'15 MD OT Pat Allen

Allen, a four-star prospect, still appears to be torn between Tennessee and Georgia after reopening his recruitment Jan. 2 following the departures of former Bulldogs offensive coordinator Mike Bobo and offensive line coach Will Friend. Now that Georgia has hired Rob Sale — a former LSU lineman who previously was the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at McNeese State — as the Bulldogs' offensive line coach and added former St. Louis Rams offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to replace Bobo, Allen likely will spend the next couple of weeks getting to know Sale and Schottenheimer before making his final decision.

For now, neither the Vols nor the Bulldogs appear to have the clear advantage, although Allen seemed poised to choose Tennessee if he had followed through on his plan to announce his decision Jan. 4 at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Carson, Calif. It now will be interesting to see whether Allen allows any other schools to sneak into the picture. South Carolina is among the teams that recently have shown interest in him, and it’s not out of the question that new Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s staff could reach out to Allen. It’s worth noting that the Wolverines hosted Allen on an official visit in late September.

Two top 10 OL is technically an incorrect statement and a bit misleading, but I see where you're going...

How are the ninth and 10th ranked OTs not two top 10 OL? Technically or otherwise if they are ranked the ninth and 10th at their position by Rivals, that puts them in the top 10 for their position group. I am curious how the other poster's statement is not correct?

We have one top 10 OT and one top 10 OG. By stating it as "we have two top 10 OL", you are saying that both of them are in the top 10 for highest rated OL, which is not true. That would be like the Grizzlies claiming that they have 3 top 10 players because Gasol, Randolph, and Conley are top 10 for their positions.

No idea how the Sale hiring will be for UGA, kind of underwhelming IMO at this point but I'm sure they will sell it as a great hire. I still think Allen is leaning our way and is ours to lose.

I think Allen and St. Louis are good (to very good) players, but I don't see either of them as "can't miss" or players that will make or break this recruiting class. Would they be nice to have? Absolutely and I would take either of them, but IMO they are more icing on the cake than anything.

Precisely what the guy above me wrote. A top 10 OT and a top 10 OG do not equal 2 top 10 OL. OL rankings would obviously have to include OT, OG, and C.

Edit: about 4 posts above me...

Bad hire's IMO. Will spell the end for Richt's tenure at UGA.

Getting at least one of them is an absolute necessity, IMO. Getting both of them would be icing on the cake.

I think you're right for the most part. I prefer Allen, but St Louis had some really solid performances recently at the post season practices, I never can remember UA versus Army All American versus Semper Fidelis Bowl as far as who's where though.

Why is it an absolute necessity to get either of them? The coaches should absolutely try to get them, but it won't make or break this class IMO. They could provide good depth for sure, but I don't seem either of them as Day 1 starter types.

It's definitely not a necessity but finding a LT for the future is probably one of the most important issues for this class. Jack Jones might be that guy but I'd like to add another talent like Allen. Probably unlikely that Allen starts as a true freshman but ideally you wouldn't want to start true freshmen on the Oline anyways.

Agree. I should have quoted OG in my response. My bad.

Not sure about Allen effect but I read where LSU fans are concerned on their end because Sale has a big "in" with Monroe kids in Louisiana. So you may see some LA kids make their way to UGA over next few years.

This is why it is a necessity. I hope they do not have to start at LT, but we have no depth at that particular position on our roster. That is why it is a necessity for the future.

You are correct as far the game goes. The other guys used O-line in total - which is akin to saying a WR, slot and TE are all receivers, so which is the best of that diverse group. Not really applicable, but that's where they went with it.

Agreed. I just think it's easier to say 3 top 10 OL instead of 1 top 10 OG, 1 top 10 OT, and 1 top 10 C. Neither is incorrect IMO, one is just much easier to communicate.
