Vols predicted LAST in SEC for 2018

Totally realistic to predict we are an inferior team next year to Arkansas State and Louisiana Tech. There's also a reasonable probability the writer is a moron.

What’s unrealistic is predicting Tennessee will finish LAST in the SEC TWO years in a row, not going to happen. You will never see UT last in the SEC again in your lifetime.

Taking players who have that chip on their shoulders at 17 years old and coaching them to play as 5 stars in their Jr and sr years might actually be a preferred approach. It would seem character, talent, free from injuries, and heart might be more important than high school star count. Stars may be getting in some players eyes. Go Vols! Coach em up Jeremy!

Vols are ranked #79 in the country??? Right behind Troy!!! What moron wrote that. Probably some Gator fan.

UT has a fluke away from losing to GT, and UMass choked, otherwise you are looking at 2-10 on the year. Do you expect them in the top 25? The team was fractured last year, if he can pull them all the same direction he can pull out a 7-5 mark. Need 2 good recruiting classes to contend again, need to pull an upset or two the first year to get people to buy in.

Not really, he is taking out personal opinion, and trying to take an unbiased outlook based on a formula to predict performance. However, there are so many variables that throw off conquering the world with mathematics. But he makes it now so it can be compared to what we see this time next year. Beats listening to talking heads all year long.

And our 18-5, 2nd place, top 15 nationally Basketball team was predicted to finish 13th out of 14 sec teams a few months ago.

Not a chance in hell we finish last in the SEC this year....not a chance in hell. As a matter of fact, I predict we’ll scare some of the better SEC teams on our schedule this year and will be playing very good football by the end of the year. 2018 will be the last year any fools like SBNation or anybody else will dare make a stupid prediction about Tennessee again for a very, very long time.

2018 can be a better team than many of us seem to think. There is a good chance that Helton and JG will get the offence going, but there are real concerns about it sputtering. Defence? Defence will develop into a team to be reckoned with. Cannot predict how soon or how well in the first year, but I do think there are enough good players for the coaches to leave the weak sister act in the past. Tennessee will not be the SEC skunk in 2018. We will win enough games to get to middle conference status and maybe better. We'll see the team come together. jmho

about right until the first games are played OOC and IC.

Nothing to judge them on expect rosters. Nothing based on Coaching Defensive or Offensive Schemes.

No way to gauge so it is a safe bet.

This a formula ranking and not someone actually looking at the teams and ranking them. We will be at least 7-5.

Yep and finishing in the top 5 and 10 helped UT beat everyone last year.

Good point - we've seen where good coaching/game management is the most important thing. Hopefully Pruitt and staff will deliver on that - if so, the recruiting success will follow

Amazing ain’t it - I can’t believe how many people expect a coach that has never coached a game as a head coach to turn us into a power in one year. If he’s really good (tbd) we might be back to contending for the east in 3-4 years, going to need better recruiting than this years results

Are all 60 of your posts this depressing?

Depends on your point of view, I guess. I prefer to think of it as realistic - most of the sentiment on here is "the coach can do no wrong, he is the greatest we could have possibly gotten," no matter the coach. Until he loses 4-5 games a year, then it switches to "the coach can do no right". I tend to be in the middle - he looks like a good choice, but with no HC experience it will be hard to tell until we see the product on the field. And considering what he was left, it may take a few years with some solid results and recruiting to get where we want to be.

You mean like all those times they predicted us at or neAr the top of the East?

He only had 2 months...

Why even reference his recruiting?

Because the class counts whether we like it or not regardless of circumstances.

This Year Zero crap should have gone out the door with Dooley but the mentality still exists among the fan base.

On paper, 7 other SEC teams got better players than the Vols this week.

It's on Pruitt to make up ground on the rest of the league and improve those results next year. As of right now, this team and staff hasn't proven a thing. So if a blogger on SB Nation wants to slam the program, so be it.

Hope Pruitt and the team goes out and proves them wrong.

In sports, having a chip on your shoulder can be a good thing. Very motivating!

The team’s problem is attitude and coaching. Plenty of talent to win 7 games next year if those two are fixed. The football team could learn a thing or two from the B-ball team.

Yet you HOPE Pruitt will prove them wrong??

Are you going to give him the time to prove it??

Because obviously 2 months is plenty of time

0-8 in the SEC last year.

One of our 2 QBs is now transferring. Our RB left early.

No real immediate help with the 2018 recruit class.

Something like 8 OL on scholarship. And they stunk last year.

Last in the SEC sounds about right for 2018.
