Recruiting Football Talk VII

I think its interesting. Looks like majority of folks on here think their music sucks, or dont enjoy it.

There, I said it. The Beatles music sucks.😬
I don't take it too extreme, I just don't enjoy it and reallyyyyyy get annoyed when the apologists act like they were transcendent mucisians.

They were the Taylor swift of their day. Average mucisians (except Paul, he was really good but nowhere near where his fans say he is), really good song writers (for their time, most of their lyrics are super annoying to me), extremely well-marketed.

In 50 years some swifties will be making a docuseries on how she had such an advanced understanding of music that she revolutionized it more so than Mozart and Bach and Zeppelin and Clapton and anyone else. And if I'm still alive, I'll be just as annoyed then as I am now when people say that about the Beatles.

Most popular does not equal most talented.

Screw Dan Mullen and screw UF, BUT...

This is a terrible take and I bet this dude is on Napier's payroll doing damage control.

Mullen had probably the greatest run of draft picks in Mississippi State history and Mullen had a ton of guys drafted out of his Florida classes.

This douche is cherry-picking one draft where... most of Mullen's recruits are either already in the league or transferred from Florida. Yeah, Mullen isn't having a bunch of his UF recruits drafted because... well... his last class was 3 years ago. The best recruits from those classes are gone. Every left from those classes are lower-rated or less-talented 4-5 year depth guys.

This still comes down to Napier, who hasn't replaced the talent with talent. It's not Mullen's fault they're total buttcheeks today, it's Napier's. If Mullen were still at UF they'd have had 4-6 draft picks this weekend.
I was going yo say, didn't most of his players transfer out?

I disagree. His last class 2021 was #12 High School and #9 Portal. He had a 5* and 8 4* in the high school class. The 2020 class was #7 HS and #3 Portal. 1 5* (drafted) and 15 4* including guys like Richardson and portaled Brenton Cox and Justin Shorter.

He may not be one of the best recruiters but he's always been good at evaluating and developing talent. And he's not a BAD recruiter.

Florida wasn't happy with #8-#10 ranked classes and slipping away from Kirby and Georgia despite being in purgatory since Urban left. For their greed they've been punished with Napier and it befits them.

I'm happy they fired him. If Mullen was still at UF we'd be in a worse spot in recruiting and the pecking order. It would be harder for us to get over the hump. Now, I don't see us losing to UF while Nico is here.
We can just disagree. 8 four stars in a class at UF really isn’t that great. One of them was a Juco guy from Mississippi, which he benefited from at MSU. The state of Mississippi actually has good talent. His class was ranked 14th in 2018. People here wouldn’t like that at UT.

In his final depth chart in 2021, UF had 3 OL that were high school 3 stars and another that was a transfer from Texas. 2 WR’s were a 3 star and a transfer. Defense had better talent.

When Mullen’s name was brought up for our job in 2017, I was ok with it because he is great at development. But I was concerned with his recruiting, as UT is a tougher place to recruit than UF. He just has a goofy personality.

I think AR flopping (as we all knew he would) hurt Joe a bit this year.

Most the NFL folks are pretty behind in their thinking. If someone reaches on a certain player time and it fails it takes another year or two before another team will do it again.
AR didn’t flop. He actually played better than most people expected given the fact that he was a rookie with only one year of college experience starting in the NFL from Day 1. He got injured. He didn’t flop.

With all of his physical gifts, I’ve never viewed his running/blocking translating to learning a new position at a higher level and being superior to TE’s who’ve spent their careers fine tuning their skills.
He's not more physically gifted than any of the other TE's in the NFL. And even if he was, you're right, that's not some golden ticket to being a super productive player. See Darnell Washington and Kyle Pitts.

His only freakish ability is his freakish arm strength.

Hail Mary specialist?
He needs to be a more physical runner to make it work in rhe league though with his other limitations.
Lol. I know a lot of fans love to hate on arm strength. And I mean I get it. Manning and Brady were the best QBs in the league for a 10 year span. But look who the best QBs in the league are now. Not a coincidence they just so happen to be the guys with the best arms. Levis got a ton of hate for getting picked based off his arm talent and not his production, but his best moments last year were on the back of making throws that most NFL QBs can't make.

I've had offers to go back. If I wasn't married I would be in Idaho, Eastern Washington, Montana or New Zealand. My wife, unfortunately, listens to the siren-song of Alabama.

Her parents are old though. She's been open to the idea of doing something when they're gone.

I'm the same boat, Montana and Idaho are calling.

Baseball people: what is it that Elander/Vitello doing that has made us so good at hitting and hitting homers? Is it the coaching? Is it just letting the guys play loose and swing? Or have we just stacked the roster with natural-born excellent hitters?
It's a mixture of everything really. Great coaching and great recruiting.
