Say it aint so! Please!

The fact that Butch has more talent than Dooley ever dreamed of yet has the same record simply blew my mind. I believe / believed in Butch and this fact just hurts, that all.

So Butch has more proven talent than doodles some one should check how many of DDs players that was left to him are in the NFL 4 linemen one is retired now due to injuries "knees" and thats a huge problem for this team. He had a QB that is in the NFL two receivers that are in the NFL so doodles had no talent Right Right...

I'll just leave this here

According to Rivals:

Dooley's recruiting class ranking each year

9
13
17
Average: 13

Butch's class' ranking

21
5
16 - currently
Average: 14 (if current class ranking holds)

My point being that in reality, so far at least, the only real difference between the two is that unlike Dooley, Butch has been a great ambassador for the program and cares about the university and these players. Dooley cared only about himself.

Don't consider this a reflection of Dooley recruiting. He actually had a class with NO O LINEMEN

I have always liked Dooley and still do but don't want him back. As long as Butch is recruiting at this level he needs to stay - even though I think Jim Chaney is far better offensive coach. Defense on the other hand? Let's not bring that up. :cray:

You have to be kidding with the recruiting O-Line, right. I mean he didn't have a single one his last class.:whistling:

Dooley's O-line is in the NFL and that speaks for itself. He stopped recruiting not only offensive line but pretty much every position his last year since he was desperately trying to win enough games to not get fired (even started going to defensive team meetings which for him being offensive specialist was the ultimate desperation move). I think his rationale was that with that good offense he was going to have a good year which would get him off the hot seat and then he could quickly turn to recruiting and salvage the recruiting year (which was not irrational approach given this is Tennessee and when coaches have momentum at place like this players are happy to come).

The difference: Dooley had talent to start and did not recruit it up (no linemen in 2012 and competing against ECU and Ball State for 2 stars). Butch had little talent and has had stellar recruiting classes to rebuild Dooleys dumpster fire..

enough bs comparisons: Dooley was a narcissistic jerk who took the program and made it worse. He alienated high school coaches, former players and fans. He was a terrible recruiter. But hey, he knew shower etiquette and WWII metaphors. Mr. Orange pant's players were happy he left.

We lose one close game in double OT to a ranked perennial powerhouse and some of you are out with knives. Pathetic

It's not one game. You are forgetting the UF game last year? That was another pathetic and cowardly coaching performance by CBJ that ended up in horrible loss against the coach who was so bad that he ended up getting fired.

This was actually a good thread to bring some level headedness (is that a word) back to the forum. Great use if reverse psychology OP.

You still failed to address the issue of what Dooley left for the next coach. Those 27 games you're counting include many played with what was left over from the Dooley experiment

Come on, tell us what you were truly thinking when you started this thread!

Tough crowd even for an entertainer. I think the op was just making a stark observation. I don't think he was analyzing anything; or comparing anything other than the records thru 27 games. It was something I hadn't noticed, so therefore informative to me. Food for thought; as it were. Wow yall are something sometimes.

LOLOLOL.... He asked Hart for his buyout after the UK loss. Hart refused. He knew he was done and coasted through for his 5 mil.

The man didn't just neglect recruiting. He burnt bridges. You can't possibly defend him.

Or the fact that he came into a dire situation that Mr. Dooley created, thus also inheriting his record in a round about way.

Digging yourself out of a hole you did not create is difficult at best, and if not given the correct amount of time, impossible.

Now, Now if Butch was a good coach we'd already have a national championship. FAHR Butch!!! LOL
BTW you're spot on.

You will not acknowledge improvement in talent and depth. What is your end game? You want Butch fired to what end? Cowardly and pathetic are strong adjectives. Who would you get to replace him before you turn on them? I am sure Saban and Meyer are waiting by the phone so they can come here snd have you call them out as well. That "bad" coach was our first choice when we ended up with Dooley and that same bad Florida team beat the living hell out of Georgia.

Dooley, Chaney, and Wilcox beat Oklahoma with this team.

If they could count to 11. They did such a great job at Kentucky with Tyler Bray, Justin Hunter, Darrick Rogers and a future NFL line against a team playing single wing T with a wide receiver playing quarterback

I don't want Butch fired as long as he keeps recruiting like he has so far. However, just because I don't want him fired does not mean I can't be upset about his game plan and call it what it was - cowardly and pathetic. And by the way, most everyone who saw the game agrees (even people who have never criticized him in the past are all over him after this game).
And yes, he does need to hear this criticism from as many people as possible so maybe he will give it some thought and change the approach (although I don't have any illusions he necessarily reads this forum).

As long as we are showing improvement it doesnt matter. You know, still losing big games just by less points. Progress and moral victories are the most important things.
