Bolden and McCoy out for Outback bowl

So a really good showing against a good (not great) Wisconsin team does nothing to help in the following season? That's rediculous, you always want to end the season on a good note.
Drilled Michigan after the 2001 season. How'd 2002 go? Annihilated A&M after 2004 season. Remind me again how good 2005 was.

Another thing, it's ridiculous that people keep talking about "New Year's Day Bowls" as if that means anything anymore. This isn't 1977.

Agreed, and only one of those really mean anything. The rest of it is just cash exchanging hands.

Hey hey... what do you know - a meaningless bowl game between two middle of the road teams gets even more meaningless... It's been 3 years and Demonte STILL hasn't gotten his head on straight.

Glad basketball season is heating up. :hi:

What more does a Sugar Bowl win mean than the Outback Bowl? can't we argue only the BCS National Championship Game matters? The letters BCS honestly mean nothing to me unless its the National Championship.

Probably about 2 million more dollars in Hamilton's hands.

Well, winning a Sugar Bowl means you beat either a conference champion or an at large team in the Top 12. Winning the Outhouse Bowl means you just beat some middle of the Big 10 slop. However, I have no problem with your logic. Now, you can quit using the term "New Year's Day Bowl" as if it means something.

Maybe if we get beat 42-17 like we did 10 years ago to Nebraska, we can come back and win the NC in '08 with a new QB.

Well, "New Years Day Bowl" does sound more optimistic. When your a UT student with 26 family members who have graduated from Wisconsin its a big game. I'm just trying to spread the excitement.

Good betting opportunity, yes.
Big game, I would probably say no.

I'd say this game is important for a couple of reasons. Troy Fleming embarrassed the university a few years ago at the Peach Bowl. That better not happen again. If you're a student, every loss tends to sting a bit more. If you're a junior at UT, you've had nothing to hang your hat on at the end of the season since you've been a college student.

A degree wouldn't be a bad accomplishment...

TRUE STORY.

Luckily I have been a Vol fan long before I came to UT.

the most exciting things for most students was in 2005 (freshman year) when we beat LSU. It was a monday night and no one felt like doing anything else, so we marched down to the Neyland Stadium parking lot and burned a couch (classy, I know).

That being said, the 2006 year started out strong and I guess could be considered something to "hang your hat on," but it ended up very dissappointing.

You're telling me that the difference between 9 wins and 10 is going to have a real carryover? Please.

I will, when people quit acting as if wins in meaningless bowls against mediocre competition are any springboard for the next season.

Regardless, it's the next game that the Vols play any many of us are looking forward to watching it. You are right that the few bowl wins we've had in recent years haven't really helped us in the following season....but I'd still prefer to win rather than lose.

you'd better believe that I would rather go into the recruiting season with a big win (such as it were) as opposed to a stinging defeat. I just want to go through an off season with any kind of a good vibe.

I'm with you, my wife graduated from Wisconsin, and I don't won't to hear about for the rest of my life if we lose

GO VOLS

Any links to an article that actually says Bolden McCoy are out? GVX says no news until this afternoon, TFP has this from Fulmer..."“There’s a lot of things positive here academically, but there’s three or four guys — and maybe even more — that I’m concerned about.” ...

That is not naming names....

*OK... Chris Low seems to be the only one to go with names...
Junior tackle Demonte Bolden and sophomore outside linebacker Rico McCoy failed to meet the necessary academic requirements and will be ineligible to play against Wisconsin on Jan. 1, multiple sources within the Tennessee athletic department told ESPN.com.

Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer is expected to announce the suspensions on Friday.

Rico went to a good Catholic school in DC,

I am surprised by this, his HS prepares kids for Ivy League school so he should easily be prepared for UT.

Dont they only have to pass 8 hours of school per semester to be eligable??
