Drastic action needed on Ebola

The reason it is spreading so badly over there is because of some people acting crazy. There are people over there who are putting dead bodies in the street instead of burying. The strange thing is for all that has happened, the disease is fairly localized. Blows a huge hole in the Ebola is airborne theory.

Yes there are not nearly enough physicians to help over there. What I don't get is why people are totally freaking out about things happening here in the US.

I appreciate your opinion, but I think you are trying to down play this a little too much.

This stuff is spreading like wild fire.

It is but it is not widespread in Africa. It could wind up being that way but not at this point.

It is NOT airborne. It has not spread outside of Africa yet. It's not spreading as fast as you think.

Don't get me wrong, it's a bad outbreak and because of the limited resources of the arrears affected, it's going yo take awhile to control. Also the African people are going to have to stop acting idiotic and start following instructions. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Africa is not doing their part to halt the spread of the virus. From a CBC news article: "Isaacs of Samaritan's Purse said that a huge problem will be persuading African communities to abandon the traditional practice of washing the body and kissing the corpse immediately after death, when the body is most infectious. He said aid workers have been attacked when trying to intervene, and that some physicians in Liberia even mocked the existence of the Ebola virus, shunning protection around patients."

"Frieden said it is possible to stop the outbreak in West Africa using tried-and-true public health measures: find and isolate all possible patients, track down everyone they could have exposed, educate the public about risks and ensure health workers follow proper infection control. The virus is spread through direct contact with the bodily fluids of someone who is sick."

Because people are not educated....

Like I said earlier, they still would rather go to the local witch doctor over a trained medical doctor.

Witch doctor or no witch doctor. My statements are true either way, you are providing the excuse why is spreading.

It will continue to do so. Like BOT said, it will get worse before it gets better.

No I'm providing a reason why it's spreading and I've never denied that it's going to get worse before the outbreak is finally contained and burns itself out. The mass hysteria by Americans over bringing the doctors back and such is not needed.

Your last sentence is what all the talking heads have been saying on the cable news shows. Once it gets here to America they can shut down the virus quickly & have it under control without spreading.

You are willing to risk lives on an assumption. I'm not. Maybe you should kick Ukraine to the curb and worry about a potential epidemic...

Did you watch the video?

I'm just going to assume I have ebola and quarantine myself. Somebody bring me sammich. I aint movin.

You may be prepared to let Americans die in a third-world country but I'm not. Their odds of survival are greater here in the states than in some African hospital. I am not all all concerned about an ebola outbreak here in the US and neither should you.

I think this Ebola thing might be more of a concern than I originally thought. All of the talking head healthcare guys were out initially talking this down. The more I think about it the more concerned I get.

Interesting Vice News take;

The fact that some people actually deny Ebola exists is scary.

It's in Canada and Greece now. Isolated. But there.

Great news. When I read on it, he was being treated as such, and had symptoms. Great news though. Thanks for the update.

I thought so too. I don't want this thing spreading anywhere else. I read a little while ago that Nigerias president is allocation 20 million dollars to help with the outbreak. Hopefully that will help with getting everything under control.

The US/CDC should put together a video package explaining what must be done, and what must be avoided. If the Africans (or any other area if the outbreak spreads) decline to follow direction, allow natural selection to take its course. If the majority of the continent wants to remain a 3rd world, allow them to sleep in the bed they have chosen to make.

The fact that some people actually deny Ebola exists is scary.

No different than the morons who denied the existence of AIDS. An attempt should be made to educate those who deny it, but if they refuse to learn, protect yourself and force them to face the repercussions of their action (or inaction).

I am all for the US helping when it can on a global scale, especially when dealing with disease, genocide, or assisting with a 3rd world nation in catching up to the more advanced world; but we must stop forcing our help on those who obviously do not want it. I would rather us back off, secure our own borders, effectively quarantine the affected area, and focus on our many domestic problems for a while.

I thought I might have contracted Ebola after watching Guardians of the Galaxy (awesome movie) in a packed theater but then I realized I had eaten lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings.
