Thats what happens when you're living right. All we can rely on is anecdotal information. If I were ever to look for non aneccdotal information I'm sure I could find it, but I like my life and community. Socialist and all... Reminds me, I'm going over to my neighbors to get some sugar, through their unlocked door.
Thats great. Hope you never need your community to help you. Actually, I take that back. I hope that nothing ever happens that would require someone in your community to help you who practices your line of thinking.
If you're not a criminal and a LEO is questioning you, you should be asking: How can I help you...?
There is plenty of anecdotal evidence of innocent people talking to police and then being turned into a suspect and brow beaten into a false confession just to stop the interrogation. But since you don't know anybody it has ever happened to personally, we should just not worry about it ever happening to us.
Talking to the police can NEVER help you. You stand nothing to gain and everything to lose by speaking to the police. Even if it's good for me, it can't be used for me. And nothing like that will ever happen to me. I can take care of myself and my family. Moreover, all the people I know -- the good, taxpaying, law abiding -- practice my line of thinking because they're educated on the law and their rights. In my opinion, you'd have to be an abject moron to ever talk to a cop. And this is coming from someone who's 34 years old with a spotless record.
This video is one of the most important videos any citizen could watch:

If you're not a suspect then let him know you're not. How else is he not going to know? Now if you are the suspect then by all means stop talking.
You realize of course that this video exists because it is absolutely awful right? I mean where are the videos of the other million or so interactions (daily) that do not end up like this? It is literally easier to win the lottery twice than to have this happen to you. I hope this guy gets the equivilent of winning the lottery twice and I didnt even watch the video. I'll take your word for it.

The sad truth Tim is even though these bad officers are an extreme minority and none of us have probably ever had to deal with these atrocities (no offense hog but a condensending 20 year old probably fresh out of the Academy doesn't count as an atrocity) but the mere fact that this happens has marred people's views of law enforcement. Being that I see officers on an almost daily basis, my view of them is admittingly highly different from someone who only interacts with them when they blow a stop sign or speed.
Sure, it has happened and will probably happen again, but your fear borders on paranoia. Do you drive on the roads? Are you in fear of death via collision? Do you know anyone who has been killed in a car crash? If so I'm sorry. My point is obvious, but really.... It's over the top dude.

That wasn't all right. He should've never had his firearm removed. He wasn't breaking any laws by open carrying.
