Goodell Upholds 4 Game Suspension For Brady

Maybe if Tom had come out months before and said something like "I like the footballs inflated to the lower limit. I didn't realize that the balls were under the regulation pressure", then we could have avoided all of this. He would have gotten a fine and most people would have forgiven him.

Or if Mortensen hadn't put out false information that formed the narrative? The majority of people still likely believe 11 of the 12 balls were under 2 lbs.

Roger Goodell is the most incompetent commish in sports history. What a ****ing idiot

This may be his undoing. He's botched too many things the last couple of years and as more details about Deflategate emerge, the more his incompetence is exposed.

Yeah a lot of people felt that way 7 or 8 years ago when Goodell destroyed the Patriots illegal videotapes and let Bellicheat off the hook completely.

So it apparently wasn't a very good day for the NFL. Even had to admit to Judge Berman that there isn't any direct evidence against Tom Brady. The entire case is down to he refused to turn over his phone. Failure to cooperate is nothing more than a fine.

So basically they punished him because he refused to jump when they said so.

What about the inconsistent stories on why his phone was destroyed?

Brady initially testified he destroys his phone every 8 months:
Tom Brady claims he smashes his cell phone every 8 months or so - CBSSports.com

"Brady testified that it is his practice to destroy (or give to his assistant to destroy) his cellphone and SIM cards when he gets a new cellphone."

Now he destroyed based on the advice of his agent:

Deflategate hearing begins with judge Richard M. Berman yet to decide on Tom Brady settlement case

Kessler claimed that the quarterback got rid of the phone on the advice of his agent to protect his privacy but had otherwise cooperated with the inquiry. However, in hindsight, "You're right, it could have been done a different way,'' the lawyer said of the phone.

Judge Richard M. Berman in Manhattan repeatedly asked NFL lawyer Daniel L. Nash for "direct evidence that implicates Mr. Brady" as he gave both sides a chance to state their case in the first hearing before him.

Berman called it "ironic" that Brady's statistics were better in the second half of the Patriots' 45-7 defeat of the Indianapolis Colts in the Jan. 18 AFC Championship Game than in the first half, when the balls were found to have been underinflated.

"Turns out, Mr. Brady did better with higher inflated balls than underinflated balls," the judge said. "You might say he got no competitive advantage."

So let's see, the judge asked for evidence that Brady had any direct involvement, there was none presented. So Brady's stats were BETTER in the second half with the properly inflated balls? The NFL just continues to look like utterly foolish in this ridiculous witch hunt.

I'm a crazy conspiracy guy, and I know no one wants to bring politics into this.........................but, is it possible that this punishment is being done at the behest of someone in the Whitehouse since Brady skipped on visiting after winning the Superbowl? We've witnessed all sorts of vendettas carried out by different people in this administration. Their is clearly a motive here from the NFL to embarrass Brady with what happened in providing false info to ESPN and then not attempting to correct it. That is beyond odd.

Calm down Dave.

Based on what is being reported, none of that really matters.

Destroying his phone does not necessarily destroy the text messages. The phone company will still likely have records of those. If Brady opts to go to federal court, the NFL will then be able to subpoena those messages. That is a big risk not only for Brady but Bellicheat and the Patriot franchise. Kraft better sit on his boy...

that's not true....phone companies do not store text messages.....they are gone.

Well it was apparently another very, very bad day for the NFL in court. Seems like Judge Berman is seeing through all the bs.

Goodell just keeps looking like a bigger idiot the longer this goes on.

It has actually gotten to the point that I don't give a damn if the suspension is upheld or not. Just seeing the NFL being exposed like this is a beautiful thing.

The commissioner has every right to do whatever he wants when it comes to player discipline. The NFLPA allowed him to be judge, jury, and executioner when they accepted the CBA.

Still doesn't make him look any less idiotic. If this suspension is upheld, then it will set a very poor precedent in the NFL.

If the suspension is overturned, then there will be a new precedent set. Future players who get in trouble and have their suspensions upheld after appealing will turn to the courts and lawyer up.

Edit: I'm not saying that it makes him look less idiotic.
