Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

He is from Charlotte so the paper here keeps up with him. Uncc. Didn't want him so he went to coffeeville. Gators Bama and others are supposedly watching to see what he does this season before potentially offering him. We have gotten many good players from coffeeville over the years. I would rather have the stable of good quarter backs that we have than have riley. He is talented however and I fully expect him to play against us in the future. Our defense will be tough to perform against. GBO

The name Alvin Kamara ring a bell?

Sure...nowhere near the same situation...just manufactured ones from Tuscaloosa. Unless you're inferring that he tried to get into Georgia Southern and got turned down?

Poor Riley left the SEC's weakest qb competition, bails out of a D-1 scholarship, then gets shunned by hometown Charlotte and possibly FAMU. He details cars and reflects on his choices which lands him at Coffeyville for his final football opportunity. At any D-1 program, including Arkansas State, he will have to compete and demonstrate ability to lead a team. Keep this thread going and out of curiosity let's see what the "mature" detail-man does with his final chance for a future.

I think 90 days or so is a long time in Riley's world and I would not bet that he even reports back to his juco team for fall practice.

This is one of the strangest VN situations I've seen. When he was here everyone seemed to be in a consensus that he was some tattoo'd savior of our program. Nicknames like rifleman were flying left and right. His arm was all of a sudden the strongest in the history of the game, he was supposedly a very underrated runner, and you all figured him to have the most swagger on the team.

Kid never played a down.

Kid leaves and now the general consensus is that he's immature, flunked out, failed drug tests, couldn't hack it against our defense.

You guys flip flop more than John Kerry.

It's pretty simple really- the vast majority of posters on VN don't know @#$#.

Moses Collins

Why is this even a thread? Kid had potential..he didn't want to work at realizing that potential.. end of story. Lets move on

You do realize he did do something immature for people to have this opinion, right? People were excited about him before that, right? Regardless, can you point out any of the masses of posters who "flip flopped"?

How so?
Riley was highly touted, doing well and even had the coaching staff using his film to show recruits what we had. This caused excitement, people thought he would be great, which is normal. Then when he's not handed the spot, we hear he's not working hard, transfers and makes an immature, bad decision (which he admitted to). Then people are upset and say he won't make it with that attitude. Which is also normal.
This was not a situation where posters said a player was gonna be good while here, then transferred to another school just because he wanted to play somewhere else and now suddenly won't be good.

Before my time, but your correct. Our fanbase seems love the backups. BJ Coleman is another good example.

Moses Collins wasn't really a backup in the traditional sense. He was supposed to be a better version of Tony Robinson, but never materialized. If he ever did play a down for TN, it wasn't impressive or memorable.

Edit: he actually threw a TD in 1986 and another in 1987. I don't remember them. TN was only on TV a few times per year back then.

Kid always had a live arm. However, if you can't discern the improvement of going from Dooley to Butch then you might need to get your head checked.
Hope everything works out.
