A day of Decommits

Turman is the latest, Tyndall was on 104.5 the zone in Nashville, and the guys on there were saying that apparently that he is the next to go.

Down to Cofer now only recruit left. Five scholarships to give Tyndall gets to recruit starting tomorrow.

This roster was screwed whether these guys stuck with the program or not.

There were more reasons to people wanting Martin fired than his lack of coaching acumen or underwhelming abilities in the pres conference.

I was thinking the same thing but it's not entirely because of race. Some kids want a coach that they "feel" like they can relate and look up to and respect.

I heard that was the problem with Dooley. He came from a rich background, went to Ivy school, etc... He didn't have to struggle at all. You'll get some recruits who did have to struggle and that's where the seperation begins.

But you'll have young coaches (Kiffin) that get their personalities. Or you'll have the ones that have that "swagger to them" Coach Jones and even Pearl.

Coach Tyndall? I'm not sure. He seems to laid back and tries to be funny a lot. I watched the Behind The Scenes video, and I was just waiting for a player to roll their eyes. He comes off a bit cheesy just talking to him.

I think we'll get players that won't emphasis so much on our coaches personality or character. They just want to play basketball.

I wouldn't classify Virginia as an Ivy league school but I get your point.

the nit is out of the question for a few years.

Nah TP. CDT's first team at So Miss was the youngest in the country 2 years ago, and that's exactly what he did....27 wins and an NIT berth. Have a little faith buddy, that's all we got right now.

The lost meaning of the old saying, "Don't swap horses in mid-stream" is that you really can't. You have to go back to where you started, change horses, and start over fording the stream.

Too many fans think a program can just swap coaches and pick up where it left off. It don't work that way. Unless your program is at rock bottom, you always lose... you lose players, recruits (several years' worth--because the assistants you no longer have had been building relationships with them & their parents for years!), and good PR.

Remember, every news story about Tennessee basketball from now 'til next March will contain different ways of questioning the new coach.

Tomorrow: Can he find new players? Can he recruit to a school with this recent baggage? How many JUCOs can he sign without creating more problems down the road?

When practice starts, the questions will be about whether his players respond to him, trust him, like the system. How about season ticket sales? When the season finally starts, every loss will provoke new questions. Enough talent? Correct strategy for the players he has? Courtside savvy? Tactical errors?

We didn't change horses in mid-stream. We backtracked 1-3 years in order to start over. That's just the way it works.

Better to hit the reset button than keep Martin's scraps.

Pearl was a genius at this strategy, although he did it with his own scraps if you will.

He would actually cut players NBA style and go JUCO and transfers to fill out the roster. Easy as pie in this day and age.

Two blue chip guys, a strong transfer or two, a big JUCO, and some good role players fill out a roster nicely.

This is prolly one of the worst days i think ive seen a program have, except when michael jordan retired from the bulls.
