'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

Per Hubbs

It starts with the lone official visitor expected in this weekend, Darrin Kirkland Jr.. The Indianapolis, Ind., linebacker, who was once committed to Michigan, has been very interested in Tennessee since he and the Wolverines parted ways. Now, Tennessee's has made him a top priority with the Tennessee and Cecil Cherry almost assuredly parting ways.

Tennessee was a team that Kirkland Jr. was very interested even before he decommitted from Michigan but at that point the Vols weren't sure they could take another linebacker. But, with Cherry taking an official visit to Texas the Vols used that opportunity to get back in on Kirkland Jr. and now they see him as a priority.

This will be a big weekend as Kirkland Jr. is bringing down the whole family and the feeling is the Vols could have a chance to really surge ahead right now. Oklahoma and Ole Miss are both real contenders and most have believed they were the two teams to beat, but Tennessee, who Kirkland Jr. has longstanding relationships with, is poised to be a team to really watch here.

Any chance we told Kirkland "no" back in the summer when he decided, since we had Cherry committed for so long and didn't want another Mike?

Good question.

If I had to say, I would guess that he just chose Michigan over us. Would be difficult to see him contacting us prior to his decommitment if we had already told him no during the summer.

Could be. He may have gotten the dreaded "not yet" and then chose Michigan. Maybe the "not yet" had him still holding out hope and when Cherry decided to take some trips, Kirkland to UT was meant to be.

Bringing his whole crew down and we are struggling to even get tickets for this game sold following the quietest crowd this season last week. Man that sucks.

That is on UT. Requesting a night game in late November and expecting a sellout is insane. The fans had to suffer with the day games in hot early September and now they expect them to sit in the freezing cold iat night in late November. Go figure.

I'd rather have a night game regardless of the time of year. I think the time of year is more a factor than the cold. Holidays are closing in and a lot of Vol fans are having to budget a bowl game into their plans as well.

Layer up. Liquor up. Show up. And Stand up.

We put on a show and the droves in the stands are oblivious to the frost bite. This ain't the deep south, we should be prepared. I know half of our fans either duck or deer hunt so I know we have the gear LOL.

So when Kirkland was committed to Michigan, the travel from Indianapolis to Ann Arbor was 4.5 hours. The travel from Indianapolis to Knoxville is 5.5 hours, whereas the travel from Indianapolis to Oxford is 8.5 hours.

Vol, Butches.

A smokey grey shuffles his feet in the stands uncomfortably

What??!! It's not any crazier going to a night game when it's cold, than going to a day game when it's 100. As a matter of fact, I would prefer the cold, because you can add layers and stay warm. You can only take off so much when it's hot.

The temperature is only going to be around the mid 40s during the game with no wind. I hope that the reason we are not selling tickets to this game is not the weather. If so, we have a bunch of pansies for fans. Man up, buy tickets, and go support this team in the last home game this year with bowl eligibility on the line.

No wind is huge. I was at the USC game. The temp was fine, but the wind made it miserable.

Always remember your 3 L's and S before each and every game.......:hi:

That is some serious over analysis...He and his family will get a good idea of the unique game day atmosphere of Tennessee football and probably have a very good time watching what should be a close and exciting game with a lot at stake for both teams.

I think It has more to do with TV then UTs preference

Cold isn't the reason most will not show up. A lot of travel coming up for several people for Thanksgiving and budgeting for Christmas. If you're not from the Kville area these game trips get expensive.
