I’m shocked and super sad to read that Karoline is leaving. Wherever she lands is going to be fortunate to have such a high quality human being on their team. One of the best.

😢

Never fun to see a kid leave. Will cheer for her wherever she goes! Hope she has a great last year. Karo is a super person and was always a great teammate. It was likely we’d have some movement out, but it’s never any easier.

Well said. I wish Karo well. She is still a LVFL.
A few fanatics are spinning this by the tiniest of threads imaginable, truth is this is likely not the first and last transfer out from the current roster due to fit.

Once the staff was finalized there’s been an incredible buzz around UT and recruiting interest from elite high school prospects and college transfers.

I have not seen this level of engagement from around the country between parents, student athletes, and coaches in the SEC in awhile. I’m thinking UT could end the portal signing period with the largest class of 5-6 new additions.

Again, I have not seen this level of excitement in awhile. Kentucky hired one of their assistants and it kind of was mentioned briefly then faded into the background . Meanwhile, people are still buzzing about the new UT staff as they blitz the recruiting trail.

Did Karo graduate already? Unless you walk at UT I don’t think you get to be in the LVFL club. Have to sign the pole

I wonder about that also, because rising seniors that transfer probably would have a hard time earning enough credits to graduate at their new school in just 1 year.

Did Diamond Deshields graduate at UT?

I wonder if Joy McCorvey could use Karoline at Stony Brook?

Gosh, I am truly sad about this! But then, I'm one of those sentimental types who is super into recognizing the quality aspects of Lady Vols off the court maybe even stronger than on.

Which reminds me again. I've said this before but I'm gonna say it again, there was never a shred of doubt in my mind that Kellie Harper was one of THE top recruiters in the country when it came to finding and signing wonderful young women who would do the program proud. All were hard workers, excellent students and compassionate community citizens. We could always rest assured our players were never going to embarrass us as a fanship. Kellie had a good eye for finding quality people with quality family members supporting them.

In about 6 weeks the blue hairs will start arriving here on the coast of Maine. Their TN and FL license plates and courteous road manners set them apart from the much more aggressive neighbors from slightly south of here, known affectionately as Massholes. The blue hairs seem bewildered at the general lack of sweet tea offerings, and stare, with undisguised lust, at the plethora of Subaru Forresters and Outbacks driven by the locals.

They overpay for tacky apparel embroidered with Moose and lobstah
LOL Massholes is a term of affection? Does that include when Massholes use it to describe other Massholes too?

Coach Lazo is out on the recruiting trail, have to believe we are going to start getting some commitments in the next week here.

Especially with Karo heading out, makes me think we have signed a player at that position. She was likely still going to be coming off the bench and it appears we are looking for more athletic, quicker, forwards so she was likely to see her minutes reduced again next season.

It truly think Karo could be a stud somewhere like MTSU, FGCU or Belmont. One of the really good mid major programs needs to try and snap her up. Against that level of competition she is unstoppable. Had a harder time finding ways to contribute and stay on the floor against the better teams we played.

I think Diamond did graduate but I believe she may have had to finish some while she was rehabbing before playing overseas. I can’t remember. As far as I know we still have a 100% graduation rate for all players who finished their career at UT so that would include her.

I do think the LVFL tag prevents some from transferring from UT. It’s a unique club of women who have a lot of connections all over sports. Not unlike the UConn and Stanford alums. It pays long after you graduate to have finished up your career at one of those schools.

In a wicked sardonic Mainuh sorta way.
Maine was, they tell me, once part of Mass. They chose
to go their own way. Now Maine people call Mass. folk “from away”
and still welcome the tourist dollars. And, lacking enough population to
have their own teams, they root for the Pats and Sox. It's all kind of
mystifying.

It still makes more sense than Ms. Mulkey's fashion choices. 😎

Tennessee is getting active in the portal!

Stay tuned🍊!

The fanatics wanted athletes… now you got athletes! You wanted starters… now you got starters! GBO🍊!

In other news, Karoline Striplin has entered the portal.
expected,,Karoline will benefit from the transfer...love her heart but she was undersized and not built for speed,,,and from my assessment,,,,that is where Coach K is going

As a proud Masshole transplant, it's interesting how we don't recognize much solidarity with our fellow New Englanders...especially when it comes to driving. But yes, we all like seeing each other's tourist dollars (or in the case of Connecticut in the absence of any tourist destinations, their donations to the local casinos).

Perhaps a straight up trade...Karo for Aaliyah?

I don’t see her fitting in that system very well. Feel like it’s more likely she’d end up at Auburn if she stays in the SEC and goes back to Alabama. Their interior game is still questionable. Collins is returning but at 6’1” she did not have much impact in the SEC last season, doesn’t have an outside shot.

Their other two young posts didn’t play much and did not look very good or produce very well in their minutes. They averaged around 10 minutes, 2 points an 2 boards a piece so Karo would be an upgrade over either. Especially because she has an outside shot and is around an 88% FT shooter.

I still blame coaching for that…

They return Naomi Jones and Essence Carson so far who are both very serviceable in the paint. I don’t think the pace they play with would suit Strip all that well.

Cunningham has a covid year she can use but not sure if she is, she played in all games and was about the same as Karo.

So they have 2 6’4” and 1 6’5” player who can go.

Not a blue hair, don't hate KFC or CKC. Just being realistic around the risk given the limited experience that she has at the P1 SEC level. If the team tanks next year, I know that many on here who are pumping the "everything is wonderful angle" will be jumping off the bandwagon. If the team is moderately successful, makes the NCAA some of that will be tempered and will prove that yes she was ready.

The real issue for me is that the Lady Vols brand was not able to influence a more seasoned coach to want to come here. But I get it - those coaches probably understood the job could be one that ends their career given the expectations.

The key is the portal and getting the players that can compete with the best teams in D1. Looks like one good player may be coming - we'll need more.
Or too, maybe DW is not the closer he thought he was. He can sign an ‘up and comer’ with the big pay raise, but established Coaches may not need the demands, and the implied threats of termination that come with them.

Not sure on that one. Kellie did a lot of things with the roster I didn’t agree with, but Striplin never showed she could play against the better teams. Most all of her best games came against mid-major teams.

She got lots of opportunities but over her career she’s basically a 3 point 2 rebound player. That’s just not good enough to see much time in the SEC. She got 15 minutes a game in 22-23 due to TK going out and her numbers were similar to 23-24 when her minutes were reduced, just didn’t progress enough.

Puckett had a massive sophomore slump but really pulled herself out of it last season.
