Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

Great points. There's ZERO evidence. The overwhelming majority on here just want a good, solid QB to win the job and go win games and never give their skin color a thought.

Evidently a few on here disagree with that statement. Go ask lexkyvol about any evidence....he's the one who started the race card talk.

A couple of names I want to throw out from UTs history:

Condredge Holloway
Jimmy Streater
Tony Robinson
Sterling Henton
Jerry Colquitt (Was expected to do big things his senior year before going down to a knee injury)
Tee Martin
Brent Schaffer(Had his shot and didn't take advantage)

None of those guys seemed to have a problem with the fans in the area. Sterling Henton has a radio show. Tony Robinson has been welcomed back with open arms even after his life struggles. While most of the fans got irritated when Tee turned down the opportunity to coach at UT, that was due to them wanting him back in the fold not the other way around. And personally I'm glad he stayed out west. And UT gave Holloway and Streater a chance to play the QB position before any other school in the SEC started a black QB. That's why when I hear this baseless nonsense it irritates me and makes me believe some people have to make race an issue to feel relevant.

It was a factor. Only an idiot or someone who thinks that way would deny it. Its not all or most who wanted RF . It is a factor for a portion of the most ardent anti Dobbs guys. If its not you great. But don't act like all our fans are unbiased.

Those trees ain't gonna hug themselves! :huggy:

Personally, I agree with almost all you said above. And would like to see this race stuff, disappear from the thread. However, if you're going to post about it, don't sugarcoat things. Vols fans throw things at Holloway's mom when displeased with his play. Which I believe went a bit south due to his injures at the time.
But this thread is about Ferguson's leaving and doesn't have FREAKING DAYUM thing to do with race. Take it somewhere else. the sewer comes to mind.

Of course there were problems during Holloway's time here. 1st black QB at a major university in the South on the heels of the civil rights movements in the 60s. Bear Bryant told Condredge up front that Bama wasn't going to use a black QB. Another fun trivia fact and I'll let this go and move on. Lester McClain was the first black athlete to play for an SEC school in the late 60s when he was admitted to the University of Tennessee in 1968. My point is a lot of people are fishing for controversy where one doesn't exist. And if anything, Tennessee's history suggests that the school is on the forefront of racial integration and not the other way around. And for people to say otherwise is a) wrong and b) shows their ignorance.

Doesn't matter what you said. Your opinion is just that, your opinion. It bears no additional weight. And I don't holler. I bite back and generally a lot harder than the original person's bite.

So you are a hit dog that feels that way?

And show you a thread. How about this thread? My issue with you is that you make something out of nothing and attempt to label people what they are not. Which tells me the race problem is with you not them. And that's a concept that seems to escape you. You feel anyone that challenges your agenda filled nonsense is racist. I have an issue with cyber numb skulls inappropriately labeling good people something they are not based on oversensitive feelings.

Another thing. I deal in what people can prove not what they think or make up to fit their argument. So I'd also like to see where you derive your statistics from that you talk about so definitively. Back up your comments. Or if not continue on your quest to be the message board race baiter. Because without facts that's all you really are.

What percentages? East Tn is 80% White. That is where most of our fans are from. It stands to reason we would have more biased White fans and posters than Black.

So you win either way. If you cry racist in a nice general, broad manner and no one responds to say "no, you're wrong", then you got away with it. On the other hand, if you cry racist and someone says "no, you're wrong, I'm not a racist, color has nothing to do with my decision or thought", then you get to act incredulous and ask "if you're not a racist then why are you acting all offended? Why are you acting guilty? You got something to hide?" That's the technique and it appears you have it down pat.

I hate the race card game.

I say something when posters say its not a problem. Some fans are racist. That is a fact. Sorry for pointing out the truth. If its not you don't take up for the ones who are.

The school brought in those players not the fans. Plenty of fans didn't like them.

The point remains I didn't start the talk. I did weigh in because people want to feign ignorance of a real problem. Its true. Some don't' like Dobbs for the reason of race. I didn't start the talk or bring it up but its true. People want to try the tactic of calling the person out that speaks up about it a racist or cry reverse racism. Not true. You just want to deflect the truth of things.

I was at U.T. when Lester arrived, but he wasn't first. Greg Page at Kentucky was the first black signed to an SEC team, but he died due to an injury suffered in practice, and never got the chance to play. Nat Northington, who was Page's friend at Kentucky was the first black to play in an SEC game against Ole Miss in 1968 I think.

I am thinking that Lester may have been a freshman then, which would have made him ineligible. I need to look that up, but Kentucky had the first black to play in a game.

Correction: Northington's first game was Sept. 30 1967 against Ole Miss. Lester's was Sept 14, 1968 against Georgia(I was there), so I was right on Northington being first, but I got my years mixed up. Lester was a freshman with me in 1967. He first played in 68 .

You go to ANY fanbase, and you'll find practitioners of racism...they're omnipresent...and insignificant!! They don't make OR INFLUENCE decisions...definitely not who our signal caller is. :glare: It's one thing to say you heard the N word at a game in Neyland...total plunge to assert that said mouth breather has Butch's ear...HUGE STRETCH!!!:gone:

So much failure in each and everyone of your posts, it's almost laughable. The sad part is you really believe you have your finger on the pulse of what is going on and don't have the slightest clue.

You keep saying 80% white. Back it up. Where did you get that percentage. Define East Tennessee. And even if that is an accurate percentage, that's such a lame argument. Because there happens to be more white people in the area by default of course that would be the case. A more accurate and telling stat would be what percentage of white people are prejudice toward black athlete's and vice versa if you could even produce a study to quantify such a result.

Same with the racist fan comment. Of course there are racist fans. You're one them apparently. And I don't believe in reverse racism either. That's a lame buzzword created by politician's to get people to argue among themselves. There is racism and that's it. And again you like to speak in truth. Truths are facts. Facts are backed by examples not what you think or feel. You have yet to provide one 'truth' in this thread. Your original claim is that the heartland racist wanted Riley to start over Dobbs because of skin color. Where's you proof? Up to this point there is no 'truth' I see in anything you are saying.

And yes the University which is funded by the state did admit those players. You know what that is? Proof that what you are claiming is a bunch of nonsense. I could go a step further and say that most people alive at the time would suggest that the University of Tennessee had one of the easiest transitions of integration of white and black students. People in the area being tolerant of the change had to play a role in some of that. And that's not to say it was a seemlessly smooth transition, but by all accounts it wasn't nowhere near as contentious as other areas in the South. And while you may not have been the initial poster that brought it up, it's almost like a bat signal goes off everytime something slightly resembling a race discussion turns up. I don't have to deflect anything. How am I deflecting. We are talking about what you want to right now. Do you even know what half of the words you use mean?

First black UT students, professor remember integration milestones » Knoxville News Sentinel

That's called a link. These are what are used to strengthen your position on a topic. Give it a try with your next response. I'll hang up listen.

And by the way, you have zero point with that dumb analogy. Keep trying though.

The point of my original response to you was not to take up for anybody. It was to call you on the BS you're peddling.

We all know people have their biases. There are prejudiced people in every society whether they are black or white, it cuts both ways. But there has been zero evidence in here of any poster stating they don't like Dobbs because he's black. And for you and lexkyvol to go off on this tangent and try to paint Tennesssee fans as racist ( or in your case giving the stat that 80% of East Tn is white "so of course there are racists who don't like Dobbs"), is wrong and irresponsible. That would be like me, without any specific examples, saying "Memphis is 65% black so of course there Memphis Grizzlies fans who are racists who don't like Marc Gasol". Without evidence, why would I do that? The answer is I wouldn't ...unless I'm just trying to stir ish up...which is what you and lexkyvol have done.

Ok SD. The fans brought the Black qbs here, not the coaches . Also there is not one single poster who doesnt like Black qbs.

Did I say that? You have a real bad habit of putting words in people's mouths. All I'm saying is that there's not always a grand conspiracy going on. And yes we have idiot fans who dislike someone because of skin color. But I would dare say, it's not just the race you claim it is. I believe both sides have a lot of personal growth that needs to be worked on. As evidenced by me having to refer to sides when the only difference is a skin color.

as expected, some totally missed my point. in the fanbase, some wanted fergy over dobbs due to race and not actual play. if you think that it didn't take place, then it's likely ur guilty because as i've stated many times before. nothing anywhere stated fergy was ever over dobbs from the coaching staff. NOTHING!

Please post your scientific findings of the study you conducted to come to this conclusion. I, probably like most people, wanted to see Ferguson after I saw Dobbs only to see how they each performed in a game. You've conjured this $h!+ up in your head and throw out there without one shred of evidence. Your "some" might be one or two...I would probably be far more accurate in saying 99% of us Vol fans just want a winner and just want to win. You know where you can stick that race card....

There has been a bit of racism at times over the years concerning the QB position that Ive witnessed (not necessarily in Dobbs' case), but it's a very small minority.

The old tattooed wonder resurfaces temporarily.

If any SEC school offers that moron a scholarship - their roster must be a total disaster. Riley Ferguson is a permanent child.

I also respect that Ferguson admitted he wishes he would've stayed and was immature.

Being turned down by an FCS school and falling to JUCO must be humbling. Hopefully he learned a valuable life lesson.
