'15 TN DE Kyle Phillips (UT commit 1/3/15)

I am no insider...lol I am his first cousin the one who went on (UT tours with him) cousin. I will say we are in great shape with Kyle. I come on this site a lot and I read the message boards and I will have to say he does too. No worries here far as a commit. I just hope we have room since it seems we are filling the class up pretty fast.

If this is true, then I would love to see his name in the commits list very soon.

I would definitely be relaying your thoughts on the class filling up to Kyle. That being said, I think he's a take no matter when he decides to commit. IMO there's no reason to wait unless you aren't sure, and I think Kyle knows he's a VFL

Nothing is for certain. But I will say, our grandfather and I are wanting him in UT orange or gray for sure! But he has to do whats best for him. We put No pressure on him but plenty of pressure at the same time...lol

I think we (Vols!) are in great standings with him. But I wont say to much. He has other visit and other schools he likes a lot too and needs to visit. GO VOLS!

I don't expect Lovingwood's commitment to be a scholarship. Maybe a preferred walkon. Never seen a longsnapper take up a scholarship. We've always had walkon's fill that role.

There will probably be two or so others that drop off the list by NSD...so, I don't think there will be an issue with room

Butch tried the walk-on route with Horky last year and lost him last minute to a scholarship to OU. I doubt he let's that happen again. If you want a top 5-10 K/P/LS, it's going to take a scholarship to get them now a days. JMO Butch learned that last year. JMO

I don't think so. You can have local Knoxville kids, who don't get D1 offers to do that. It doesn't take an especially gifted player. Those scholarships means passing on a high impact player, in favor of a low impact one, and those (LS/ST) come a dime a dozen.

So why did Butch offer him a scholarship and take his commitment so early? Did Butch think he would have an issue filling the class with kids who were not a dime a dozen?

I just never understand the logic behind offering a kid a scholarship, taking his commitment, then taking it away unless he has done something negative to warrant it. 247 composite has 5 2015 LS's ranked. 4 of the 5 show as already committed "on scholarship" to TN, OSU, LSU, and Purdue. Obviously TN and CBJ is not the only big time school who sees the value in quality specialists.

Just a guess, but since he said Kyle reads the board, probably not. If he knows Kyle reads the board, he probably knows he's likely to see his posts. Again, just a guess, and JMO.

I think they are using that scholarship this year on Lovingood. Evan Woodbury answered some questions for a friend of mine, and he said the staff decided to offer one and learned a lesson after losing Horky. I agree that we may lose one or two at the end, but I don't believe it will be Lovingood.
