Why did the cops ask Vol fan to sit down last night?

There are cops who work for UT. They are called UTPD. They look like normal KPD. Get a ticket from them and you are headed down to the Knoxville municipal court.

I'm familiar with the UTPD, but if they're now operating under the jurisdiction of the Knoxville Municipal court system, things have changed since my time on the Hill. And for the most part, in my day, they only issued parking citations.

Citations were not issued inside the stadium. You were asked to comply, and if you refused, they'd boot you out. No tickets, no fines, just a simple "you're outta here."

How in freaking Hades did this dumb thread make it to 15 pages much less 15 pages in like 2 hours? Ugh

Fifteen pages for noobs that have no clue on how to change their posts per page. Five pages for those of us that do.

I can tell you from personal experience they issue more than parking tickets and you go to the Knoxville municipal court to "fight it"

My lord at the butt hurt up in here. If people around you stand up and you don't. That's a you problem. If I'm not mistaken there are handicap sections for people with ailments. If you can walk to the stadium and then to your seats, I can't fathom a reason for not standing up. As for these people who think cops can simply tell you what to do, thanks for allowing them to continually take away our freedoms. You're the people gruber was talking about, don't know the "gruber" reference. Please do a google search

This is just so funny. I stand and scream when we are on D, on kickoffs, and often stand (without screaming) when we are in the red zone. I think that's respectable. I don't stand "just to be that guy." It's usually well understood by those around us, most of which behave the same way.

I just don't get how this is that big of a deal... I have rarely if ever seen somebody stand the WHOLE game! 95 percent of the time people only stand while we're on D or kickoffs or something like that! If you don't want somebody to stand in front of you buy a season ticket and buy the seat in front of you as well!

Winner! Great post.

Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean that it doesn't happen to others. A poster here claims he stands through all the games, although considering his current residence, that should probably be "stood."

I have no problem with the 95 percent bit you mentioned. I'm one of them too.

The person that complained likely also left with six minutes left in the fourth quarter. I was also in section K last night, and I had practically four rows to myself. The conversation I had with the Mizzou fans in the section was pretty interesting. If you're not going to stay for 60 minutes of football, give up your seat to someone that's willing to cheer on their team until the last seconds tick away.

If Weezer is ever at a game standing in front of you in defiance you can easily bribe him with a bare chested hug and he'll sit down. :)

I am an usher in the stadium. Whether it is liked or not, the person has a right to stand as long as he is not standing on the seat. The cop had no jurisdiction to make him sit, and the usher of that section should have told the officer to leave him alone. If the cop continued the issue, a stadium supervisor should have asked him to move on. I agree that there should be consideration for those who sit around you if you stand, but he really does have the right to stand up for the entire game. The police were out of line.

an usher with more authority than cop ? where were you ushers when stuff was being thrown at the Missouri players (its in another thread) for the most part ushers are worthless and gutless at any event

That's pretty much the way all non-douchebags behave in a stadium.

Don't go revealing my kryptonite.

And let it be known, hugs from bare chested women will get me to sit down, but mini-me will then be standing up.

Don't be fooled by the mini-me moniker. He's about the size of Verne Troyer.

Holy God, some of the copsuckers on this thread are priceless. I bet some of you indoctrinated invertebrate jellyfish would march right into an oven if a cop gave you the "lawful order" to do so. Funny how a thread on sitting/standing can unexpectedly expose some as authoritarian gutless slaves. Man.....some of you would have made a fine bar of soap in 1940s Nazi Germany

Its a damn football game!! Some of us drive many hours and spend much of our hard earned dollars to cheer on our vols. I don't view it as being a jerk if I like to stand and yell. This is absurd. I got kicked out of an opener several years ago for this very thing and it still pisses me off to this very day.

Its a football game. If you cant stand and cheer then give your seat up to someone who will.there are plenty of tv timeouts to sit back down and rest.

If you're standing up the entire game and it isn't because you need a better view, you're just being a jerk.

Sorry, but college football isn't supposed to be watched passively like golf or tennis. Fans should participate and, yes, STAND when their team scores or plays defense. This is an accepted social convention in every football stadium outside of Knoxville. Unless you have some kind of disability, when you ask somebody ahead of you to sit down at a college football game YOU'RE the one being rude.

If you want to watch the game on your ass, you're perfectly free to stay home. Sitters like you are the reason why Neyland Stadium isn't as loud as smaller capacity stadiums like Florida or LSU. How did our fan base get so soft that people are now complaining about fans standings at a football game??? Embarrassing!!!
