I don't believe this is the case anymore. I completely agree with LV on this one. Dormady showed up early for his visit, stayed 2 days longer than expected to show out for Gruden and the coaches, and earned his spot. I think the coaches like how he fits in the system better and that he's a better pure passer. Maybe he was 1b and when TG was pushed to commit and wouldn't, then Butch welcomed QD to the class.

.

Plus this gives credence to coach speak next year when the coaches tell kids to "come to a camp, ball out and earn a offer".

So if you were the coach Dormady would be well advised to ask if you planned on adding a 3rd QB to the class.
You see this is what I don't understand, either you're the man or you aren't. Competition shouldn't scare any of them because no major college team is going to give you the position regardless. It doesn't matter if you are in a class of one QB or three, if you suck you will be recruited over, if you're good you will be the man. We have no real QB entrenched at the position currently. Either of these three could although unlikely push for playing time as a freshman. Not many other programs have a situation like that.

I've said it since Dormady took the last QB spot for 2015. All Gibson has to do is add 25LBS and he will be our TE for 2015. It's really as simple as that.

:eek:lol:

If you don't think depth charts and how many QBs a school takes in a year plays into recruiting then I don't know what to tell you. Yes, I get that as a random fan sitting on a message board you would like to think that the top 5 rated QBs in the country would all choose to go to your school and they would just nod and like it. It's just not reality. The phrase "we got our QB for this class" is one used a lot in recruiting. "We got our half dozen QBs", just does not have the same ring to it. JMO

Depth chart is the reason UT should be ahead of almost any other major program. Next year we will have Dobbs as starter and Peterman as backup.

How often do schools attempt to take 3 QBs in 1 class?

Very few kids with numerous options want to create the log ram themselves being part of a 3 QB class. It's just not normal.

We are not taking 3 QBs in this class. That would kill 2016 QB recruiting and it would also eat up space to take in players at other positions of need.

Again how often do schools find themselves with an abysmal depth chart at that position? I mean hopefully Dobbs is the guy but even that is uncertain (unlikely he beats out Worley this year). Then you have Peterman which I dare you to find a backup at another major school that would bring you less confidence than him if he were to be forced into playing.

I agree it's not normal but the situation we find ourselves in is not normal either.

Would be hilarious for us to sign TG and have his flock fight for him to keep his position ala Jalen Hurd. :)

Ok so CBJ is not going to keep recruiting the no 8 player in the country and top dt qb?Even though he is and has been the number 1 target this year. Makes perfect sense.

I agree with you.

The TG folks are doing their best to hold on though. It's alright, reality will set in at some point.

Yes, he may keep recruiting him. Just as he would any position that is full. It's a long way to NSD. IMO Jennings and Dormady stick, Gibson is going elsewhere.

You do not take 3 QBs in 2015(2 being projects and possible to switch positions) and then miss in 2016. Well you might. I doubt the UT coaches will.

Say we take all three. That means if QD doesn't win the job he backs up or transfers and one of the qbs you say are athletes moves positions to somewhere he could star and the other is a better qb than QD. That's a win. Say QD wins the job. He starts and both others may move positions where they may star or maybe one transfers. Thats a win also. Either way I don't think it stops us next year from getting a qb seeing two targets could switch positions or there could be a transfer. If they beat QD that means we have a great dt qb which is ideal for the o. If he get beats he wasn't the best and his transfer doesn't hurt us. If he beats both that means he is good and we have two 5 star athletes to move. So why is taking 3 qbs so bad this year?

I'm curious...

If QD was a Rivals 5.9 4*, was known to be a bright and capable young man with a well-regarded coach for a father, had the attributes of character that Butch claims (and has demonstrated) to recruit, and we won a long fought recruiting battle with Bama for his commitment...what would the likely response be?

And further, if in accepting his commitment we happen to pass on a highly athletic kid (but somewhat unproven as a QB), with some history of struggle with authority, we were not clearly his leader, and apparently couldn't get his commitment even though the clock was ticking...what would the likely response be?

The only thing missing is the Rivals rating...and I'd wager they are already nudging Rivals towards resolving that. This is dumb y'all. We got the right guy.

I don't know how Hurd got into this but are you saying that somehow he is not a RB after he dominated this spring? Just because we seem to have people come on here and say every recruit should play another position doesn't make them experts.

Try looking at this from TG's perspective gang. He now knows there are two QB commitments at UT. Why would he want to come? If he wanted to come to UT he would have committed previously before Dormady had a chance. He knows he fits at the Barn and told the world they were at the top. He visits other schools. He is playing the game and it is just like Adoree. Move on TG disciples. Your QB savior has forsaken you.

You still have to keep recruiting qbs because no one knows if QD's surgically repaired throwing shoulder will hold up through a season full of contact

Your missing a key point here. IF 1 or both of the "ATH" QBs switched positions, it would likely be too late to sign a 2016 QB. Consider that QB recruiting is just about done for 2015. All the top kids have just about decided. This time next year our 2015 QBs will just be starting out at UT. 2016 QB recruiting would be a lost cause. Once again, you can't take 3 in 2015.

Without a doubt. But TG isn't a savior any more than QD is the consolation prize many are suggesting. And this issue isn't unique to QB. Every position has a risk of losing guys to injury. Might have some reason that Butch likes to take 2 QBs.

You're not getting the gist of my comment...it would be worth taking TG just to see his fans fight the POSITION CHANGE denizens WE had to deal with last year.
