Gun control debate (merged)

Kind of like mental health screening?

You still miss the most obvious point that you need to STOP BLAMING THE SWORD FOR THE HAND THAT WIELDS IT!

Why do you persist in blaming the firearms when THE POLICE KNEW IN ADVANCE THIS PERSON WASN'T RIGHT?

Is this the guns fault? Or was it a complete and utter break down in the system that should have identified. No strike that, THEY DID IDENTIFY HIM IN ADVANCE, and nothing was done. Yet you persist in your moronic argument that without guns none of this would have happened. He stabbed three people to death! STABBED them. And ran over others with his vehicle. Yet you persist in focusing on one part of this entire thing.

Give it a rest, you've lost this argument and your bias is getting boring.

The police can't just lock up someone based on a request for a wellness check. If a report someone is concerned is enough, you better a) build 10,000 more hospitals and b) get ready for all the calls that can either get someone locked up or retaliate and c) you'll just make truly concerned people that much more reluctant to express a worry.

And even if by some string of thousands of miracles you could prevent a fair number of these, you wouldn't dent criminal acts, accidents, and arguments that get out of hand.

My bias is well known. Too many people have too many guns. It's out of control.

Actually, if you have followed his posts on this, he is not advocating making them illegal. He is advocating requiring gun owners to have liability policies that kick in no matter what the issue. Liability = $$$$$$$$$ for hack lawyers.

I wouldn't be involved in those cases. But I do recognize that purchasing required insurance might slow things down in the gun economy. Too bad.

You know I'm about the most pro cop person on this board. But I also know they flubbed this situation up huge. So I hope you understand the gravity of what I'm saying here.

His parents expressed concern over his YouTube videos and called his MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDER who in turn called the police. And somehow nobody thought to look at the videos he was putting online? Are people that really that incompetent or lazy?

This entire event was preventable. And gun control had NOTHING to do with how it could have been prevented. And I find it very sad you can't look past your own prejudices and notions to see the big picture here.

 why keep feeding the troll? Liberals tell you they are right & there's no discussion to be had & for the conservatives to sit down & shut up.

I dunno...I'm pretty Pro-Cop since I work with KPD on a daily basis, but I agree with you. I call a Spade a spade.

Force insurance on a right?

Who is going to pay for cop gun insurance?

I can't believe I'm about to do this...

Health insurance is apparently a right and its being forced on us.

Oh really?

So, you know the law in California for involuntary examination and commitment and you've read the statements concerning the interview with him and you've consulted with a forensic psychiatrist and determined he met the legal criteria?

...... Didn't think so.

At least I admit it when my information is incomplete.

It really doesn't matter what laws are passed regarding guns or a number of issues until the liberal left stop making excuses and finding reasons why people did something bad. Never blame the individual, blame it on his parents, bullies at school, friends, or the actual "tool" he chose to use, i.e. the gun.

Ban guns and still people will kill with guns. IN FACT the black market for banned weapons will flourish. I bet the Mexican cartels smell a new business opportunity.

Flow of supplies: US Gov't confiscates guns from US citizens... US Gov't quickly and furiously supplies confiscated guns to cartels. Cartels sell guns to US black market. Those guns are confiscated by US Govt...

Rinse and repeat...

Today's Orlando Sentinel page features the following stories:

1) Former soldier with PTSD shot and killed three people in Lakeland over the weekend. A 14 year old girl, away for the holiday, came home to find one of them, her mother shot to death.

2) A stepfather lost his temper and shot his step son in the chest over the weekend. Luckily, the injuries are minor.

3) Brothers in Miami were arguing over clothes. One shot and killed the other, then himself.

Now, if all the stars aligned in a perfect world maybe you could stop the first one. Maybe, but not probably. And in no even could you stop the other two. That's just people losing their tempers and grabbing a gun and immediately regretting their actions.

How you gun advocates just keep pretending like that is not a real consequence of your slavish adherence to gun rights is beyond all reason.

Nothing we can do about it. Gun ownership is here to stay and people are unfortunately going to die.

There should be a hold/red flag placed on anyone diagnosed with certain mental health diagnoses.

It's Florida.

Obviously this is a no brainer but until the NRA allows our elected officials to change it, nothing is going to happen. I'll say this, guns are not the problem but the NRA only cares about one thing $$$

They care about protecting the second amendment. If it wasn't for the NRA, that right would likely already be severely watered down or gone altogether.

 Still, it's the PERSON & NOT the gun you dummy. The gun will sit there in a drawer until it's picked up by a PERSON to be used for good or for evil. Do you NOT understand w/the little pea sized brain you have that it's the PERSON & NOT the GUN??
