I believe if they live on the island they can't vote except for primaries.

But the federal income tax is a moot point. The average family income in PR is $18,000....

I think they only vote in their provincial and local elections.

I can't think of a single reason why we would want to add them. We have way too many people on the government tit why add more?

For those who don't want the added burden i believe they are eligible for federal assistance already so I'm not sure what would be different other than the right to vote.

Territories and people who have done so much for us, and we just treat them like expendable parts.

And the posters on here who think it a bad idea because it might (emphasize might) cost them an additional 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 percent of their income. Maybe. Not even a given.

Shameful.

It's time something is done about this. Statehood or not, but at least figure out a new voting/representation system. At the very least.

We have capped their Medicaid dollars at a little over 200 million dollars. If they were a state they would recieve well over a billion dollars.

What exactly has PR done for us?

Volunteer inordinately per capita to defend your freedom in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. Or so neocons describe it.

But, seriously, defend you in WWI, WWII, and Korea (well, that's not really defense in Korea, but still).

Let me ask you this. If the population of Puerto Rico would overwhelmingly vote raging conservative, would you be more inclined to bring them into the fold?

Actually, don't even answer that. I already know the answer.

You're an absolute disgrace to the flag and to the servicemen of Puerto Rico.

We have 16 territories. Most, if not all, have their citizens in our military. Should we have 16 more states?
