Drastic action needed on Ebola

Ebola Patient Dr. Kent Brantly Says 'God Saved My Life' - ABC News

Dr. Brantly and Nancy Writebol have been deemed cured of ebola and allowed to return to their families. Seems to me ZMapp is working so far which is great news to hear.

The fact that both of the patients made it through is very promising news. Those two will assuredly be in some sort of historical medical journal. I wonder how much of the healing came from ZMapp and how much came from supportive care?

Things looking worse in West Africa: World Health Organization: Why the Ebola Outbreak has been Underestimated

"In parts of Liberia, a phenomenon is occurring that has never before been seen in an Ebola outbreak. As soon as a new treatment facility is opened, it is immediately filled with patients, many of whom were not previously identified - suggesting the existence of an invisible caseload of patients.

For example in Monrovia, Liberia's capital, an Ebola treatment centre with 20 beds, which opened last week, was immediately overwhelmed with more than 70 patients."

And a recent tweet: "@mpoppel: WHO says all health services in Liberia's capital have been shut down, leaving residents without any form of health care"

Ebola is not as easily transmitted as you think.

I think one of the worries that we aren't hearing about is the fear of a weaponozed strain. The ISIS group wanted to exchange that beheaded reporter for a lady we have in prison in the US. She has a doctorate from MIT and something she worked on was weaponozed Ebola. Someone is going to get it out there and use as a bio-terrorism tool at some point.

Since some of the African population are acting stupid this is what it has come to. It's terrible but I cannot say I disagree with it. It may be what it takes to get things under control.

Ebola fall-out: Liberia resorts to sealing off 'plague villages' - Liberty Unyielding

As I have said before, it's going to get worse before it gets better. Especially since there are African people who still refuse to believe Ebola exist and are impeding progress.

Also about the weaponizing Ebola it's extremely complicated.

I have said it will get worse before it gets better. I just refuse to get freaked out when there is really no need to. It is a tragedy but I have faith in the scientific and healthcare community that they will prevail. Plus it helps to have a best friend who is a board certified infectious disease specialist who can calm your nerves :).

Just have some faith Ob :good!:

Check out this story: Ebola alert, hospitals stand by as planes with Indians from Liberia land in Mumbai | The Indian Express

Looks like they're flying 112 people "suspected to have been exposed to the Ebola virus" right into India. Good Lord, if Ebola breaks loose in India, watch out. A billion+ people there. And how about this from the article:

“The passengers will be screened at the step ladder itself. Those without symptoms will be cleared,” said an airport spokesperson.

Are the people in charge of this thing idiots? Doesn't the disease have an incubation period of up to 21 days? So, no symptoms showing after the flight, go on your merry way and hope you don't come down with it in a couple of weeks?

We're more worried about the rise of TB cases in california. Over one hundred people have contracted it at Grant HS, where Dante Stallworth went.

All the antibiotics required to heal TB are not working anymore. Its becoming resistent to vacomyacin, one of the most toxic antibiotics.

Now this IS something we here in America need to be concerned with.

Not to be inhumane but India could use a good population thinning.

These are the antibiotics typically used for TB treatment. A patient may require one or more of them however.
Isoniazid
Rifampin (Rifadin, Rimactane)
Ethambutol (Myambutol)
Pyrazinamide
