:hi: Wish you would post a lot more. You have a better perspective than most.i am amazed at how many people that support our program are naive enough to think we do not have the foundation to be successful in the future (competing for Championships). Take a moment and consider teams like Nebraska, Miami and Texas who have had to compensate for the impact of some of the same challenges we are currently experiencing.
I was a scholarship athlete a UT (not football) and I also lived in Alabama for a couple of years, so I despise them.
To my point, however, some posters get on this board and spout opinions like they are the incarnation of Vince Lombardi except it is all after the fact, armchair quarterbacking.
Am I ever satisfied to lose, no, but it has taken us years to deteriorate to this point. Thankfully, very few of the guys on the team ever read this board. Unfortunately, the recruits do and the tone our fans sometimes exhibit on here demonstrate how fickle we can be with our players and our coaches.
What irritates me the most are the people who are down on Butch on this board and often times on 18 and 19 year old kids, but I would say the vast majority of these naysayers haven't dripped an ounce of sweat or blood for our school. The conference continues to get tougher every year, not whining just stating a fact.
In case anyone wishes to torch me for my comments, I have put my money where my mouth is. I contribute the value of my scholarship back to UT every year.
I gave and continue to give my all for Tennessee.
Coaches know more about our team than we do. All I'm saying.
This thread has gotten hilarious! Some obviously only ready half of what I said and criticized me for the wrong reasons, some misinterpreted what I said completely and went in the other direction, some criticized me because it wasn't in proper thesis and punctuation form and that is all they got out of it, and now most are getting into a pissing match on whether Peterman either broke his thumb or his hand.... Ahhh, Volnation is the best... its like crack or a train wreck--- you don't want to look and try and pass it by but you just can't help yourself and take a taste or a peak and the next thing you know you are at full stare drooling out of the side of your mouth!
Cliff notes--- I simply tried to state that I was surpised at how Butch did not give Dobbs really any praise after the game and seemed to only point out his flaws, all along saying he added a new dimension to the offense which we needed. He said basically it was practice as usual Monday and nothing had changed and I questioned whether it was coach speak or not... I think he should start and gives us the best option to finish the season strong enough to bowl and I think the coaches see this and the players do too. I love Worley, but at this point in the season he is unfortunately not the answer with our current O line situation. Dobbs isn't perfect and will make mistakes but is definitely the lesser of two evils because he moves the chains and scores points....
Of course they do....But we do have the ability to observe the product THEY, from their extensive and more complete knowledge of the team--put forth on the field....
And it's OBVIOUS that team #118 is better served and has a MUCH BETTER opportunity to WIN games when Dobbs is on the field! :salute:
If you can't see that--nothing left to say....
Dobbs did great and deserves to start sat. But he was far from perfect, fumbe cost us 7 points, missed easy TD to north cost 4 more. Ovethrew pig on sure TD. While we wouldn't have been in game w/o home could haveshocked the world if he had made all the plays a sec qb should.
Yeah...with Dobbs we scored 20 points against BAMA--that's more points on the board in 3 QTRS than we put up with Worley in 2 SEC games (Fla and Miss) combined!
It's ain't rocket science, is it?
Is it really still a competition to see who's our BEST QB that gives us the best chance to win with this young and inexperienced OL???? Mindboggling.....
Sheep.
Wolf dropped 2 out of 3 ball thrown to him.I think that CBJ is just laying out coachspeak....don't think he was overly critical of Dobbs....
What else do we expect him to say? He's the one who has to lead those players.....I don't....I have the luxury of running my mouth on the message board....
Nevertheless--it will be a HUGE disappointment if Dobbs doesn't start the remaining games this year...regardless of Worley's physical status....
I would like us to incorporate the bootleg into our playbook....it's obvious that Bajakian doesn't know what it is--or doesn't think it's consistent with his offensive system...and that throw to 48 (TE, Ellis) that went for 20-something yards was OPEN ALL NIGHT!!! Why didn't they run it again??????? TEs STILL being underutilized in this offense......and is CROOM in the doghouse??? Injured??? He's a match-up nightmare for ANYONE...
GO VOLSL! :salute:
You should be ashamed...but that requires a conscience.
You have no argument.
Exactly! There is a reason and for the life of me I can't understand why that is so hard to understand. All we hear on this site is how good CBJ is etc. and so on and any criticism is viewed as simply negative. Yet, all these same people that want Dobbs to be the answer cannot trust in the fact that CBJ and staff have a reason.
You can't have it both ways.
None of you that are questioning the reasoning behind not wanting to play Dobbs have even the remotest of abilities to evaluate talent where it actually matters. Period.
The reason they do not want to play him right now will reveal itself at some point.
No. I just have facts. Like one kid who has EARNED more playing time AND in that playing time is completing in the high 50% range... then another who wilts under the pressure and has a career completion % of under 50% to include mop up. Compared to your blather, we have the fact that Jones gave Peterman a couple of series, saw him be ineffective again, handed the ball to Dobbs,... and never looked back. During the remainder of the game, not once was there any indication that Peterman might come back in.
Do you know why? Because Jones full well realizes who the better players is. It is apparent to ANY and EVERY one with an IQ above 50 that the only reason Dobbs wasn't Worley's back up is that they were trying to RS him.
Yeah...with Dobbs we scored 20 points against BAMA--that's more points on the board in 3 QTRS than we put up with Worley in 2 SEC games (Fla and Miss) combined!

This. Dobbs is the man and he should say so. These guys aren't babies, they are college athletes. The best man plays. They have all been given equal opportunities to show what they have. If the guy isn't good enough to start, then so be it. He gets a free education to stand on the sidelines. Waaaaaaaaa. Jones needs to stop sugar coating sh$t. There is absolutely no competition here. Dobbs moved the ball pretty well against a solid defense. Obviously can run the ball and made some solid throws. He just needs some game time. Needs reps to settle in. If someone had shot Cooper before the game we could have easily won that game. Dude is unguardable.
I just watched the post-game presser and I have to say I am not sure what was going on with Butch..... For me, I just saw the first "chink" in his armor....Maybe its just me, but it was almost like he didn't want to give Dobbs any praise above or beyond regular "coach speak".... I know he has two other QBs to worry about and Worley is a battle-tested senior, but it was almost like he didn't want to hurt their feelings by giving Dobbs any praise.... he even went into detail on the negatives in Dobbs performance... Wonder if it was the simple fact that he and everyone else could see what a "gamer" Dobbs is for this offense and what a big mistake he and his staff have made up until this point by not playing him.... The funny part was when he kept saying "Josh adds another element to our offense".... REALLY, you don't say, no Sh@$!? It is exactly what this offense has been lacking and probably the reason we are 3-5 instead of 4-4 or 5-3.... He then says "it will be another week of competitive practice to see who is ready!" Really? We are going to just go into practice this week and act like this didn't happen Saturday night? I sure hope to hell that was more coach speak so that USCe does not necessarily count on or fully prepare for Dobbs....
Hope CBJ was just in a little bit of shock (like most of us were) at what he just saw and was just trying to find the right words to be politically correct during the presser....
Let me be clear before I get bashed---
Worley has done an incredible job this year for us and is tough as nails, and Dobbs made plenty of mistakes last night and has plenty of room for improvement... but it is clear that some are great in practice(Peterman) and suck during the game, and others are "gamers" who are descent in practice, but are extremely competitive and can turn in on and ball under the lights.... Who knows, Dobbs might have been going through the motions at practice if he was told he was red-shirting and was thinking about Aero-space labs and not what he could do to start.....
Either way, this staff has an obligation to the players and the university to grind out the rest of this season and put the best players on the field to finish as strong as possible. These kids have worked too hard to go back to what was NOT working....
