A day of Decommits

Buzz, is that you?

Naw. Just another New Orleans/Chattanooga guy (who really enjoyed a recent Saturday walking around in Ringgold--very nice people).

But your screen name hints that we probably have someOne very important in common.

The Okoroh defection was expected because the commitment was so close to the coach's announcement; but prospects typically commit to a program/school, not a specific coach, although they do develop strong relationships with those coaches... so losing an entire class like this is rather unusual.

The immediate problem isn't whether or not Tyndall is a good recruiter, but that there isn't much left to recruit for the 2014 class; and the very, very few that are left already have established relationships with other coaching staffs.

There are only 2 unsigned players left in the Top 50, 3 in the Top 100, and 7 in the Top 150.

At this point, Tyndall can't really be looking to upgrade; he's just looking to fill out the roster. But that works both ways, too; most schools have already signed their limit. So maybe a couple of those guys come back to the fold once they see that the other schools they're considering are filled up.

Most kids commit to a coach not a school. This is not surprising.

No they don't; it's the exact opposite. When coaches leave they usually stay with the school.

You see interviews every year with kids whose team they committed to has lost their head coach, and 95% of the time they stay and are quoted, "I committed to the University of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _, not a coach.".

Only a very few actually bail, and if they do it's because the new coach's philosophy doesn't fit their game, or the new hire doesn't inspire confidence... they don't buy what the new guy is selling.
