BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

no UT fan has ever seen their team play in the final 4 much less for the NC. Sure it's what we all want but setting that as an expectation is unrealistic at this point

what was our last real championship in basketball? Heck, any men's sport

Basketball, 2008 SEC Champions.

1979 SEC Tournament Champions. In Basketball

1998 SEC and National Champions in football

It has been a long dry spell for the Big Orange

If and if Rhett is legit. 10/8 for a 5-25 Tennessee State team is a different monster than getting 10/8 nightly at this level.

It pretty much rides on Jarnell at this point. He said playing with Jarnell is about the only way he's coming.

1. Quite a few big time schools chasing him for him to not be legit.

2. That's not what he said, or really even close.

if in fact is was "every single season" which it isn't. CCM is 1 of 3 NCAAT at UT and 1 of 6 lifetime. Maybe the Vols get a return trip to the NCAAT with CCM and Stokes next year (cplcd with the J Rich we saw in the NCAAT).

he has underachieved 1 out of 3 years at UT.

This is unbelievable... So, fans being passionate about their team and voicing displeasure when it underperformed didn't run off the coach???

regular season. Are we really acting like UT is a force in bball and it should be final 4 or gtfo? People need a bit of perspective

The Vols finished 31–5, winning the SEC regular season championship in 2008 , for the first time since 2000.*

Very few teams go 31-5.

and still had very similar results in the SECT/NCAAT to this year

Yes, regular season, what the SEC recognizes as the league champion that year. The tournament is entirely separate.

There were still SEC champions each year in the 25 year void where there was no tournament.

And yes, the goal for every program should be the final four. Why even field a team if not. Florida has shown how quickly you can become a national power and Bruce was well on the way here.

of course it should be a goal but not an expectation.

Besides Kentucky and maybe Duke, I doubt it's the expectation of any program but I'm sure it's the goal of all.

then why are people crapping all over a great tourney run this season that was one call away from our best finish in history? I know what my theory is

Lost in this entire thing is the Ben Howland, everyones favorite coach, had another team take a pass on him. Like I said gentlemen, something is up with that guy. When a team takes an assistant coach with 0 games on his resume over a coach with 3 final 4's...there is more to the story.

"Wojo" was interviewed yesterday afternoon.

Martin withdrew his name from consideration thereafter.

How would Martin look if he hadn't withdrawn his name and "Wojo" got hired this morning?

We do know that Wojo interviewed yesterday and it seems CM withdrew his name last night.

I just think it was Wojo all along. Marquette hires nothing but assistants almost. The couple that weren't assistants ended up burning them.

Ok, so assuming we do know (I will take your word for it) that Wojo did interview last night, we still don't have any evidence of when CCM withdrew his candidacy. We know when the report leaked, but I do think it ever substantiated when specifically that he withdrew.

Even then we can't be sure of things like it being Martin's if he wanted it, but they were interviewing Wojo the same day in case he declined.

And got smashed by 19 in the Sweet 16 by a lower seed. 19 didn't even reflect the beatdown Pearl coached.

The smart thing to do in this case is say, "I really have no idea what happened. Martin could have turned down the job, or Marquette could have offered WoJo the job."

The negavol response is "See, they didn't even want him! He is terrible!"

I'd say it's because they are worried about the future of the program, at least those very few that are actually ripping on the run.

To me, we beat who was in front of us until we ran into a better team. That's all you can do. We're we fortunate with the draw, yes, I'd say so. But so were others. We couldn't help that either.

Does it make me think we're going to be great in the future. Not really, we've closed on 3 straight seasons with a strong last 10 games and still had to soul search the next season.

Get some 2015 studs on the recruiting trail and I'll feel a lot better. Right now we look to be doing very poorly there.

Wtf? I mean obviously Clay has no idea what's going on, but can anyone elaborate on this?

Reports from http://Volquest.com that Cuonzo turned down Marquette despite no raise or extension offer from Vols. What's going on?

Correct. I am just speculating and I prefaced that I am speculating. The difference is that I am using evidence to support my speculation instead of blabbering nonsense.

I honestly think and extension and a raise will make 2015 recruiting much easier now. With the drama that has gone down the last 3 weeks, I don't blame any 2015 recruit for not committing to a coach that didn't seem to have the commitment of school.

or the joy of saying "I told you so" was ruined

same was said about guys like JRich and that didn't turn out too bad. We also have a 5* on the roster who didn't get to play much. Return Stokes and it's a whole different ballgame

Hubbs apparently may have said we've not extended him. Second hand, not checked for sure if Hubbs said it yet.

No clue what's going on.

This is exactly what I speculated on earlier. I thought it was very telling that Wojo was the best they could do.

Buzz left for Virginia Freakin' Tech. There is obviously something toxic going on there that nobody wants to be a part of.

I just think it's kind of silly to speculate on something when no one outside of Marquette, Hart, and Martin know exactly what happened. The story is the Martin withdrew his name. I think you have to go with that.
