Debord did not hire CBJ. CBJ was already at CM when Debord became HC and Debord retained him as rb coach, then promoted him to OC. I am beginning to agree with others on VN that you are simply a troll.

Maybe not in thirteen years but it has changed in 18 years

Since Sunseri was apparently a massively misunderstood talent both before and after he left the sh1tshow that is UT football... why hasn't he gotten another crack at DC?

I mean, surely you know more than every other coach in college and NFL football. Because seriously he's a career position coach.

Some really good position coaches are bad coordinators.

Some really good coordinators are really bad head coaches.

Not meaning to be dramatic but this hire could very well be the defining moment in his career.
People in knoxville have been giving him time for the "program building" process, but very soon people will be demanding results. If his oc fails him he could ultimately lose his job.
He may be betting his career on his mentor who has essentially been out of the game for some time.
Risky pick in my opinion.
Maybe bet on a surer bet that runs a similar style that would schematically fit rather than personally fit.
I wish I didn't care so much, but this Is not promising in my eyes.
