'15 IN LB Darrin Kirkland Jr (UT Commit 12/15/14)

Cherry even knows about Kirkland. Said something like, go get that other linebacker in his last tweet..

Awkward....

I don't think it is as critical as people think...

Thigpen said last night that MLB is by far the hardest position to play on defense. I think he even said something to the effect of, "you ask anyone on the football team which job they DON'T want, it's 'Mike'..." You don't throw just anyone into that position, even if they have all the physical skills in the world.

I'll go with Thig's judgment on just how critical this position is.

There are a lot or studs that don't have the mental side of things to run the system. Like center and QB it takes a whole second skill set to excel.

Uhm.

1) It is THE most critical position on the field for this defense- in terms of responsibilities and making plays.

2) Me and the other poster were talking about recruiting talent for the position. Which I then stated wasn't so "critical" because we have athletic, cerebral guys that can play like Bates and Maybin. And I think J Johnson can too.

You took my statement out of context.

but have a good day. :hi:

Texas probably wants him ove Cecil too. USC is always a strong visit. Just hope he loves it here and pulls the trigger!

Distance is a huge factor for the parents. That is why it was between TN and Michigan the first time around. I cant see it being TX, OU or USC when all is said and done.

No, I knew that's what you meant. My point is that, like many of the positions on our team, we are forced to be playing a true freshman in this position when the starter is unable to play. To me, that makes it a position that is critical to fill in this cycle.

All Vol, and is already a silent IMO.

If he cancels the TX/USC trips coming out of the weekend, I think he is. He takes those trips and IMO there is no reason to call him a silent at that point. If taking a trip to TX cost Cherry his spot, I doubt CBJ takes Kirkland's commitment and then sits back while he takes a trip to TX. JMO

The TX trip is really interesting all the way around with them having Cherry committed.

Its almost a 12 hour drive to Norman.
Its a 5 hour drive to Knoxville.
So yes Tennessee is much closer.

Yeah huge difference when you figure that is 14 more hours of drive time on any give weekend.

If anyone is a threat I would think it would be Ole Miss, but that is still a good 6-7 hours more travel time each weekend compared to Indy from Knoxville.

I'm still not counting Cherry a TX commit. Yes, I know all signs point to that playing out. I look at it and ask myself with it being VERY clear that Cherry has moved on from our Vols, why not just de-commit and announce for TX? Why the talk of waiting till NSD? Is Mr. Cherry sure that TX is going to take him or are they putting him on hold till closer to NSD? TX has won 4 out of their last 5 I think. If they win another game or 2 and another MLB possibly an instate kid wants to commit, does Cherry lose that spot? IMO Cherry waiting till NSD(if it is his choice) could end up somewhere other than TX or TN.

Agree. He may very well be a take for TX but considering they just started pursuing him after missing out of several LB prospects, he very well may not be at this point. They could have brought him in as a plan B in case they don't get back in on some of those guys they missed out on earlier. I wont be surprised at all either if he doesn't end up at TN or TX.

This is why I STFU if I'm Cherry. I mean you're painting yourself into a corner with all that negativity. Of course that hasn't mattered in the past to the staff.
