No, but good try. Integrity matters to me.

It was just a bad night for the Vols. We would have won 8 out of 10, IMO. Of course, that doesn't matter. Hats off to the '01 champs who moved their program into the elites with that one.

And what happened to Tennessee after that one?

The crossed paths is why '01 hurts the most. We went where they were and they took where we were going. That game was a turning point. That's also what made '07 tough as we could have returned the favor... and almost did.

The only good thing that came from our losing to LSU this past season was that it gave the country another chance to see how horrible OSU really is when put up against real competition.

Do you really think they didn't also notice that UT played LSU much better than did OSU?

More people outside Knoxville saw the LSU championship game than those who watched our game with Cal, UF, or Alabama.

Playing in the champsionship game for the premier league in college football is better than the alternative.

And, one thing that everyone who voted for the national champion or bothered to discuss and research knew , is that we beat the crap out of UGA.

It was a season filled with inconistency, but it's not fair to ignore the high points and see only the low ones, or vice versa.

Why else would we have finished ranked 12th in the nation?

Go Fulmer!!!! haha just playing. I'm sorta neutral in the whole Fulmer situation. Although I believe it is time for him to go, I'm not going to kick him out the door.

It's a good thing because he is not going anywhere for at least 3 years. He has to reach 174 wins to beat General Neylands record and he is at 147. Then when he gets that he will probably want to try and get 200 wins. Well, that adds another 2 to 3 years. So, my guess is he is there for another 6 at least. That is assuming there are no more 5-6 seasons and then he would be there much longer. Just something for the Fulmer haters to think about.

don't say that, we are winning it this year

How can we win it this year? Georgia is going to win it. They are going to win the national championship! They are going to be preseason #1 because they are returning 15 starters and finished last year strong. Yeah, Georgia is back to the Herschel days with Knowshen Moreno!

Well, the last time I checked, UT thumped Georgia in 2007, went to the SEC championship game, could have beat LSU, won their bowl game and are returning around the same number of starters. Probably going to be preseason #20 if lucky. (I don't get this????)

Sorry for the rant, but I hate Georgia! Yes, I also think we can win it this year! Or at least win the East and go to the championship game and lose. That seems to be the norm.......

having to depend on missed field goals to beat the likes of Vandy and Kentucky constitutes low points in my book.

Fulmer was closer to being fired last year than he ever has been. 2-3 blowout losses and he's right back in the hot seat. He won't last 6 years unless he wins the SEC asap.

While they are not elite programs last years Kentucky and Vandy teams are not the same teams from 5 years ago. Their improvement is another reason why the sec is the best conference in the land. That being said if we want to get back to elite status we need to beat the teams we should handily, by two touchdowns on the average.

a low point for UGA, only surpassed on the humiliation scale by their getting trounced by a mediocre UTK.

We were a little better than mediocre in the grand scheme of things. If we are the dominant conference and we finish where we did you could not call it mediocre. We get outcoached quite a bit, and that is the biggest problem I have seen. We are not the elite program we once where but mediocre is short changing us and the sec.

Yeah, Kentucky's awful. They've only beaten GA, Clemson, Louisville, LSU (eventual National Champs) and Florida State the past 2 seasons. Beating them by a field goal is embarassing :jpshakehead:

He definitely needs to win one I agree. Going 3 times since 98 and losing just isn't good enough for Tennessee Football.

Good point. Kentucky will probably be down a little again this year, but the past couple of years they have really improved. They gave us and several other schools all they wanted.

UK will be awful next year. They'll finish around 5-7

I think if he even has a decent year (9 wins) this year with no SEC champ then he is not on the hotseat. As long as we don't have blowout losses to our rivals. He'll have the old, "we're installing a new offense" to fall back on. BUT, going into next year with the "10 years since SEC title AND 10 years since BCS bowl hanging over his head, he has to win SOMETHING or will be on the hotseat again. SEC title in the next two years signs his ticket to be hear at least 4-6 more years.

The Vols under Phil underachieve. Plain and simple. If I had the opportunity to choose a coach for one game, Phil would be waaay down the list. He is just a mediocre game coach who happens to be a great recruiter (at least before this year). Reading this thread, I had forgot Bama had won a title since the Vols won it. How embarrassing is that?

I posted this a few times within threads but it keeps coming up.

I can't imagine how many times I've read that it's been 10 years since Fulmer won an SEC Championship. That's referring to the 1998 season. But, since the Vols have only played 9 seasons, it would be fair if you critics would stick to the facts.

There's no need to give up on the 2008 Vols before the season ever starts. And, if for some reason, we don't win the SEC this season, are you going to say it's been 11 years next year... and just keep being wrong until we win it again?

Please kindly adhere to the facts. Just to help with the math, here's how to count them.

1) 2007 (that's the last season played)
2) 2006
3) 2005
4) 2004
5) 2003
6) 2002
7) 2001
8) 2000
9) 1999 (this was the 1st season after the Vols won the national championship)

Fire away... 3 embarassing loses in 2007; can't forget 2005; and so on.

The 2008 team is about to reset the clock, so remember to tell your grandkids, there were only 9 years between championships and not 10... and it was not 41 years.. that was basketball.

Get ready to update this photo in 2008! Go Vols!

I don't care how you spin it, but it still doesn't justify the fact that we have 0 Sec Championships this decade.

I said before last season I would give him 2 years to win a Sec Championship. He has one more year left.
