Ha ha. If this your attitude I will be interested to see how you handle Tyndall's first season at the helm for basketball.

In the end, I'm not a coach, I'm a fan. Coaches are the ones who shouldn't accept losing, shouldn't accept excuses, and shouldn't be satisified with moral victories. Seems clear to me CBJ doesn't accept any of these things.

That said, our roster issues (right now) are a pretty rational explanation for our record. So as a fan, I can accept the present circumstances somewhat because I'm seeing the improvement year over year Dooley (for example) never showed.

Dooley got worse. We are clearly getting better. Anybody who argues that we aren't is a damned fool. I'm looking at the positives because I'm not able to change anything negative but my attitude. And I'm changing that. Instead of sitting in my seat worrying about how we'll screw it up, this year I'm watching for a sack, a pick, a touchdown. I'm not waiting for something terrible, I'm anticipating something positive. And, best of all, I'm seeing it. Very soon that will translate to wins against the *******s I really want to beat. It's getting better and I can't wait!

Well said. :good!:

3 things that stuck out to me about last nights game

1. Dobbs played really well (pretty obvious I know). But, he would have played even better if he hadn't missed Wolf down the middle a couple of times and hit North for a TD on the slant. It's the little things that were just a tad off and they will get better with practice.

2. One thing I was VERY pleased with was when Dobbs was pressured and had to roll out he has the awareness to THROW THE BALL AWAY....something that unfortunately alludes the other QBS. There were a couple of times he was able to throw it away, but in previous weeks it would have been a 7 yard sack.

3. Blake Sims was the difference in that game. I know Cooper had 4,000 yds receiving in the first quarter, but Sims ability to keep drives alive with his legs in the second half was the difference. I think if TN is able to get off the field on 3rd down (and BTW, Bama is 4th in the country in 3rd Down Conversions so they don't suck) a couple of times early in the 4th it would have made Bama nervous, but they didn't and them's the breaks.

Overall, I am pretty proud of this team for having the stones to fight back after getting bombed in the first quarter.

I don't get why nobody publicly acknowledges that people are pissed that Kiffin left after one season, in the middle of the night, after a pitiful press conference, ignored the traditions and identity of the program while he was here, and then tried to poach a bunch of our recruits. It's nothing to do with the promise he showed, it was the utter disrespect that he showed to one of the more storied college football programs and a fan base that supported him.

That said, Saban is classier than Will Muschamp.
That's really not hard to do, be classier that Musturd.

I also think Dobbs gives us the ability to speed up the offense. I thought they played faster last night. I would have thought the opposite considering this was his first game this year.

Hurd was definitely doing fine but Alabama is keying run there no matter whose in the backfield. The only way to fool them was a play action pass. At least with the beast package we have another blocker. Still surprised me when I saw it happen.

I think we tried a few passes to the end zone later but they were just misfires.

The problem I had with it is you telegraphed the play. The second AJ stood back there, everyone knew where the ball was going. That made it a match up of our o-line against their defensive front. Ee were never winning that match up, never.

I know nothing's ever 100%, but isn't that true with just about all wildcat formations?

And in some cases, that's the point. As in, "we fixin' to run it, try an' stop us". I don't think we would or should ever do that with our current line situation, but by nature that is what the wildcat is.

Last night was the first game all year that I was not jacked up for before the game started...starting QB out, 2 OL out (turned out for the best), still missing one of our better WRs, starting RB and back up banged up, and a lot of the team battling a stomach bug...knew it set up for a potential disaster. I was right for the 1st quarter and a piece. To start off 27-0 down, and battle back to make it 27-17 speaks volumes about the character of this team...VOLUMES!

Now, get a little healthier this week and go on the road in a hostile environment, and win! With Dobbs I think the defense now knows that they don't have to play perfect, which will hopefully help them play even better. If we can win on the road this week, then get healthy with a bye, I really believe this team can win out. Call me crazy...but, we have to win this week. I think it will be too much pressure with a young team feeling they need to win out to make a bowl.

You are correct but some times you will see a team throw out of it, and sometimes you'll have a guy back there that's a little quicker and shiftier than AJ making an outside run a possibility. With AJ, it's a run up the middle for sure. That puts the Bama strength, their front seven, matched up with our weakness, our o-line. And, their front doesn't have to think, just go to the ball.

Two of the passes to wolf were drops. One was a little high but very catchable. TD throw to North was bad.

I definitely agree about the quickness and shiftiness part. I don't necessarily think it was the best option, but it seems to have worked ok in the past. Actually, I don't ever really recall it not working in short yardage. I also don't remember us running it at all under this regime, so I wonder why now?

If it had fired a little quicker, we may have caught them somewaht off guard. But the way it played out, you're dead on about them not really having to think a lot about it.

On the dubious Non-Beast decision you go with what you know. You know Bama is giving up 65 yards a game rushing coming in to Neyland. You know you are behind 27-7 and Cooper is having a record day. You know you have moved the ball down the field with time and TO's left to score a TD and give your team a huge lift before halftime - just 2 scores down. You do not telegraph a play like that. Trust the guys that have led your team back to this point. Then after making the bad play call, you compound it by telling your team they are not good enough to make a yard when with the real playmakers back in the game. So you kick a FG to remain 3 scores down at half time. C'mon folks, defend Butch all you want, but the rest of the nation, the announcers, and rational UT fans know the truth.

It should serve as a wake-up call to Butch and staff. Obvious errors were made in the game plan and play calling on both sides of the ball. Grow from it is all we ask. We knew this was a Big East level staff when they came in with the exception of Jancek, Martinez, Gillespie and Thig. They are doing some great things as well. However, not assigning Sutton to Cooper was a huge game planning mistake - we all knew it and many said it before the game. That's on the coaches that should know better including Butch. Not playing a QB that can run this offense the best despite not yet having full control of the passing game, while telling the fan base he was the third best option was a huge mistake. Not playing the right O-lineman in the positions they play the best, while having two true freshmen playing on the same side was a huge mistake. It cost the UF game and possibly others. All three of those mistakes were proven last night. Now fix it the right way the rest of the season and get better. W's matter to the program and they are more important than a perception of process.

I still believe Butch can get it done.

I would have liked to have seen Dobbs on a roll out with a run/pass option.

I disagree with you on the field goal decision. The risk of getting nothing there far exceeded to reward of getting the first down and a potential shot at a touchdown. 3 points was the right call to give the team some confidence and momentum heading into the lockerroom.

I think Butch had a plan and it was working pretty much as they expected until the FL game and they've been slow to react to it.

I agree with this, mostly. Arguments can be made either way, but with Bama getting the ball first in the 2nd half (shocker, right?) and the potential confidence damage by not making it after we've just had two of our most successful drives in over a month, I'm perfectly fine with taking the points. Not discounting the talking heads' opinions of "nothing to lose", but they are after all only opinions. Like ours.

Just happy to see a game where the OL and the QB played with a pulse.

So what happens when M Jackson and C Thomas are ready to play again? Personally I wouldn't hate if Thomas stays second string for the rest of the year.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure I am either. But I'm very big believer that when coaches are working with a roster with as many problems as ours still has, you gotta give them time before judging. I think people on here are getting a bit ridiculous. I endured the Dooley years on this board but if that level of consistent negativity begins festering here again before CBJ had finished two years I'm going to have to quit this board for a while. It's completely irrational.

Keep bringing the truth. I have been thinking this same thing for 3-4 weeks.

Nice little stat for Dobbs.

"However, the most impressive part of his game, third down. He was 7 of 10 on third down all 7 completions were conversions. Five conversions and 2 touchdowns. He had 3 conversions with his feet as well."
