Why did the cops ask Vol fan to sit down last night?

Here is my rule basically. If the person in front of me stands, so shall I. Cant see because im standing? Tell the guy in front of me to sit down. Im a partial stander. I tend to spring onto my feet if we make plays. I also dont want to miss any gameplay because im sitting behind a stander.

Hello. I was sitting in section K last night and a Vol fan about four rows in front of me was standing up and cheering for the Vols. The guy behind him politely asks him if he would sit down. He then says I am a VFL and cheering for my team. The fan then gets the cops to ask that man to sit down and he pleads his case to the cops saying he is cheering for his team. I had no problem with this man standing and cheering for the Vols. So why did the cops ask him to sit down? Didn't that man have the liberty of standing up and cheering for Tennessee? Thank you for your time.

maybe the stander had a couple bowls of chilli before the game

Hahaha. Hilarious man. You may be scared of cops, not me buddy. I can more than handle my own. And what's with the 'junior'?

So much name calling and judging just because I disagree with some of you. Maybe you are the ones that need to grow up.
We got a tough guy on our hands here.

You have common sense and decency. I applaud you

Don't go revealing my kryptonite.

And let it be known, hugs from bare chested women will get me to sit down, but mini-me will then be standing up.

Don't be fooled by the mini-me moniker. He's about the size of Verne Troyer.

Lol! I can punt your mini-me 50 yards.

Its a damn football game!! Some of us drive many hours and spend much of our hard earned dollars to cheer on our vols. I don't view it as being a jerk if I like to stand and yell. This is absurd. I got kicked out of an opener several years ago for this very thing and it still pisses me off to this very day.

Its a football game. If you cant stand and cheer then give your seat up to someone who will.there are plenty of tv timeouts to sit back down and rest.

Nobody is saying to NEVER stand they're just saying you shouldn't be standing the entire game.

Sorry, but college football isn't supposed to be watched passively like golf or tennis. Fans should participate and, yes, STAND when their team scores or plays defense. This is an accepted social convention in every football stadium outside of Knoxville. Unless you have some kind of disability, when you ask somebody ahead of you to sit down at a college football game YOU'RE the one being rude.

If you want to watch the game on your ass, you're perfectly free to stay home. Sitters like you are the reason why Neyland Stadium isn't as loud as smaller capacity stadiums like Florida or LSU. How did our fan base get so soft that people are now complaining about fans standings at a football game??? Embarrassing!!!

Opinion: Football fan calls out 'standup guy'

Just something to think about

Also, this would indicate you're wrong about how acceptable of a convention it is to stand elsewhere.

I think most level-headed people understand you don't have to stand the entire game. I'm a jumper, I'm in and out of my seat the entire game. But if we are on defense or during a pivotal moment in the game, I'm standing, sorry dude behind me. Strange that this is such an issue.
Even stranger is the willingness of so many people in this thread to be completely subservient to any order or command a cop may give them, regardless of how absurd it may be. Cops have every right to enforce laws. But the idea that you must obey everything they demand is insanity. Must be the same folks that are cool with armored transports with .50 Cal's patrolling streets. /rant

Listen, all you guys may be tough by standing up to the police. But im 20, working and goin to school. Season tickets aint cheap for me! If the cop says bend over and assume the position, im not arguing! I cant afford to be removed from the stadium! :elephant:

I just think it's funny that some people think you have to stand to be loud. Not that I don't stand, because I do stand. On a bit of a separate note, it ticks me off when a fan yells at everyone to get loud, and his form of getting loud is clapping. Your clapping isn't going to cause of a delay of game.

PS...The Swamp and Death Valley aren't loud because people stand, they're loud because people scream. However, I'd rather have a fan base who is standing because the standers are more likely (not everyone) to be loud than the sitters. Just don't yell at me to stand up and make noise if you're standing and clapping.

Oh, and quit with the name calling...

Question why do ushers act like I'm killing some when smoking a vapor cig? Blowing off stadium sides. I was told once and he said if I see you again I will have police escort you out of stadium....

I think because the Stadium is a No Smoking zone iirc.
It's super simple. Smoke before you go to the stadium, watch the game without smoking, and then smoke after you leave the stadium. At least I think that's how it works.

Vapor being the key word here. It's not smoke.

What irks me the most is the willful docuhery from the "Must-standers". If someone behind you politely asks you to sit down because they can not see and you say no, then that is just pretty damn rude and inconsiderate. They came to watch the game too. Not the backside of your pants.

What's "docuhery" is not realizing the seats are on an incline for a reason.

Maybe you would consider selling your ticket to a less lazy more excited VFL.

Thanks for your consideration.

It's truly amazing the number of posters here who are responding to something never stated. No one said don't stand up at kickoffs, on defense, on big plays, when things are tense. That's what I do, and I have never had anyone complain, nor have I ever complained about anyone else doing this. It keeps the excitement going in the crowd.

It's the people who stand the whole damn game. And they often have their little friends who do the same, so there's a solid wall of jeans in front of your nose for 2 1/2 hours, longer for TV games of course.

Again, if you want to stand for extended periods of time, go join the rail birds at to top of the sections and let the folks behind you have a break. This ain't rocket science.

Hmmm.

the seats are there to sit in not every1 wants or cant stand the whole game, there is no respect for others anymore

Respect is not in the vocabulary of many posters on this board and many of our students and younger generation. The actions of these children are a reflection of the parenting.

We have been sitting in section E for decades and more of those seats have been converted to students. For some reason students like to stand on the bleachers. Years ago, the guy in front of us might ask students to sit down but now it's so wide spread, we all just stand up when we need to see the field better. Frankly, I would rather have the students support the Vols rather than create bad feelings by nagging them to sit down.

So you're telling me I'm wrong i didn't stand everywhere? I've never set in an opposing teams student section yet I've stood at 9 out of the 10 SEC stadiums I've been to plus OU, Cocktail Party and Clemson/Bama Chick-Fil-A kickoff. Most of those games were buying an opponent, season ticket holders extras and sitting with them.

I hope I end up standing in front of your lame ass one day.

That's fine. You will get some **** spilled on you though. Stuff just happens

Where does it say don't stand?

Where does it say don't sit?

Just as equally a dumb question.

Apparently you weren't raised properly. It's common courtesy. It's respectful to think of others. It's just being a good human. Sit down and watch the game. Stand when appropriate and necessary.

But to stand for up to 4 hours straight is beyond being rude, it's flat out crazy.

Go be an user if you wanna stand the whole damn game.

Out of 102,000+, 101,800+ agree with me.

There aren't as many of you as you think. There really isn't. Really a small faction, just a really hated one.

maybe they can create an old folks section in neyland with recliners and ear phones so fans can take a nap during the slow parts of games---can they serve warm milk at halftime?

Same reason no umbrella in the stadium.
